Carolina wins

As a resident of Connecticut, this one kinda hurts :(. If the Whalers didn't go to Carolina ten years ago we would have had the Cup!

Ah yes, the Hartford Whalers... went to Carolina after 1997. Ron Francis was the brief, shining light for a franchise that only had 3 winning seasons in... what? 18 years? yuck. :eew:

I'm so happy the Whalers are gone. Jeez, they used to beat up the Rangers like it was nobodies buisness.

Are you KIDDING? I found it so doubtful that the Whalers ever "beat up" anybody on a regular basis, I looked it up... they were 23-26-6 lifetime against the Rangers.

It was a team that played in a freaking shopping mall ! They never had a chance, and that ownership group never spent any money, so if they had stayed, they wouldn't have won the cup this year.

Well, whatever might have happened had they stayed, there are still guys around here (many of whom never saw a game) who have "Brass Bonanza" as their ringtone. Even though our state has the third smallest land area in the Union, we somehow feel entitled to a mojor league sports franchise. Bob Kraft added insult to injury by screwing us with false hopes so he could get a new taxpayer-financed stadium in Foxboro. Over the years there have been attempts to move the NBA Grizzlies, the MLB Expos, and now the NHL Penguins to Hartford, which also boasts one of the highest murder rates for a city of its size in the nation. We can't even get a AAA team to come here! I guess we should stick to watching UConn basketball, which has distinguised itself with the lowest athlete graduation rate of any college in the country.

Oh, and if you think the Civic Center is bad, check out the New Haven Coliseum, to be imploded next year.

An arena inside a parking garage (my dad actually used to park there for work). Architecture students were brought in from all over the country to study as an example of bad design. Interestingly enough, the WNBA Connecticut Sun play in an arena inside a casino.
