halladayfan
in MLB 2005 (i have the 06 mod installed - awesome stuff!) the CPU does a couple different pick off moves. one is much faster than the other. is there a way to do this when I am pitching? I have never picked off the CPU. Can it be done? (on MVP difficulty) thanks for any help halladayfan
MasterBigsby
I can't even pick off with my game. I ahve tried every single button. I am using the 360 controller.
halladayfan
you have to hold one of the trigger buttons, and press the corresponding button for the base you want to throw it to. my problem is, i only seem to have 1 pick off move i can do. and its the slow one. the CPU does a much quicker one (and is pretty successfull picking me off with it)
uspdude
what's the point.. it's nearly impossible to pick off CPU runner. I've only done it once. for my controller, buttom 5 + direction = quick pick off and buttom 6 = slow pick off
halladayfan
thanks for the tip uspdude. i will try another trigger button...maybe thats it. so you can't pick off the CPU with the quick move either? i was asking because the cpu does it all the time...and i can't. thanks again...i will try that. edm
I've been able to pull off a quick move a few times, but not often. It seems to happen when I push both buttons simultaneously, or as close to simultaneously as possible. But I'm not really sure if that makes a difference. It could just be a random thing
maxbjr
I've never picked off a runner, but the cpu runners do seem to stay closer to the base & have more of a delay when they try stealing a base, after I've tried picking them off.
DustinTheWin
I can't figure out how to lead off first base when i want to steal
fred13
I can't figure out how to lead off first base when i want to steal if you are using a controller with analog sticks, the right analog stick will control lead-offs. If you are using keyboard i don't think you can because there is no keyboard substitute for the right analog stick. or if there is, i dont know what it is. Also, if the runners don't take big lead-offs, just adjust the cpu running aggression slider
sw3despills
It's been random for me. I've picked off a few people recently and it's been the quick move that got them (I have no idea how I did it). Picking people off makes me pretty happy because it's so rare (better feeling than a walk off home run if you can believe it)
kma15
i've picked off 3 people in all my days of playing mvp baseball. Brian Roberts twice and Jeter once. I dont know about the controller but with the keyboard there is only one type of pickoff move and it's always the fast one (at least for mine). I've noticed a lot more pickoffs after i downloaded the 06 mod. I've had 1 (Brian Roberts) in 1 year+ of MVP 2005 but then iafter i got MVP 06 i had 2 pickoffs in less than a month of playing. RobAtPace
pickoff moves... MVP 2005... that is a dream... lol. I recall perhaps once or twice in hundreds of pickoff attempts. but the mofo'ing computer always catches me sleeping or right after a foul ball/instant replay. niceonedave
I think you just have to choose the right time to go. If it is a fast runner on base then it is very rare that you will get him, but if any other runner is on base and takes a big lead (i.e. 2 steps) then I will throw my first pitch off speed and in the zone, then if he doesn't go on that pitch and also doesn't step back then I will try a quick pick-off attempt. If you throw a fast-ball then try a quick pick, they still have in their mind that the pitcher knows they are there. But by throwing an off-speed pitch the runner thinks that the pitcher is not thinking about him and makes no attempt to get back until its too late. Another note, on the other pick-off attempt (normal one, not quick), you will never catch anyone. This is just a simple throw to try and make the runner move back hence making it easier to get the double play. And by throwing it softer you are less likely to throw an error. You will also notice that on these pick-offs the baseman makes no attempt to touch the runner, whereas with quick pick he will always try, even when the runner is clearly already on base.
