Taylor_Made Posted May 16, 2006 Author Share Posted May 16, 2006 [align=center] Game 1 of the 3 game series: Cleveland Indians(0-0) @ Chicago White Sox(0-0) Konerko Homers Twice As White Sox's Win 6-2 [/align] Game Notes Cleveland *(Ticker) – The Indians faced off against the Chicago White Sox’s and pulled out to an early lead thanks to a RBI double by Travis Hefner that scored Grady Sizemore, The White Sox’s answered back thanks to a RBI double by Joe Crede that scored A.J. Pierzynski in the bottom of the 2nd. Grady Sizemore put the Indians back in front when he blasted a solo HR in the 3rd but the Sox’s then when on a 4-0 run lead by Paul Konerko who homered twice once in the bottom of the 4th and then again in the bottom of the 5th. Tadahito Iguchi also homered and drove in 2 runs to help the Sox’s to a 6-2 victory. Mark Buehrle picked up the win for the White Sox’s after pitching 7.2 innings with 3 strikeouts and 2 earned runs and Jake Westbrook was giving the loss after going 4.1 innings with 5 earned runs a 3 homeruns. Game 2 Starters will be Freddy Garcia for the Whit Sox’s and C.C. Sabathia for the Indians. Sabathia giving up two 3 run home runs firstly to Paul Konerko and then to Joe Crede. Ron Belliard scpored the Indians only run when he hit a sac fly that drove in And Marte but that was it for the Indians as the White Sox drove in another 8 unanswered runs to win 14-1. Freddy Garcia picked up the win for the White Sox and C.C. Sabathia recorded the loss for the 0-2 Indians. Jose Contreras will start game 3 for the White Sox’s and Cliff Lee will be the Starter for the Indians. [/align] Game Notes Cleveland *(Ticker) – Cleveland came into this game on a 2 game losing skid and things started out very badly for the tribe. Jim Thome blasted a 2 run Home Run in the 1st and then Juan Uribe and Brian Anderson blasted back – to back Solo Home Runs to give the White Sox a 4-0 lead. Jason Michaels blasted a Solo HR in the 3rd to make it a 4-1 game but Uribe drove in Jermaine Dye to make it a 5-1 game. Eduardo Perez Homered in the 7th to make it a 5-2 game and then Rookie Andy Marte knocked in a RBI to make it 5-3 in the 9th but that was all she wrote as the White Sox swept the Indians 3 games to 0. The Cleveland Indians receive Outfielder Dave Roberts, Outfielder Freddy Guzman and RP Alan Embree from the San Diego Padres and SS B.J. Upton from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Indians went into this trade looking to get an upgrade in the speed department and did that with the speedy Roberts and two electrifying athletes in Upton and Guzman. [/align] Game Notes Cleveland *(Ticker) – The Cleveland Indians traveled to Detroit to face off against the 0-3 Tigers. The Tigers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to RBI’s to Craig Monroe and Dmitri Young. Newly acquired B.J. Upton then hit a triple that scored 2 to make it a tied ball game in the top of the 2nd. Carlos Guillen then blasted a RBI double for a 4-2 Tigers lead, the Tigers extended that lead when Young belted a 2 run home run for a 6-2. The Indians got 3 runs in the top of the 5th thanks to RBI’s by Dave Roberts, Andy Marte and Jason Michaels. The Tigers then jumped out to a 9-5 lead thanks to a Chris Shelton 3 run Home Run and that was as close as the Indians would get falling to 0-4 on the season. SP Paul Byrd was taken from the field in the 1st inning thanks to a line drive by Young that fractured his nose. Byrd is out 5 days. The Cleveland Indians receive SP Bronson Arroyo and SP Eric Milton to help strengthen their bullpen and add some much needed leadership and experience to the Tribes pen. The Indians parted way with 2B Ron Belliard and CL Bob Wickman and DH Ben Broussard. Bronson Arroyo will make his Cleveland Debut when the Tribe host the Whit Sox’s in game 2 of their series later this week. Cleveland who had been on the road for the first 6 games of the season finally got to play at Jacobs Field, but things did not go as planned for the Tribe. Jermaine Dye put the Whit Sox’s up 2-0 when he drilled a 2 run HR in the top of the 2nd and then in the top of the 3rd Jim Thome blasted a Solo HR for a 3-0 lead and things just got worse from there for the Indians. In the Top of the 6th A.J. Piezynski and Joe Crede hit back to back Solo Home Runs and then in the 8th Crede knocked in Piezynski to give the White Sox’s a 6-0 lead and that’s how it would end. Freddy Garcia pitched a strong game allowing only 2 hits all game while striking out 7. Bronson Arroyo (1-0) will start next for the Indians and Jose Contreras (1-0) will start for the White Sox’s. Arroyo pitched 7 strong innings but got little run support from his new team mates. Arroyo allowed 3 runs in the in the 6th when Scott Posednick double and drove in two and then Jim Thome drove in Posednick for a 3-0 lead and that was how it stayed. Cleveland has now scored 3 runs in their last 3 games and has allowed 21 runs. Paul Byrd will start game 3 of the series for the Indians and John Garland will get the start for the Sox’s.
