kinghernandez
I know they suck but cut 'em a break. How do you get that many promising free agents who flop? Oh well, I saw trues did a KSTW mod for the 04 game but I would like it if someone could update the Mariners network with some new features. Thanks
thr33niL
I think Trues did a Fox Sports NW Overlay last year. I dont think he has done an updated version (?). Very true, there is no love for the M's around these parts. :(
kinghernandez
I know man, but seriously Aurillia, Spezio, Beltre, Reese, the list just goes on. I got the northwest that is not by Trues but it's a pretty simple layout and it's old. I'm liking the Lopez man, (All-Star!)
thr33niL
Thanks man, nice to find another Mariner fan in here.. Few and far between. The Ms have had some pretty horrible luck with FAs the last few years. Spiezio, Aurilia and Reese should have never been signed so you have to lay that at Bavasi's feet. Beltre on the other hand, I was ecstatic when we got him! It just hasnt worked out. Worst move under Bavasi thus far? Giving Guillen to the Tigers for two absolute SCRUB players (Santiago and Gonzalez... both released within a year). How bout another depressing tidbit... Mariners signed free agent Dave Hansen for a PH in 2004. Doing so, losing thier 1st round pick to Arizona. You know who the D-Backs got with that pick??? Freakin Conor Jackson.. Guh! So its been bone head moves combined with bad luck resulting in our current loser 2006 Mariners.

Ivanhoe
Worst move under Bavasi thus far? Giving Guillen to the Tigers for two absolute SCRUB players (Santiago and Gonzalez... both released within a year). Ha ha, that was was a great trade! Now watch Guillen tear up his knee again. :? Be patient, the M's have a few very good prospects in the minors.(i.e. Adam Jones.)
kinghernandez
Yeah, they have been saying that about the prospects for 5 years now but they all get hurt. Blackley, Nageotte, Snelling, Thornton again the list goes on. But I must say The Emiliano Fruto looked good in his short stint and Garciapara is tearing it up in AAA. If they don't work out the M's are in trouble because there is no one behind them. Oh, does anyone know why they are keeping Petagine? He has like 4 AB's. Why not get another outfielder? It's ok cause I like Bloomquist and with Reed struggling he plays a lot. Again, another borderline prospect. Even the announcers are struggling right now, anyone else notice how much they are messing up this year?
The_Jerk
Well that Freddy Garcia was a horrible trade. As was the Jeff Cirillo investment. As was the Thornton for Borchard deal, especially since they gave Borchard away on waivers. And Johjima is a waste of money. And Betancourt should not be their starting shortstop, they just need a bridge veteran to either Garciaparra or Tuisasosopo (sp?). And there were concerns about Beltre before they signed him, considering he only turned it on in a contract year. Considering how few injuries the M's have every season, Im surprised they can never put together a good team. And considering how many prospects they were supposed to be loaded with, we certainly haven't seen any of them make it to the majors, much less contribute. Shiggins
And Johjima is a waste of money. .. wtf u on about Johjima is a KING!!!!!!!!! ..... in my Fanasty baseball he is like 4th Leading Catcher .. in Points ..... (Counts Batting)

The_Jerk
And Johjima is a waste of money. .. [naughty word] u on about Johjima is a KING!!!!!!!!! ..... in my Fanasty baseball he is like 4th Leading Catcher .. in Points ..... (Counts Batting) Why would they spend their money on a veteran catcher who will be replaced in a year or two by either Ryan Christiansen, Guillermo Quiroz or Jeff Clement, when thy could have spent their money on some pitching. It's not like Johjima is going to single handedly make them a contending team.
kinghernandez
Can't forget Rob Johnson at C but I think Johjima will be around for a while with his quick bat. I have not seen many fastballs get by him. But when it comes to money it's Beltre and no one else that is the problem. They have so much invested in him that they can't do anything with him but play him.
chicubsfan09
you guys think your luck is bad we havent won a world series in 98 years
The_Jerk
But at least every time you get close and lose you always find something other than the team itself to blame it on. Considering the pitching talent that the Cubs have drafted, I'm surprised they are so bad.
chicubsfan09
well something bad happens at the wrong moment (see bartman, then alex gonzalez's boot, then 8 run inning in 03')
Guest
I love Johjima and anybody who says he sucks hasn't seen him play. He is a veteran catcher on an underachieving pitching staff that has improved drastically this season due to him. He's smart, a good hitter, a great fielder, and he's selfless. At least the Mariners aren't gay like the Yankees. Yankees Suck

kevattac
If someone dosent pull away with the AL west soon, the Mariners could sneak back into the hunt. All 4 teams are only atleast 5.5 games back. Lopez has been a very pleasent surprise and Ichiro is producing like always, but the mvp and arguably the most underated player in the AL is Raul Ibanez. Oh yeah and 33, how bout Willie this year (.294 BA) ?
xrhino13x
does anyone else think Beltre juiced in a contract year?
kinghernandez
does anyone else think Beltre juiced in a contract year? I'd say most likely but the reason he's not hitting now is because the ball goes to people and he just can't find a gap. He's not striking out a whole lot, that is for Sexson to do. The fans are really getting sick of that. :protest:
The_Jerk
But you knew what you were getting with sexson when they signed him. Maybe you would expect mroe power, but he's alwasy been a big power, huge strikeout player, much like Adam Dunn or Russel Branyan. I'm not sure whether Beltre was juiced or not, he never seemed to get much bigger, so i suspect it was just because of the contract year that he dominated. kgbaseball
So is Beltre baseball's version of the NBA's Tim Thomas? ;)
The_Jerk
The NBA has dozens of players like that, all working hard for one year to get that long-term guarenteed contract, then they come back to earth...and suck. But that's why you never see that in the NFL (no guaranteed contracts) and hardly ever in the NHL.
