Sean O's Ballparks - 1961 Series

Hey folks-

Candlestick's almost done! The oediting is pretty crisp overall, but the graphics are typical Sean O quality, meaning... not so good. But, it's functional, it's mostly done, and it's totally Candlestick Park.

Remember that in 1961, Candlestick Park had not been fully enclosed like the current version, so it was a much more pleasant place to see a game. Here's Andrew Clem's layout:

CandlestickPark1.gif

So, no enclosure, just a view at a bunch of cars and sky.

If you want to take a crack at doing graphics for the park, let me know, and we can talk.

Hey Folks-

So, I've also been working on LA Wrigley Field. It's rough, and I still need to get permission from Paul about the textures, but it's pretty much done. Absurdly short power alleys, which led to over 240 homers in its one season. It's pretty ridiculous.

LA Wrigley, thanks andrew clem:

Still a work in progress, but it's mostly done.

Is there any interest in a "fantasy" version with a tall fence in left field as well? The 345 alley is just so, so small, people may want a more typical experience.

Hey again folks!

Wasn't feeling so hot today (don't lock your keys in your car, especially when it's cold out), so I had plenty of time off from work to take care of a new project.

Even moreso than usual, it should be noted that this is rough, graphically horrendous, and somewhat historically inaccurate. But, when only one picture exists of the park you're trying to make, problems undoubtedly arise.

This is Kansas Municipal Stadium, home to the KC Athletics and the KC Royals, before giving way to the best stadium ever built. It's a WIP, as I need to add buildings to the outfield to try to give it more of a city feel, but it's pretty close to being finished. It's far from a beautiful looking mod, but it should be servicable enough for the 61 mod.

As usual, if you want to mod the graphics, you're welcome to take a shot.

It's not great, but it's totally a park. Hope people enjoy.

Sean,

What's the chance of making an '80s version of Candlestick?

Virtually none. post-renovation Candlestick would require an incredible amount of changes, only to make what was a really unfortunately ugly park.

There are a great number of parks ahead of it at the moment, both in terms of beauty and historical importance. Since there's no mid-80s mod, and nothing coming down the line as far as I know, old Candlestick should do nicely. After all, the field dimensions didn't change after the renovation, so there's no real difference between the places.

Sorry.

Looks great so far, Sean. Without the enclosed structure, can we expect less wind turbulance that used to wreak havoc in the outfield? ;)

JK, the stadium looks great and I can't wait to use it.

If Willie Mays didnt play in Candlestick park, the man would have had 700 homeruns.

Thank you for making this, i cant wait to play this park either.

No real release dates yet, still trying to figure some things out, and work through the remaining little issues.

I've updated the first post to add a brand new park WIP, enjoy!

Heya-

Been working on parks every day, and making great progress. I made two (well, 4, if you include day / night) versions of KC Municipal, showing the original version that the A's played in for 1961, and the short-lived Pennant Porch. It truly is one of the weirdest ideas in ballpark history, so I'm glad to bring it to life.

Night version, KC Athletics vs. the NY Yankees:

Pennant Porch Daytime Edition:

Now, here's the thing. Either I can have an accurate scoreboard, the one that was purchased from Braves Field in 1955 but that wouldn't be functional, or I can keep the current one which looks similar, that would be fully functional. I'm leaning towards the latter simply because it'll save me some work, but I'd like the input.

How about the KC municipal? Im in the middle of a KC a's Dynasty on TC 61 and would love to use it.

It's included with TC6. If I get some time, I'm going to create a full KC Municipal pack, with the version included in TC6, the night version, and the special "Pennant Porch" edition. I think I also did a '69 version, but possibly not.

I also have something else (not 61, but close) on the burner right now, so keep that in mind.

Sean, on your Candlestick Park that is in MVP 1967, the bench players and manager are sitting underground-ish and out in foul territory.

Is there a way to modify the datafile to put them back on the bench?

Otherwise, I absolutely love this stadium. First time playing there. The view of the cars in right field is a nice touch.

Yeah, if you unpack Cleveland Stadium's datafile and put it in the data folder, it'll fix all that. Same goes for Milwaukee County and Baltimore Memorial.

For a unique stadium, Cleveland Municipal served as a great base for so many other parks.

Can you give steps on how to do this? Do I open up the .big file with EAGraph? If so, which file is the datafile that I want to extract?

On second thought, I noticed that when we packaged Milwaukee County Stadium with Total Classics (as aaa2nite.big), that we included an aaa2nite.txt file. Can we simply make copies of this file and rename them for use with Baltimore Memorial Stadium and Candlestick Park?

I just redownloaded your Milwaukee County mod from 2005 and noticed that while the .big file is the same one in both your original mod file and what we include in Total Classics, the .txt files are different. Any idea why the .txt files changed?

Just finished a 3 game series (actually a 7 game series*) and love the park. I'd love to help you out with some of the graphical stuff as far as the scoreboard, etc...got any good photos?

Something I noticed, Mike Shannon hit a ball down the line in one of my imaginary games that the computer decided to freeze during cause I was kicking the crap out of it. Anyways, the ball rolled to the foul pole, past the wall and then up the grandstand. Shannon ran around, they called it an inside the park HR, but then scored it a run scoring 2B. Not sure if the collision dat misses right there in the corner or not.

*As for the extra games, I was beating the computer 7-1, 6-0, 8-1 and 5-0 in 4 straight games and it froze in all of them. Cepeda in those 4 games went 8 for 10 with 5 HRs and 9 RBIs. Needless to say, I wasn't too pleased. Finally, the one game it doesn't freeze, I win 1-0. Go freaking figure.

Anyways, love Candlestick. If you have any photos laying around, I could fix you up a scoreboard. I could also put together some tree graphics for in front of the hitter's eye.

EDIT: Found an old washed out photo and these were the colors it had.

This is what I've done so far. You would need to add the supports underneath the scoreboard to put it up in the air. I didn't want to do any OEdit'ing to your stadium.

Score, that looks amazing man. There are some things that should be touched up at the 'stick anyway, so it'll be good for everyone.

I only realize how rough a stadium looks well after it's released. I really would kill to have someone go through my work and polish it up, especially County and Baltimore. There's definitely a price to pay for massive Oedit changes.

Sean, did you ever add that scoreboard in? I've tried looking at your stadiums in OEdit, but I can never get a workable .o file from them.

Something else to think about, based on this photo:

candleold.jpg

*Trees in CF

*The 3 clusters of bleachers in RF, much like current day PNC

*The scoreboard, obviously

I think with the additions of those, you'd have a definitive Candlestick Park for the 1960's.

1). I've been having major computer issues, so I haven't had a chance to update the graphics or clean the whole place up.

2). The bleachers in right field were not always there (http://www.ballparksofbaseball.com/past/candold2.jpg, http://www.ballparksofbaseball.com/past/candlestick1.jpg), and since I wanted the park to apply for 1961, I omitted that seating.

Once I get my computer issues fixed I'll try to update the stick.
