UncleMo
I bought an x800 pro 256mb video card from ebay, but what came in the mail is an rx800 pro 256mb. I can not find the difference between the two online. Does anyone have a clue? (I was wondering why the price of the card was 40 bucks cheaper). link to item purchased: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMEWN%3AIT&rd=

RAM
mo only thing i can see is the rx800 is an ati card manufactured by other companies- like sapphire, or msi etc. and would be the same card. looking at the ebay listing i thought it looked like a true ati card. what does the box say? it's hard to keep up with all these cards nowadays. RaptorQuiz
The seller you bought from has had some negative (and 'neutral') feedback that includes: "Sent me the wrong item. I didn't want to pay for re-shipping, so I'll keep it" "Item misrepresented, high shipping price, did get refund for item ONLY" "Descrip misleading, not a Dell card, had to hunt for drivers. Good transaction" and "wanted replacement card, issued a refund.out $30.00 shipping and no card.bad deal" Of course... they also have hundreds (literally) of positive replies for each one of these negatives It does seem that misleading descriptions are the common thread in their (few) complaints... well, that and a lot of people were complaining about high shipping costs. RAM
ebay sellers charge high shipping fees because ebay doesn't charge them for the shipping costs they get. ebay just charges a percentage of the closing bid. so if they sell an item for $2 they only give ebay a percentage of that $2. if they charge $20 on top of that for S&H they keep all that cash and ebay gets nothing. i don't use ebay anymore unless it's something really rare. ebay is definitely not the cheapest place to get things, and ebay sellers prey on impulsive buyers and bidders- i know i used to be a power seller. if you look hard enough and aren't in a huge rush you always find it cheaper (sometimes a LOT cheaper) at a real etailer. and MO, what does the physical card say? does it have an MSI logo or something imprinted on the card itself? if it does it's the same card but, you probably overpaid for it in the end. i'd probably raise hell over it myself if it's not specifically stated in the auction listing that it isn't a true ati branded card- i just glanced over the auction real quick. brutushayesosu
I tend to stay away from power sellers. They dont care about feedback once they reach that status. I got the x600 off ebay from a guy for $40.
maxbjr
I used to work for an online company that sells at an e-bay store. We're were pretty honest but not always . Electronics, computor parts more over, are the biggest scam product on e-bay. You got a ATI card manufactured by another company. This happens alot, most GeForce cards on e-bay are advertised as the real thing but you get a secondary manufacters card fron somewhere in Asia usually. If the card you receaved works, you got lucky. Go to somewhere like tigerdirect.com where you get exactly what is advertised.
UncleMo
I used to use the: My kid needs a heart transplant, please buy" line. Just kidding. The box literally looks like it is indeed an ATI RADEON card, not MSI or Sapphire, for example. It does look like some generica type of ATI RADEON box that I've never seen before in my life. It is smaller and compact. Now I finally opened it up and it does not specify inside what card it is, unless it is in the manual. The card itself does have the ATI logo on it and not MSI. Meh. I think I have to leave nuetral feedback. I'd appreciate more integrity so I won't be surprised at what I got. Thank you all very much.
RAM
I tend to stay away from power sellers. They dont care about feedback once they reach that status. I got the x600 off ebay from a guy for $40. i always cared about getting and giving feedback. and i was always honest. it's just that there are certain ways to word things that will get people to buy. it's advertising. you have to reach a certain amount of monetary sales numbers per month vs. and maintain a certain positive feedback ratio to be a power seller in the first place. so i think the large percentage of them are honest and reliable. a lot of power sellers are so swamped with orders though it just takes them forever to leave feedback. but, there are a few that are bad about it. there are some that hold feedback for "ransom"- won't leave feedback until the buyer does first. THEN tjhere are some sellers that AREN'T power sellers and counterfeit the power seller logo onto their auction pages. i on the other hand would leave feedback as soon as i shipped the item out. it may have gotten worse in the past couple of years- i never go on ebay at all anymore. ebayers a lot of times are addicted to bidding and will bid no matter what to win- no matter the final cost. other ebayers are just uninformed consumers who believe that just because it's on ebay means it HAS to be cheaper than anywhere else. every now and then you WILL get something cheaper there but, unless it's a rare or discontinued item, a used item or just worthless junk, you can almost always find it cheaper at a real online store. you just have to look. RAM
just ship everything quickly. if you make a mistake apologize quickly and fix it fast. it can get crazy after the ball gets rolling i would run to the post office on my lunch break with backpacks full of stuff to ship. buy your shipping stuff online or if you're doing priority mail use the postal stuff that's free. if you're sshipping small items don't pay priority charges- put the items in smaller envelopes and ship first class priority. it'll get there in about 3 days for 1/3 the price. always leave feedback. if someone really screws you wait until the 90th day to post negative feedback that way they can't respond or retaliate. they may have changed that... when you list my favorite tactic was to find a fine line where if they bought the item with the buy it now option they would get free shipping. i looked at the competetion's final cost including shipping and would roll shipping into the final cost and underut the competetion by $1. for instance (i sold dvds) a competitor was selling a movie for $10 plus $5.95 for shipping = $15.95. i would start the auction @ $10 but list a buy it now of $14 and free shipping. if they choose not to buy it now they would pay final bid plus $5.95 shipping. first class US s&h on a regular dvd was about $1.20- not including shipping materials and gas. once you start selling a lot try to pick one or 2 days a week to ship everything. if you have repeat customers send them emails giving them 10% off their next item ordered. try to learn html really well to snazz up your auction listings. offer international shipping but add $10-15 (depending on the item weight) to the final closing price on top of US postal costs but, make sure you list clearly that the buy it now option is for canadian and US buyers only. so not only are they paying $10-$15 for shipping but they're paying the $5.95 shipping as well. lots of sellers don't want to ship overseas but, they're turning away a lot of business on small items. don't wory about a negative feedback- when you deal with hundreds or thousands of people it's inevitable. you cannot avoid it. even the best businesses have complaints against them by someone who is NEVER satisfied. EDIT- oh and try to keep as many auctions as possible running at the same time always. i always had at least 100 auctions always running... BigDom
i hated the fact that people were selling XBOX 360's on ebay for double the price and then they didnt even have them in their hand yet... it was simply rediculous... I had to win five auctions before someone didnt lie, saying they had it in their hands... i even went to their house to pick it up...

BigDom
RAM, when you bought from a wholesaler how many was the minimum of the same dvd did you have to but to get a good deal
RAM
RAM, when you bought from a wholesaler how many was the minimum of the same dvd did you have to but to get a good deal it depends on the wholesaler i used 2 main ones navarre and vpn. you don't really have to order a certain amount of a single dvd to get a discount though, i think it was vpn who had a minimum of a $50- $100 order. navarre had no minimum i think. the thing is is that the wholesale dvds weren't a whole lot cheaper than at the stores BUT this was back when dvds weren't as big as they are now. so the stores carried mostly mainstream movies. i was selling a lot of cult horror films, 80's flicks, foreign films etc. that the retailers wouldn't touch. anyhow on an average dvd i may only make $4-5 profit but when you sell 1000 of them in a month that adds up to $5000 a month income! then every now and then you'd get like a collectors item. i remember i somehow got the hologram cover collectors edition of halloween for like $12 and i was selling them like hotcakes for around $75 apiece! i had a few like that... anyhow once dvds got huge i stopped because i couldn't compete with walmart selling friday the 13th for $4.99 anymore. one of the things new ebay sellers try to do is make big money right away. sometimes it works. but it's hard to buy big stuff to sell. i always believed if you can sell tons of little things and make a dollar or 2 profit on each thing is where you really clean up. look at some of those sellers selling cheesy plastic key chains or glow sticks or whatever for $2 apiece. they probably paid 10 cents for each item and they're selling thousands each month and laughing all the way to the bank... RAM
probably. i always say to try and find something to sell that you're into. i'm a huge movie buff so it was a no-brainer to me. i thought about selling pc components for a while after the dvd thing slowed down but, it's tough making money that way- at least it was then- i couldn't find a supplier i could get to sell me processors and stuff for a good enough price. i think for that you really have to buy a ton of items. so i got out of it all and moved on. i learned a lot about ebay though... RAM
something you can keep a running list of 100 auctions at all times. i knew a couple back in san antonio- they went to discount stores (marshall's, ross) and bought clearance priced curtains. they were both lawyers. now they do nothing but sell curtains on ebay. i knew someone else who sold those glow necklaces and bracelets like you buy at the carnivals and stuff. they were cleaning up... look at it this way would you rather sell one big item and make $200 profit on that one item a month. or sell 1000 impulse items and make $2 profit on each item per month. do the math. check out what people are selling on ebay. i've actually thought about buying a silk screen press in the next year and start making t shirts and selling them on ebay. i'd like to do that in the next year or so. MancrushOnNomar
I've recently been selling a few little things. Mostly posters and movie trailers from work (I manage a movie theatre). I get all the stuff for free, so everything I make on the auctions is extra money. I recently started shipping overseas. Most trailers go for about $5, but I shipped one to UK and it sold for almost $30.
