cybernetic
Streak Comes to an End as Jays Fall to Red Sox April 22nd, 2006 - Game 16 of 162 Game 2 of 3: Boston Red Sox (8-9) @ Toronto Blue Jays (12-3) Boston Red Sox 6, Toronto Blue Jays 4 No pictures taken in-game, sorry Usually in a Roy Halladay start, 4 runs are more than enough support but not tonight as Halladay was not himself. He struggled with command and gave up far too many hits (12 in total) and 6 runs (5 of which were earned). Josh Beckett also struggled giving up 4 runs on 9 hits in the contest. Boston opened the scoring in the 3rd as David Ortiz hit an RBI-single. They would take a 2-0 lead int he 5th on a Mark Loretta RBI double. The Jays would storm back in the bottom of the 5th scoring 3 times on 4 straight hits, all with 2 outs, to take a 3-2 lead. Halladay got through the 6th but in the 7th he ran in to trouble again, blowing the lead and giving up 2 runs in the inning to make it 4-3 in favor of the Red Sox. Alex Rios would tie the game with an RBI double in the 7th. Dustan Mohr would give the Red Sox back the lead in the 8th with an 2 RBI double and it would stand as the Red Sox took the game 6-4. Roy Halladay was the loser (1-2) throwing 8 innings and allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 12 hits and striking out 7. Josh Beckett got the win (1-2) giving up 4 runs on 9 hits in 7 innings and striking out 2. Keith Foulke picked up his 3rd save with a scoreless inning in relief. cybernetic
Obviously Hinske is not an everyday player.. he has 17 at-bats this season through 18 games.. he gets an odd start here or there, I think he's had 3. He has 1 hit this season (a home run). Halladay had a start where he went 9 but the game was 1-1 (or 2-2 I forget) and went into extra innings. The bullpen got the win in that one. So out of 4 starts he's had 2 amazing starts and 2 not so good (both his losses).
Roy31
Hehe maybe he will have some trade value if you need to fix something up later in the season. Nice team and you have a nice early 3 game lead.
cybernetic
His contract is too high, nobody wants him. So I'll start him once a week or so and see if he can do anything to boost the trade value. He also pinch-runs from time to time, he has decent speed for a big guy.

I often notice I can trade a guy like hinske for something half decent just a good role player whether you need speed or a good contact hitter or whatever. Wow Adams looks like hes doing quite well lol. If you could put up some team batting stats after 20 or 25 games that would be cool. Looks like you have a good team and a fun dynasty going. cybernetic
Adams now has enough at-bats to qualify for the batting title so he might be close to the league lead in average. I'm not sure. Yeah I'll probably dump Hinske mid-season for some mid-level prospect. I could or possibly package him with someone for a spare part (i.e. a 5th outfielder or something)
cybernetic
In an effort to make the dynasty more realistic I will DL Burnett and Chacin on the same day in which they were actually DLed and for the same amount of games. Since I just finished the game that Burnett was placed on the DL at I'm going to just scratch him from his start and DL him before the game and recall Janssen to start in his place. cybernetic
Burnett Scratched from Start with Elbow Injury April 22nd, 2006 Prior to this afternoon's game against the Boston Red Sox, scheduled starter A.J. Burnett was scratched due to elbow soreness and after a meeting with team doctors and a series of x-rays, it was ruled that he had a sprained elbow. Team doctors seem to think that he will miss about a month and a half on the DL. He was immediately placed on the 15-day DL and Casey Janssen has been called up from Syracuse (AAA) to take his rotation spot. However, Janssen started 2 days ago for Syracuse and will not start today. Lefty Scott Downs will make an emergency spot start in his place and the next time the rotation turns around Janssen will start in Burnett's spot. cybernetic
Jays Rough Up Clement, Rout Sox April 23rd, 2006 - Game 17 of 162 Game 3 of 3: Boston Red Sox (9-9) @ Toronto Blue Jays (12-4) Toronto Blue Jays 10, Boston Red Sox 3 Above: Troy Glaus hits a 3-run HR into the bullpen (1st inning). Right: Wily Mo Pena answers with a 2-run bomb of his own (2nd inning). A.J. Burnett was scratched from today's start with elbow soreness and Scott Downs was called on to make an emergency spot start. He got through the first inning unphased, retiring all 3 batters in order. The Jays would then get to Clement on the bottom of the 1st. Alex Rios led-off with a single, Frank Catalanotto doubled to drive him in, Vernon Wells then singled to move Catalanoto to third. Troy Glaus would then step up and hammer a ball over the right-field fence as the Jays got out to a quick 4-0 lead. The Red Sox got to Downs in the 2nd though as Manny Ramirez hit a lead-off single and then Wily Mo Pena then promptly homered to left-field on the 2nd pitch he saw from Downs to make it 4-2. David Ortiz drove in a run with a single in the top of the 5th to make it 4-3. Alex Rios then homered in the bottom of the frame to extend the lead to 5-3. The Jays would rough up Clement again in the 6th as Rios drove in his 2nd run of the game with a single then Catalanotto hit a triple to drive in 2 runs making it 8-3 and chasing the starter, Matt Clement. David Riske didn't fare much better as he gave up a single to the first batter he faced, Vernon Wells, to drive in Catalanotto from 3rd. Catalanotto would add an RBI double in the 8th to make it 10-3 and that's how it would finish. Catalanotto went 4-for-5 with 2 2B's, a 3B and 4 RBI. He was just a homer shy of the cycle. Vernon Wells also went 4-for-5 with 4 singles. Scott Downs got the win (1-0) as he went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. He didn't walk a batter and struck out 3. Matt Clement's line was downright ugly in comparison as he got the loss (0-2). He went 5 1/3 innings allowing 9 runs (all earned) on 13 hits. He didn't walk a batter and struck out 2. Pete Walker threw 3 innings of scoreless relief allowing just 1 hit. Scott Schoeneweis also threw a scoreless inning. Right: Vernon Wells and Alex Rios watch a Luis Matos grand slam in the 5th. The Jays rallied and walked off to win an 8-7 thriller that was an all-out slugfest. The Jays opened the scoring in the 1st with a solo home run (5) off the bat of Alex Rios. They would extend the lead to 3 on an RBI-single by Shea Hillenbrand who would also come around to score on a throwing error by first baseman Jay Gibbons that went into left-field that was a botched double play, in the 4th. Josh Towers would fall into a lot of trouble in the 5th, loading the bases with 1 out for Luis Matos who hit a grand slam to center field. Corey Patterson would also hit a solo home run later in the inning to give the Orioles a 5-4 lead. Towers would get the final out of the inning but leave with the Jays trailing by 1. In the 6th, the Jays would tie up the game with back-to-back solo home runs from Shea Hillenbrand and Bengie Molina. In the 7th, they would add to the lead with Alex Rios' 2nd home run of the game to stretch the lead to 7-5. The bullpen would hold the lead until B.J. Ryan gave up a solo home run to pinch-hitter Ramon Hernandez in the 9th to make it 7-6 and later Melvin Mora would drive in a run with 2-outs to tie the game. It would be B.J.'s 2nd blown save in 9 opportunities this season. Vernon Wells would pick him up, however, in the bottom of the 9th hitting a walk-off 2-out home run to give the Jays an 8-7 victory. B.J. Ryan got the win (1-0) in relief after blowing the save. Brian Burres got the loss for the Orioles (1-3), he pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief of starter Bruce Chen.
