Cincinnati
Hello guys Hope you can help me... It's really annoying... Play five games and still no strikeouts... The CPU hit anything... I came with 2 strikes very very rarely and when I got a chance, any pitch will be hit, inside, ouside, in the strike zone... And they never miss it... Well, I play with the sliders, but nothing change, decrease the control of my pitcher, nothing change... Others parts of the game are fine and really realistic, but would like to get 3 or 4 K's per game to get it a little bit more exciting... Noe I know every batter I face will hit the ball... Thanks for trying!
kgbaseball
1. Lower CPU Swing Frequency 2. Raise User Pitch Control 3. Lower CPU Contact 4. Raise Foul Boul Frequency to +50 5. Throw pitches just outside the strike zone. Good luck!
snepp
Here's a few generic tips. Curveballs low and out of the zone work great. Fastballs high out of the zone work well, but dangerous. Slider out of the zone that moves away from the batter is great. Cutter that moves in on the batter can be effective, make sure not to leave it over the plate. I very rarely throw an 0-2 pitch that's hittable, meaning not only is it out of the zone, but it's WAY out of the zone. And always, mixing pitch speeds and locations is key. Half of my strikeouts come from changeups that are in the zone.

seanzarelli
I usually get anywhere between 6-10 strikeouts with my pitchers on All-Star level using one of Kumala's datafiles. But the key to my success like snepp listed, is mixing up pitches and the locations. If I have a pitcher that has a changeup or a sinker, and I have 2 strikes on the count, I usually place either of those pitches on the high-inside corner and the batter either watches it go by for a strike 3, swings early or makes bad contact unless they were sitting on a pitch in that location. Also, when I start out with the batter, it's either a fastball high and inside or a curve or slider low and away.
maxbjr
Wow, I'm going to try this too. I get a few strikeouts per game, but nothing realistic
Cincinnati
Here's an update... Play one game... Still no strikeouts... Got only four chances with two strikes and averytime they hit a foul ball or hit the ball in play... No CPU players missed a swing during the game... NOBODY... If I want a strike... Need the CPU to not swing or a foul ball but no miss... CPU Swing frequency is at -40 User pitch control to +20 CPU Contact -16 (they got 10 hits and 1 HR) Foul boul frequency +50 If I pitch outside, they don't swing... all the time... No fishing! So, maybe I'm just the worst pitcher ever to play this game!!!

aaronuconn
Its about location location location, and speed changes. Fastball to changeup are always good.

Mobius
if anybody has ever read 3 Night in August by Buzz Bissinger, you can use real life strategies in the game. Tony La Russa talks about how the first pitch strike is CRUCIAL. it sets the tone for the entire "battle" between the pitcher and hitter. after getting the first strike with a "get me over" pitch, you can then proceed to nibble the edges without worrying to much b/c you already have that first strike. when you get 2 strikes on the batter, waste a pitch outside the zone (i usually opt for a splitter down, curveball down or away, slider away, or fastball high). continue nibbling those edges trying to make the batter swing at your pitch. i use Hoop27's All-Star sliders slightly modified and i get pretty good results (6 strikeouts with kelvim escobar was my last game)...remember to not get lazy b/c that will result in fat pitches over the plate on counts like 0-1 or 0-2 where you didn't need to throw a strike. hope this helps! snepp
Mobius is right on. I hate it when I can't get the first pitch over, always seems to throw the rest of the at-bat out of whack. My last game with Santana against the Yankees, 7 innings, 7 k's. I even struck out Sheffield on 3 consecutive swinging strikes. :)
Cincinnati
So glad you can get some strikeouts guys! Still waiting for my first but will continue to work hard... Keeping you update!!! lol I played against the Rockies (not a great team) and I play all-star cause pro is too easy on offense... Thanks guys! TheMadcap
What team / What pitchers are you using? I've gotta say, "update your data file." i am only playing the first three innnings or so of a game on all-star (to test cf's) but I have often got 3 so + using MD's newest data file w/ an Xbox 360 controller. You gotta nibble!
kgbaseball
Yeah you can pretty much get a strikeout with any pitcher against any team. I think Madcap is right on the money when mentioning a datafile. It makes a huge difference in so many things, strikeouts included. Try MaddiesDaddy's datafile.
seanzarelli
Kumala also has a nice datafile. Even though he listed sliders for Pro Level, I took them and set them as the sliders for All-Star level, and here are my strikeout totals for my pitchers (Fantasy draft on Modded XBOX with Ultimate Rosters 6.1...I took all of the Baseball America Top 100) Ervin Santana: 22.0 IP - 19K Jeff Francis: 21.2 IP - 22K Felix Hernandez: 17.0 IP - 16K Kyle Davies: 14.1 IP - 16K Scott Kazmir: 13.1 IP - 12K Merkin Valdez: 7.0 IP - 6K Jesse Crain: 6.2 IP - 7K Matt Cain: 6.0 IP - 8K Gavin Floyd: 5.1 IP - 4K Jonathan Papelbon: 5.0 IP - 6K Huston Street: 1.2 IP - 2K (On DL)

NCMALEN
By the way, there are some good points about strikeouts here. When you are pitching think about how pitchers in REAL LIFE pitch. On an 0-2 count, there is no chance pitch #3 is anywhere close. Some pitchers blow fastballs by hitters, but the vast majority use offspeed pitches, breaking pitches, etc. to keep hitters off-balance. Johan Santana's a perfect example. He throws a 92-96 MPH fastball and then an 81 MPH changeup, and he's always around the strikezone. Moral of the story, change speeds, change locations, change pitches, and get batters to go fishing! Cincinnati
OK guys... I think I'm starting to get it! Just got six strikeout in one game! WOW! But I'm sure I can do better than that but it's a beginning! I played with Kumala datafile, but maybe give a try to MaddyDaddies datafile... Just to be sure, we put the file, which is a *.txt in the mvp folder on the c: drive in the data folder right?
D-Unit
does anyone here know how to modify the datafile.txt to restore the default pitching meter?
Mobius
i think i'm gonna try using a datafile even though i can get strikeouts pretty good and i'm a pretty good pitcher. sometimes, i get lazy with bullpen pitchers and just try to throw three straight fastballs to strike them out but then i promptly give up homeruns and lose. Cincinnati
So, I officially get it... Got approx 9 K's per game if I combine my starter with the relievers! That's good for the moment! Got a question... The stamina of my relievers always get back to 100% after each game... So if I use the same guy in three consecutive game, no problem, is stamina is full everytime... Is there a way to get the bullpen tired for few days if they don't have a day off? Is it in the sliders? Thanks a lot guys and thanks again for your help with the K's!
