mva5580
Playing online with a friend, I just have a few ?'s for people who have a lot of online experience. 1) When playing IP, is there any easier way to connect other than the way through the game? Any "portals" or such? I mean we can connect, but it just seems like a sloppy way to host or join. But that's EA Sports console ports for you I guess. 2) After we do get connected, we're able to play ok and all, but every once in a while there's some stuttering that we'd obviously like to get past if possible. It's almost like it runs smooth for a batter, then choppy, smooth, etc. Every 4 or 5 pitches it seems to change. Can anything be done about this? We're both running the MVP 06 mod, if that makes any difference. No issues with crashes or anything like that, just looking for any possibilities to make the experience a bit smoother. Thanks to anyone who can help!
big shmooz
Well... as to question 1.... unless you are going to hack the game, I don't know of any way to connect other than through the game's options. Actually I don't see what's so bad about the way the game connects anyway. As far as question 2... The stuttering problem you are describing is probably a hiccup on the part of the ISP. (such as packet loss) It does not sound like it's a "game issue".

There are great tutorials set up for many specific routers at Port Forward.com. I don't know what port MVP 2005 uses at the moment. If someone would find out, that would help me out as well. mva5580
Yeah I've actually thought of port forwarding, may have to try that soon. Also, what about this hamachi program I've read a little bit about? Sounds to me like that would be a great solution if it actually does what it says it does. Any experience with it? big shmooz
MVP uses the following ports... TCP ports 80 & 443 & UDP port 10001. As far as Hamachi, I have not used it but I have seen mixed reviews. However it would be better to find out from somebody who has already useed it for the game & see what they have to say.
mac10
Trust me if you and your friend forward your routers, you will have a much smoother game.

mva5580
Ok. My friend and I are gonna give the port forwarding a try tonight. I've got the port #'s, so is the ONLY thing I need to do is to just go into the linksys router config., and direct the router to forward those ports with my IP address? No other settings need to be adjusted? Thanks to everyone on this one, just looking for a little less lag!

From what I have seen and read Hamachi will work very well cable to cable however if you are using DSL it wont give you much of a boost.
