Editing walls- OEdit or wall.dat... or both?

K... so I was messing with the vertices of walls in OEdit. I need to go to bed soon here and don't have time to do the whole long edit of the entire wall, so I'll ask if anyone knows...

If I pull the vertices in different directions, will that actually create wall or just the appearance of wall? (In OEdit that is) What I mean is, does this create a wall that the ball bounces off of and remains in the park, or does the ball hit it and be called a home run, or does it go right through?

I know you can alter walls with them serving the proper function, but do you also have to use wall.dat, or can you use just OEdit? I ask because using Sean O's guidelines on wall.dat and OEdit, when I check vertex properties on OEdit, nothing ever comes up. Is this necessary or can I just mess with the shape of the vertices and get a fully functional wall?

OEdit only creates the appearance of a wall - wall.dat is what actually creates the geometric boundaries in the game.

It's too bad that OEdit is seemingly no longer in development; I think it would be great if you can import the points of wall.dat in the program so you can see the points, make changes, and then export it out again...

That's what I was afraid of.

I wanna do some wall work, but nothing I've done yet seems to change anything and I tried following the 3 columns thing in wall.dat but that didn't work. (Couldn't get vertex properties to say anything in OEdit)

Hmm....

Wait you... did a search to find an answer on a complex issue? I'm so confused, but very, very impressed. Welcome to the site.

Vertex properties is tricky, trying to select just one vertex. What i typically do is zoom all the way in, then just ballpark it. So, have wall.dat open, and try to find the point that is approx. the same as what you see in oedit. make sense?

Yeah it makes sense.

Why is vertex properties always blank? I must be doing something wrong.

I'm glad I did that search you speak of, because wall editing is the big thing I've been hoping could be done.
