But hey, the only screwballer around these days is the recently retired Jim Mecir. I don't remember him having arm problems but his knee got screwed up. ELDoro Posted May 8, 2006 Share Posted May 8, 2006 Contraras throws just about everything in the book. When he came over from Cuba he was throwing like 8 different pitches in game situations. Way more than you would ever need. At the MLB level it is much more effective just to stick with maybe your 4 best pitches. Just because you can throw a certain pitch does not mean it will be effective against major leaguers. All those MLB pitchers have some idea on how to throw just about every pitch.
