adamb10
I recently completed a season in MVP 05 and most homeruns from a player on my team was about 12. This brings up that I cant hit homeruns that well. Is there a secret to it or something?
Roscosuper
I don't think there's a seceret, but you need to pick a philosophy......forget about all the datafile, slider nonsense. when you're in a position where you have to drive the ball deep, relax and concentrate on just hitting the ball smoothly. Look for a pitch you can hit, early and ahead in the count. For me, I like to pull off-speed stuff and go the other way with fastballs. Driving the ball deep means, pushing up on the analog stick. You can hit a ball low in the zone when pushing up, for a home run, you just have to be a bit quicker. When you push up however, you have less of a "green zone" (contact), so with to 2 strikes against you, or if the pitcher is confusing you, you might want to lay off. Figure out when to be agressive and when to be patient, and your numbers will go up.
JoeyMcM93
i have a similar philosophy. although i ave found it is easier to pull fastbals then go push them. thats just me though. i think everyone has a different way to hit it out.
Emil
All I do is look for a pitch inside and sooner or later the pitcher will throw you a pitch inside. When it comes push the right analog stick up and to the right (if a LHB) and there's my HR
MarlinsMS_35
I personally think that you cant try to hit Hr's, they just happen. I try to just score runs, wheather its a squeeze, sac fly, or whatever. W/L mean more to me than HR's.
ixcuincle
12 home runs? That's much more than I can get...I haven't finished a season though but its' nearly impossible to hit a home run. Most of the time I just play smallball and get singles , doubles , etc. Even when fantasy drafting a Yankees team with power hitters , I still can't hit hr's (and this is when hitter contact and power are set to 50!) In an average game I get around 8-10 hits, 2-3 of them HRs.
TooMuchPie
what difficulty are you playing on cause i play on mvp and i have a 40 home run hitter in all three levels. All i do is pull fastballs and offspeed stuff. Also try chosing different ballparks. The spring training 1 0r 2 one has a really short right field fence. thaimexico
I found I hit more HRs last year. This year, with Ultimate Rosters 6.2 (which is great), I can't hit very many. I am wondering if the URs is the reason.

TomtheBitx
If I am far behind in the game and I really really need the long ball, then I try and look dead red. I mean, I look for a straight fastball. What I do is concentrate on my batter's strike zone and try to ignore his stance. If I can see one that is coming inside, then thats when I can turn on it. With the right timing then that ball can be smashed and leave the place in a hurry. Lefty batters do better with righty pitching for me and same with right handed batters and lefty pitchers. That way, the pitch is coming right at me instead of moving to the outside. Also, a high off speed pitch can be crushed if you time the swing well. Those just hang up there. Roscosuper
It's not UR, it's all in your head thaimexico may have a point. If he's used too straight fastballs, he might have not adjusted yet. If he's playing on mvp level, it's hard to cheat to pull the fastball when it's breaking.
adamb10
I play on the Pro level. You also brought up a good point, I swing at everything I get(even wild pitches).
HCaray
I can only seem to hit homeruns(consistantly) with players who actually hit homeruns in real life, DLee, ARam, ect... Ultimate Rosters is very good. That said, taking pitches, and wearing down the opposing pitcher is a great way to hit the long ball. When tired, he will sometimes miss his location and tip the pitch, and you can jack one. Also, when tired, as a way of not tipping his pitch, he will not throw as hard, or not put as much break on his curve or slider. Most of my runs are scored from the third inning on. uspdude
if you hit the right pitch + good timing, even your pitcher can hit one off. I've hit 3 HRs with Brad Penny last season.
SlAyR
i usually look for something reasonable high in the strike zone and crank it home
googs13
Here's a little trick, and trust me, it works. I read this on a post last year, and ever since I have used it, it has worked like a charm. When one of my home run hitters is up, such as Arod, Matsui, Sheffield, etc, I hold the analog stick up even before the pitch is thrown. Almost like you are preloading your swing. If you get something high in the zone, the analog stick is already up there, then if the pitch is inside or outside, I keep the stick up, and just push it towards where the pitch is. My guys crush the ball now. I play on MVP level with hard sliders and everything, but I am hitting HR's like I should. Arod has 21 Hr's about 50 something games in. The only problem is I seem to pop out more now if you don't hit the pitch well, but you will see your HR totals go up dramatically. I told my friend about it...he uses the Mets, and the first game he did it...Delgado hit 3 HR's for him. You can do this for most of your players, but I only do it for my HR hitters. The lower hitters will pop out a lot more. Hope this helps, and let me know if it works for you.
D-Unit
tilting the left analog stick could help hit home runs. hitting up and tilting to the side of the plate the hitter is on will increase the chance of a HR by a lot. but with two strikes i just tilt straight up and that works well too. but when you tilt diagonally, only swingat pitches down and the middle and to the side youre tilting. adamb10
I tilt the stick upper left or upper right depending on if the batter is batting lefty or righty.
infineon
I just try to aim wherever the pitch is coming, which actually yields better home run totals for me then when I was actually looking to try to hit a home run.
philliesphan18
Personally I excell with lefties, I can usually hit a homer with a lefty if I press up and right (or use the analog stick), and sometimes it doesn't even have to be a power hitter. Like for instance I usually hit hrs with Chase Utley and Ryan Howard, but I also jack some longballs with Scott Posednik.
D-Unit
if a pitcher throws it high and tight, and you tilt up and that direction, 9 out of 10 times it will be a homer.
Klesko174
I can usually hit home runs pretty well, I do this....... I hold the analog stick up and to whatever direction corresponds with my batter (ie RHB up and left, LHB up and to right) then when i see a pitch coming and it's not a mistake pitch (pitch that turns either red, blue, or white) i take my thumb off of the analog stick and just go for a regular hit, but if it is a mistake pitch i keep my thumb on it and try to hit it out of the park. I usually hit between 2-5 homeruns a game. Another tip is that if you have batter's eye on, if you face a guy like barry zito or someone who brings their hands over their head during their windup, you can look into his glove and see what pitch is coming before he ever releases it, that makes it a little easier.
