Greatest Rappers/Album of all time

Recommended Posts

I am far from an expert on rap but most of the albums listed all came out since 1994 or so until the present.....no old school represented?

The roots of rap, or spoken word goes all the way back to the 1920's in which it was used in musicals, broadway and in the blues. Some prominent blues song with rap elements in them and my two favorites are Louis Jordan "What's the use of getting sober" and my man Bo Diddley "Say Man".

What usually makes a hit rap song is the hook line usually sang by someone other than the rapper so my all time favorite is Kurtis Blow's "Basketball". As far as talent I always thought Treacherous Three were the best I have heard. But i won't descredit Tupac's talent he was the most interesting personality of my generation.

By far the best rapper of all time is Tupac. Not because of his rapping ability, but because of what he stood for. At least before his Death Row days. The industry destroyed Tupac. Other than him, probably Immortal Technique is the realist.

I'm not a huge fan of rap but I like some types that aren't all sex and drugs. Here's a couple

Fort Minor - The Rising Tied

Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liqour

Ya, these 2 albums are very good. I like Fort Minor's "Where'd you go" and Lupe Fiasco's "Kick, Punch"

The lyrics are very powerful....

Let me tell you the story in the form of a dream,

I don't know why I have to tell it but I know what it means,

Close your eyes, just picture the scene,

As I paint it for you, it was World War II

Great song.

This is one of the most amazing hip hop songs I've ever heard. Kenji by Fort Minor. About Japanese internment during WWII. Powerful, chilling lyrics.

Awesome song, it really brings you into the story.

I've always been a rock fan as well and I've liked Linkin Park for mainly the rock side but they really made a couple of good hip hop songs on their Reanimation album. The best has to be H!Vltg3 (High Voltage) featuring Pharoahe Monch. It surprised me for sure.

Anyone heard 300 Bars and Runnin-Game. It pretty old, but one of the greatest diss tracks of all time. And longest.
300 bars wasnt good at all its was just a bunch of jibber jabber words in 18 minutes or w/e no were near the greatest diss track

The best diss track other than Mama Said Knock You Out is...

Royce Da 5'9" - Malcom X

I'm surpised Bizzare didn't hurt himself after that.

Damn, Royce is slept on bad. He's one of the best in the game and should be recognized as one, well, he will be when the 07 album drops, but he should be now. :?

Most influential, yes. Best? No. The fact that Ice Cube wrote 90% of his lyrics automatically removes him from any best rappers list.

And everyone knows the best diss track is Hit 'em Up, closely followed by South Bronx. Front and get laughed at.
