Help picking off the CPU

I searched through old posts, but I don't think I saw anything too useful.

No one ever seemed to say how to do quick pickoff vs slow pickoff - I believe 5 + base as listed on the game screen is the quick, while 7 + base in slow. Neither one is remotely effective for me - the CPU baserunner always is back nearly as soon as I start the throw.

Is there any slider or datafile modification to adjust the CPU baserunner's reaction time? It would be perfect if there were a "CPU pickoff return delay" in the vein of "CPU steal delay". Could it be that my steal delay is set too far negative, so the CPU never is close to going, so they never are leaning when I try to pick them off?

Also, how should I use the throw meter when trying to pick someone off? Should I hold it down a long time to get into the red, to make a harder throw? Or would that take too long - should I let go of the button quickly to make them throw over quickly????

How often do you expect to pick a runner off. Not too often, I hope. There's no need for a datafile adjustment. Alter your timing, that is, wait 5 seconds on the first pitch, then 10 seconds of the second pitch 7 on the third etc. Try to suprise the cpu. Throw over (only slow) on 0-0 and 1-1 for the first 2 innings. Then, after that, throw over (fast) deep in the count. If you're doing the same thing over and over you'll have little success. the cpu will shut you down if you display too many patterns. give them a different look from time to time and keep them on their toes.

I was just concerned since I have never seen it be close - every time the computer tries to pick me off, my guy usually gets back, but a lot of times it's close - with the computer it's never even a question.

A little experimenting tells me that one simple answer to my question is:

Releasing the ball in the red gets the ball there faster and makes it closer, but increases the risk of error.

Even if you release it in the green early to try to throw it sooner, there is no mustard on itand it's not close...

This was after I reduce the computer's steal delay drastically - I'll put it back to normal and see what happens.
