Gordo
I learned earlier tonight that a SAC fly does not count as an AB for the batter, but what about an error by a fielder...... say the SS overthrew 1st base and the runner is obviously safe. Is the batter give an AB?
kgbaseball
Errors are counted as at bats, and given as an 0-1. Now let's say the 2b overthrew the 1b, and the runner would've been safe even with a perfect throw, and he is now standing on second base. The batter is given a hit (1-1) and the fielder is charged with a 1 or 2 base error, depending on where the runner ends up.
Gordo
Excellent....thx. Now, here's another: If the home team has a 2-0 lead after the conclusion of the bottom of the 8th and the visiting team takes the lead in the top of the 9th, then changes pitchers going into bottom of the 9th and hold on to win, who is the pitcher of record? Does the pitcher who finished in the bottom of the 8th get the win even though he didn't have the lead? And then if he does, I would assume the pitcher coming in in the B9 gets the save? kgbaseball
The pitcher that was pitching for the visiting team in the bottom of the 8th gets the win, and the guy that works the 9th gets the save. If the pitcher that pitched bttom 8 and then closed out the game, he just gets a win, no save.
