cybernetic
Hitters: Opening Day lineup: Alex Rios (RF)- Alex Rios has had a break-out season this year with a .320 average. He has played in all 40 games this season. He's also hit 10 homers already which was his total for all of last season. He also has 30 RBI and leads the team with 7 stolen bases. Frank Catalanotto (LF)- Frank has had a good season in a platoon role with Reed Johnson in left-field. He has hit .316 with 3 homers and 13 RBI in 35 games. He, however, has struggled in the field committing 5 errors already. He also has spent some time late in games at second base and at first this season. Vernon Wells (CF)- Wells has had a good year to this point but his average is a bit low (.258). He leads the team in home runs (14) and RBI (32) and has appeared in all 40 games this season. Troy Glaus (3B)- Glaus has got off to a bit of a slow start this season. His average (.250) is around the career norm for him. He has 7 homers and just 12 RBI this season in 37 games. Shea Hillenbrand (DH)- Shea got off to a slow start but picked up before being traded to the Angels. He had a .303 average with 7 homers and 14 RBI for the Jays over 23 games. Contract disputes led to his move, he was demanding too much money in a new deal and the Jays weren't prepared to pay it. Lyle Overbay (1B)- Lyle Overbay is off to a great start this season with a .315 average. He has 13 home runs and 19 RBI's and is off to a career pace. His previous career high for him is 19 home runs. Bengie Molina ©- Bengie started the year as the #1 catcher but has struggled at the plate with a .246 average. He has 4 home runs and 8 RBI. He has now slipped to being the #2 catcher behind Gregg Zaun. His slow start is believed to be caused by his weight problem. Aaron Hill (2B/SS)- Aaron Hill started the season at second base but later moved to short with the Russ Adams' struggles defensively at the position. Hill's natural position is at short so it wasn't much of a move. Hill has struggled at the plate of late after a good start. He doesn't hit for power so that's not what's expected of him but he is a good contact hitter. He is hitting .241 with 2 homers and 10 RBI. He's also stolen 5 bases. Russ Adams (SS/2B)- As stated before, Adams struggled at short defensively and was moved to second base. He is hitting very well with a .314 average which prompted him to move to the lead-off spot. He has 3 home runs and 8 RBI while stealing 4 bases. Bench: Edgardo Alfonzo (IF): Alfonzo was signed as a minor league free agent and was meant to be an injury replacement. However, with reserve infielder John McDonald hitting terrible he was called up. He has done well with a .400 average over 4 games. He has 1 RBI. He starts in the line-up against lefties only at this point at either DH or in the infield from time-to-time. John-Ford Griffin (DH): Griffin was called up after Hillenbrand was dealt to the Angels and has fit in well as the DH. He is off to a hot start hitting .290 with 4 homers and 8 RBI in just 10 games. He is expected to see more time against lefties in the near future but has only been in the lineup to this point against right-handers. Gregg Zaun ©: Zaun has hit fairly well but not to the level he did last season. He has just .258 average with 3 homers and 6 RBI. He does not have a hit batting right-handed this season (17 at-bats) so he likely will see less and less time against left-handed pitchers this season. Reed Johnson (OF): Johnson platoons with Catalanotto in LF and is in the lineup against lefties in left-field. However, he has struggled at the plate this season with just a .211 average with no home runs and 2 RBI in 57 at-bats. He's been used a lot as a pinch runner and a late game defensive replacement. Eric Hinske (1B/3B/DH/RF/LF): Hinske has played all over the field this season and has been OK at the plate in a reserve role. He is hitting just .194 but he only has 31 at-bats. He has hit 2 homers and 3 RBI in that time. He, like Johnson, is used as a pinch runner a lot as well. John McDonald (SS/2B): McDonald started the season as the backup infielder and has been terrible at the plate with a .053 average. He has just 1 hit in 19 at-bats this season. He was used as a late game defensive replacement for Adams early and was starting against most lefties. Adams has shown he can handle lefties quite well so McDonald was eventually phased out of the lineup and sent down the AAA. He was called up for interleague play however and could see time in a reserve role again.

Right: Choo Freeman hits a solo home run in the 6th. Dustin McGowan was mowing down batter after batter tonight and was rarely in trouble. He had 4 strikeouts through the first 2 innings. The Jays opened the scoring in the 3rd when Russ Adams scored on an Alex Rios sacrifice fly. Edgardo Alfonzo would hit an RBI-double with 2 on to score Eric Hinske who reached on a fielder's choice, making it 2-0. The Rockies finally got on the board in the 6th when Choo Freeman hit a lead-off home run off McGowan. McGowan allowed another hit in the inning but got out of it without further damage. The Jays would add a run on a solo home run from Alex Rios in the 7th (off starter Byung-Hyun Kim) and another on a wild pickoff throw in the 9th off reliever Chin-Hui Tsao to make it 4-1 and hang on for the victory. B.J. Ryan picked up his 15th save of the season. Dustin McGowan won his 2nd straight start (2-0) going a solid 6 innings. He allowed a run on 5 hits, walked none and struck out 4 batters. Clubhouse Talk: "I just was sitting on a fastball from Kim, he was getting tired and wild." - Alex Rios, OF "Dustin has done a good job filling in the rotation for us with the injuries. It will be a tough decision between him and Janssen when Lilly is ready to come off the D.L." - John Gibbons, Mgr 3 stars: 1. Dustin McGowan 2. Alex Rios 3. Choo Freeman Transactions: None. cybernetic
Jays Lose Thriller in Colorado May 21, 2006 - Game 43/162 Above: Todd Helton hit one to tie the 8th and Hawpe hit the winner in the 13th. The Jays jumped out to an early lead in the 3rd inning when Russ Adams hit a bases loaded triple into the left-center field gap to give Roy Halladay a 3-0 lead. Halladay was cruising until the 6th where he yielded a lead off walk and which came back to a hurt him as later on in the inning, Matt Holliday hit a 2-run double into the right-center gap to make it 3-2. In the 8th, the bullpen blew the lead as Scott Schoeneweis gave up a solo home run to Todd Helton which tied the game. The teams woudl exchange hits and pitchers until the 13th where Justin Speier gave up a lead-off home run to Brad Hawpe as the Rockies walked off to the win. Roy Halladay had a good outing going 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, walked one and struck out 5. Jason Jennings also went 7 for the Rockies giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, walked none and struck out 2. Neither pitcher factored in the win. Justin Speier gave up his first run of the season in the 15th and fell to 2-1 on the season. IN 15.2 innings this season he has allowed just 9 hits and 1 run. Clubhouse Talk: "I made a good pitch to Hawpe he just some how pulled an outside and away pitch for a home run." - Justin Speier, RP "That was a good game for the team, a shame the bullpen couldn't hold the win for Doc there." - John Gibbons, Mgr 3 stars: 1. Brad Hawpe 2. Russ Adams 3. Roy Halladay Transactions: Following the game the Jays optioned SS John McDonald to AAA-Syracuse and recalled P Francisco Rosario. Rosario started the season with the team but struggled and was sent down to AAA. He pitched 4 games (all starts) for Syracuse during his stint down there going 1-3 in 21 innings, he had 4 walks and 15 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.57 in that time. Rosario will throw out of the bullpen. Other minor league movement: P Ty Taubenheim sent down to AA. P Jesus Delgado sent down to A. Outlook: The Jays now head to Tampa Bay to take on the Devil Rays in a 3-game series. The Jays have struggled against the Devil Rays this season going 2-4. cybernetic
Jays Rally in 8th, Take Opener Against Rays May 22, 2006 - Game 44/162 In what was a good pitcher's duel, the Jays opened the scoring in the 2nd inning. Edgardo Alfonzo and Bengie Molina each hit RBI-singles to drive in a run a-piece as the Jays took a 2-0 lead. Casey Janssen got into a trouble right away in the top of the 3rd. The Devil Rays strung together 4 consecutive hits and if not for a strong throw from Alex Rios the game might have been 3-2 Devil Rays. Tampa Bay did end up taking the lead in the 6th when Sean Burroughs hit an triple scoring Rocoo Baldelli who led-off the inning with a walk. Janssen was visibly tiring in the inning and after getting out of it without further damage, he did not return. Francisco Rosario pitched 2 scoreless innings before the Jays bats woke up in the bottom of the 8th. The Jays opened the frame with 3 consecutive singles to tie the game, then a Vernon Wells sacrifice fly would give them a 4-3 lead. B.J. Ryan struggled a bit and made it interesting in the 9th allowing 2 runners to get on with 2 outs but held on for the save. Francisco Rosario picked up the win (1-0), his first major league victory in relief of Casey Janssen. Jason Hammel (1-1) got the loss for the Devil Rays, throwing an inning of relief. B.J. Wells advanced to 3rd on hte throw and scored on a Troy Glaus sacrifice fly as the Jays took a 2-0 lead. The Devil Rays scored a run in the top of the 5th on a Joey Gathright lead-off home run. Russ Adams led off with a single, Frank Catalanotto reached on an error and then Alex Rios followed with a 3-run home run stretching the lead to 5-1. The Jays weren't done as Vernon Wells followed up with a solo home run making it 6-1 and chasing Jackson. Jackson did not record an out in the 5th. The Jays hung on from there and not allow another run. Edwin Jackson picked up the loss (3-5) going just 4 innings. He allowed 6 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits, walked none and struck out 3. cybernetic
Glaus delivers walk off win for Jays May 26, 2006 - Game 47/162 Left: Brian Anderson makes a diving catch to rob Alex Rios of a hit. Middle: Troy Glaus greeted at home after belting a walk off HR. Right: Dustin Hermanson took the loss and was visibly upset afterwards. It what was not one of Freddy Garcia's better outings, the Jays opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st. After Vernon Wells hit a 2-out double, Troy Glaus singled up the middle to bring him home. The Jays would eventually load the bases in the frame with a few singles but couldn't score anyone else in the inning. The White Sox would later tie the game in the 4th on a solo home run by Tadahito Iguchi, his 8th of the season. The tie wouldn't last long as the Jays would re-take the lead in the bottom of the frame when a 2-out grounder to the pitcher was not caught by first baseman Jim Thome allowing Eric Hinske to score from 3rd. The Jays would extend the lead in the bottom of inning when Eric Hinske hit a basehit to left-field on a hit-and-run play scoring Wells from 2nd giving the Jays a 3-1 lead. The White Sox would get one back scoring a run on a Paul Konerko basehit with runners on 2nd and 3rd. The Jays would extend the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the frame however. Russ Adams doubled scoring Aaron Hill who tripled right before him. And later Vernon Wells would single to drive in Adams. The win seemed to be in reach as it went to the top of the 9th with B.J. Ryan coming out to pick up the save. Unfortunately, Ryan was not sharp as he would yield a lead-off single to Jermaine Dye. He got A.J. Pierzynski to pop out but then gave up a single to Crede and walked Uribe to lead the bases. Brian Anderson then smacked a double the other way to make it 5-4 with the tying run on 3rd and the go-ahead run on 2nd. Rookie Jerry Owens then drove a sac-fly to deep left to tie the game. Ryan then retired Iguchi on a pop up sending it to the bottom of the 9th tied. Vernon Wells lead off for the Jays in the bottom of the 9th and almost hit a home run driving left-fielder Brian Anderson to the wall. Troy Glaus then stepped up and didn't miss it belting a walk-off home run (his 8th) into the Jays bullpen to secure the victory. Neither starter factored in the decision. Dustin McGowan went 6.2 innings allowing just 2 runs on 7 hits, didn't walk anyone and struck out 2. The White Sox saved a terrible outing from Freddy Garcia he went 7 innings allowing 5 runs on 12 hits. B.J. Ryan had his 2nd blown save of the season but picked up his 3rd win (3-0). Dustin Hermanson got the loss for the White Sox (1-3), going 1.1 innings. Scoring Plays: TOR 1st: Troy Glaus: RBI single. CWS 4th: Tadahito Iguchi: solo HR. cybernetic
Yeah he's been a good injury fill-in for me. I'm leaning towards keeping him up when Lilly comes off the DL in a couple of days. Players on the Block: Following the game, the Jays placed LF Frank Catalanoto and C Bengie Molina on the trading block. Catalanotto was surprised as he's having a good season average-wise. When asked about he said this: "I know I'm eligible to become a free agent next season but it's a little bit early in the season to think about moving me and I think I've done a good job contributing to the team." Jays GM said this: "Cat(alanotto) is a good player, he's a really good contact hitter but I don't think we're going to re-sign him in the off-season. I'm just placing him on the block now to see what's available on the open market for him but I don't think I'll be moving him soon unless something jumps right out and blows me away." aaronuconn
Where would you put Lilly, Bullpen, AAA, or something else?
cybernetic
Where would you put Lilly, Bullpen, AAA, or something else? Lilly will go back in the rotation.. it's either I send down Casey Janssen or McGowan when he comes back. My next 2 starts are Halladay and then Janssen so it'll be up to his performance there. But more than likely McGowan will stay up (at least until Burnett comes off the DL in another month).

cybernetic
O ok, just wondering. Jennesen had been doin the worst of the two I belive. Yeah I know he's just done well since being called up the 2nd time. He made two starts since being called up and was better in the first one. He hasn't gone 7 innings in any start this season. Unless he throws a complete game shutout or something he'll be the one sent down.
cybernetic
Hinske is starting to pan out for me as a role player.. even though he has a monstrous contract. He gets paid close to 4 million a year and has another year after this season I believe on his contract.
cybernetic
Something weird is going on with my dynasty. I went to use Brandon League and when I went to bring him in all his stats were gone and it said he had nothing and when he came on the mound all his pitches were gone as well and he had 0 stamina. I cancelled the game and went back to check.. all his stats no longer exist and all his pitches are gone.. he just has the basic 4 pitches again and a 90 mph fastball which is the default I guess. cybernetic
I've also found out that his player rating is almost 0 now. I'm going to look into it and try to do something.
