MVP 06 Complaint Dept.

This process would go alot easier if new members had some kind of logical starting point to access information on the mod. That would cut off alot of the negative environment right from the start. If the major problem is seen as the asking of stupid questions. Make so there is no excuse to be asking the stupid questions. As it stands now, I completely empathize with people who ask these stupid questions. People who get [naughty word] at them for asking aren't helping the community either. Just like you think people should be greatful for having this mod, you should also be greatful people are intrested in it. Otherwise what would be the point in putting effort into something you don't want to share with others?

Member Joins Site

Can't find the information needed

Asks what may be considered a stupid question

Burnt out mod/member insults them

new member is offended and attacks mod

Mod wins, rinse wash repeat.

Couldn't agree more, it seems you are the only one on this site who has an sense at all!

Can't find the information needed

Asks what may be considered a stupid question

only because they refuse to use the forum search

that may be the case is some cases, but not all cases.

for instance, just now i tried to search for the "competition move the marlins" thread, b/c i wanted to see what had been posted in there recently.

I tried using the search function, but it kept coming back with 31,000+ posts. I tried using it with quotes in the search, without quotes in the search, using the word AND in between each word, and I never got less than 15,000+ posts. Instead of wasting 2 hours going through each search result I just gave up.

You could see how this would tend to cause people to ask the same questions over and over again, b/c it is very very very hard to actually find what you search for.

WHAT

I searched for"competition move the marlins"

here is what I got

search0eg.png

Weird how Kraw could find it, but you couldn't...

Not everything is going to be easy to find...but all anyone asks for is an honest effort. Make the same MVP 06 thread, when there is a half a dozen on the same page is foolish.

...and "KillJoy" Kraw?:

we all try our best to make the site as user friendly as possible. the search function is a common problem because many users insist on not using it correctly. as kraw pointed out above if used CORRECTLY it is very useful.

about the flame wars: they are a part of every forum. actually a lot of the flame wars here are between long time members. in many ways even though we have never met we're like a huge dysfunctional family. we get over it and move on. flaming of new members is also something that goes on IN EVERY FORUM on the web. point me to one where it doesn't happen. i myself TRY to refrain from it but, sometimes enough is enough.

all of us here do what we do VOLUNTARILY and we all have lives outside of this. however, if the site isn't up to anyones standards your membership here is voluntary as well. you have the right to move onto another site that meets your criteria. or better yet, go out, and build a model site that we can strive to become.

and i think searching for and finding 27,000+ posts is an honsest effort. but this site is filled w/numerous threads where people have put in an "honest effort" to search for and find the answers to their questions, and the response to their posts are nothing but condescending remarks.

30,000 members here. That is like a small town or a village, not everyone is going to get along...but when the Beta Version of the mod came out, we were bombarded with what seemed like thousands of "noobies" who were/are only here for said mod. Those "noobs" are part of the "gimme generation", which Snepp and I have touched upon before. For every five "noobs from the Gimme Genration", we get one good one! Some of the noobs like JoeyMcIntyre, and DUnit have become great members of this site. While others like LetsGoAngels and MrBaseball have quickly disapeered.

"Noobs" just need to come on this site, and enjoy the experience. Every mod that is released is a labour of love from these guys, and they release them for free. The modders do not owe anyone anything, least of all the new guys coming on demanding the mod or release date.

fact of the matter is that MOST members complaining about the search engine are the same people who ask for answers elsewhere that a simple google search would turn up. they are either too lazy or don't know how to use search terms to filter results.

i'm not flaming anybody but, we have thousands of members here, and thousands of threads in the database. we have to commit ourselves to the majority of those things going on here not the 1% of members who can't figure out how to use the search function.

I would agree with you that there are some "noobs" that come on here with an attitude of gimme this and gimme that and I want it now and I want it to work 100% perfectly and I want it to be seamlessly integrated into my game. But on the other hand there are "noobs" (like myself) who come on here, are in awe of the work being done on the game, and want to bring to life some of the creations they have dreamed up. But when they seek out help, some (not all) modders give a "holier than thou" attitude, or just offer up belittling comments. But there are some that do try and help to the best of their ability, and are actually very helpful. I'm not one of the gimme this and gimme that "noobs", to be honest if the Final version is never released it's ok with me. I have the beta, and I update constantly. (Not to say that I wouldn't be appreciative of a Final Version, but as many have said, by downloading a few different things you have 99% of the Final) The "noobs" that come on here demanding this and demanding that are the ones that have helped create this ridge that has escalated into a major topic.

I agree with you, and by no means was I comparing you to one of the "noobs" who seem to be clueless.

Well said djeagles11,

I personally try to just sit back and wait patiently

Although I am a noob, I do read through the forums and can appreciate what these guys are doing

No need to harrass them like some have been

This really is a large community and in large communities there are always people who will start problems

The more new people who can have respect and courtisy for these modders and the rest of the people on the boards, the better the community will be and instead of having to tell people to stop re posting the same thing, we can all answer eachother's questions and make this game even more enjoyable

BINGO! That's exactly it in one paragraph. I just wish I had written this in the thread I made this morning (you know, the locked one.)

You know, I don't mind new people joining in here and slowly becoming a part of things in here. Heck, we were all new at one time. I especially like the noobs that make a post commenting about the variety of mods we have here. Some of these guys are astonished that there are updated rosters and stadiums, just to name two things. They are so thrilled about this that they fit in over time with no problem. Those are the guys I like. The other guys that come in here are the people DJ talked about. And I think "gimmee generation" says it all. The more I think about it the more I see it is a perfect description.

We may be the "gimme generation" but that doesn't mean we are all like that. In every generation there are individuals who don't follow the trend. And if being an ungrateful SOB is one of those trends, I hope to god I'm one of those individuals. Believe me, I put this game away for a year and the sole reason I came back to it, and now love it more than ever, is this site. Not only is the game better, but my time on the internet is too. Like DJ said we have the equivalent amount of people as a community, and I'm lucky to feel as though I am a part of that. I live in Canada, which very heavily hockey oriented, so being with a bunch of people who enjoy baseball as much as I do really brings a smile to my face. So I must Thank everyone who has done something posotive on this site, whether it me modding, moderating, or even just a post worth reading, and also to the admins who made it all possible, my hats off to you...

It's more like this.....

1. Member Joins Site

2. Doesn't bother to look for information

3. Asks what IS a stupid question because of #2

4. Burnt out mod/member has to repeat themselves for the 100th time

5. New member gets insulted and starts whining like a baby

6. Mod wins, cycle repeats

Even a stickied/locked/faq/dev journal/update thread won't take care of it, there are too many people that will not bother to read it, or will read it and STILL post the same asinine questions and "gimme gimme gimme" comments.

The problem goes far beyond a status thread. The problem is the gimme generation, instant gratification required or there's going to be hell to pay.

The solution to this particular problem? Either get rid of the internet or quit reproducing entirely. :?

we all try our best to make the site as user friendly as possible. the search function is a common problem because many users insist on not using it correctly. as kraw pointed out above if used CORRECTLY it is very useful.

These posts, along with a lot of what djeagles and krawhitham posted, should be required reading for joining the forum.

The cold, hard facts are that there are simply a lot of greedy, inconsiderate users now joining that don't have think they should actually have to read the forum announcements and rules etc., which leads to them not searching for information before making yet another "when will the mod be out ok lol thanks" post. The fact that these people are actually surprised when they are laughed at, insulted, or told to actually use the features provided for them is hilarious. That's not to say that every member should be insulted, that's just saying that for the long-serving members here, it can get incredibly annoying to answer a question so many times.

You have to do a certain amount of work for yourself if you want the mod. If you don't like that, that's your problem. Don't start complaining about it when you're riduculed for being a lazy buffoon with the attention span of the average gnat.
