NCMALEN
Ok, I need some help. I've read a few different topics from search results and nothing seems to match my issue. I'm getting the "mvp2005.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" crash to the desktop. It is happening in-game. I've played numerous error message free games up until now, but 2 things have changed in my setup: 1- I installed Francisco Liriano's and Johan Santana's cyberfaces using kraw's installer into models.big, and mvpedit to change the face# for Liriano. No problem exporting rosters back or playing with Twins. 2- I'm playing on a laptop (which again had no issues for the first 2 months I've played the game), BUT my "visual options" changed in my profile. I've got an "integrated graphics" setup on my laptop, and previously have been unable to adjust settings off of "low" for player detail, etc. NOW, I have been able to adjust those to low-medium-high. I have a feeling this is probably the problem. 3- I'm not concerned about my system config for my laptop. It should be able to run the game fine. Here's also my game setup: Patches 1-5 all installed UR 6.5+ with Moser models.big MD Datafile v3.1 Trues Fox Overlay A few various stadiums modded Thanks for any input... big shmooz
Do you have your models.big set to read only?
NCMALEN
Do you have your models.big set to read only? Yes it is Shmooz. I haven't looked at it in a while, since I downloaded and have been using the Moser file since before the brief period that models.big wasn't available. The game won't UNCHECK read-only for you, will it?
big shmooz
The game won't. However, what made me think of this possibility, is that you said you installed some faces. I don't see how you can do that if the file is read only. I would advise you therefore to make sure it is in read only mode.
NCMALEN
Ahhh...good point Shmooz. I didn't think of that. So, I'd get an error message installing faces with Kraw's installer, or I'd have to recheck "read only" after installing faces?
big shmooz
You would have to recheck it after installing the faces. (unless it was never unchecked & then it would mean that you never actually installed the 2 faces) Go in windows explorer & look at the properties of the models.big file & see if the read only is checked or not. If it's not, you very likely have a corrupt models.big. (which may be the cause of your problems) You can test this out by opening the file in biggui & seeing if you have any files that are decompressed. If yes, you know that your file is corrupted. Just reinstall the models.big you downloaded in that case to fix your problem. & always make sure the file stays in read only when you are not installing anything to it. NCMALEN
I'll give it a shot...thanks a lot. Do you know if that would also cause some game stuttering?
stecropper
big shmooz, This is very useful information. Thanks. Are there any other files within the game that should be returned to "Read Only" after installing mods? What is the best/safest way to recompress a models.big file once some of the entries have become uncompressed? This could be the cause of some of the sporadic crashes I experience, I would imagine, since I never reset models.big to "Read Only". Thanks Again & Take Care, Don
big shmooz
I'll give it a shot...thanks a lot. Do you know if that would also cause some game stuttering? I don't think so. Game stuttering would probably be caused by the graphics being too taxing on your video card or cpu. Also, it will happen if you do not have patch 2 or above installed. (in your case this is not an issue since you said you do have patches installed)
snepp
Do you know if that would also cause some game stuttering? Do you have a patch installed? If you do have a patch installed, do you have Vsync enabled in the video options? Edit: Just noticed you do have a patch installed. Second question still applies. This could be the cause of some of the sporadic crashes I experience, I would imagine, since I never reset models.big to "Read Only". Thanks Again & Take Care, Don As far as I know, that's the only file that the contents seem to decompress in. Once cyberface files have become decompressed, (uniform files are alright even if they are decompressed, though I personally always try to make sure they are also compressed at all times) your models.big is corrupt. You may try reinstalling (if you happen to have somewhere on your hard drive) the particular cyberface files that became corrupt. But I don't guarantee that this solution will work. This is why it's important to always keep it in read only mode. The only solution I can suggest for you if the above idea is not feasible for you, is reinstall the models.big again. (I know it's a pain, but you basically are up the creek without a paddle here) If you are using a version of the models.big you downloaded or you just want your normal models.big on the CD, it should be pretty easy to reinstall. NCMALEN
Snepp, after reading a few other threads on the subject, I checked vsync and it was enabled. I'll double check though. As with Schmooz's suggestion, I'll check again also on models.big.
NCMALEN
Update 1- models.big was NOT checked "read only." Not sure how that happened, as I vividly remember checking it after reading the readme with the models.big. I still have it saved, but I'll probably just download the new one for use with UR+ 7.0 and reinstall. We'll assume that works for now, and I'll play on the lowest possible video card settings. Thanks snepp..schmooz...

Gordo
I'm not sure if this will help or not, but I posted a fairly similar problem in a recent similar thread, but it was with overwriting a fresh (but patched #3) install of the game and import All-Timer rosters. I was getting crashes to the desktop as the loading bar was filling, so never got into the game. I tried the read-only check as suggested here to no avail. Then I thought that maybe the registry key somehow wasn't liking that the game wasn't as installed and VOILA! After removal I've gotten into a game and so far so good, but still have some testing to do. Dunno if this falls under the same category as your problem....but I guess check all of your options. Gordo
I take back what I said.....it seems team related, not registry related. So I guess it's models or profiles or portraits related....not sure.
NCMALEN
daflyboys, thanks for the input. I was getting the crash in the middle of the games, like the 3rd or 4th inning on a random ground ball or flyout. The issue is either models.big related or my graphics card, so I'll try those first. NCMALEN
Update 2- #1- downloaded BigGUI, all models.big files were marked "yes (uncompressed)." Compressed all files in models.big. Tried to play a game: crashed to desktop during the game loading screen. #2- re-extracted models.big (downloaded around UR+ 6.5 release) from the .rar and overwrote models.big, to have a fresh models.big that wasn't corrupted possibly. Also toned down video options to player detail low to minimize stress on the graphics, and turned OFF V-sync. Tried to play a game: game was in hyperspeed mode. #3- Turned back on V-sync. Game played fine, but had really messed up cyberfaces (aliens, "christmas" players, etc.) At this point, I think I just download a new models.big after downloading the UR+ 7.0 when it's releaseed and hopefully that works. Sorry for the long post, but hopefully I'm solving someone else's problem too.

Thanks snepp..schmooz... I am guessing that it happened by using the installer to install the 2 cyberface files you installed. It probably unchecked your models.big from read only to allow it to install the files. Just make sure in the future that if you install any files, always put it back to read only & you should be fine.

Sorry for the long post, but hopefully I'm solving someone else's problem too. Actually if it said "yes" it means the files were COMPRESSED. Secondly, never use biggui to compress your files. It's a terrible program for compression. Use eazip instead. (of course in order to do that, you would have to first extract the files from the models.big to a folder together with eazip & a bat file to run eazip) Then use eagraph to insert the files. This info is all available in my 2nd readme in the models.big download. (including precise details on how to do all this) Anyway, as I posted previously, if the files are decompressed, chances are they are corrupted. So reinserting those same files back after you compress them will not really help. As far as issue number 3, this has to do a bit with the rosters themselves. Some faces that are 05 faces in fact say yes to 04. This issue will be fixed when 7.0 comes out. The other problem is that some faces are missing the metal bin & name binary files in the .fsh. I am trying to figure out to how to get them in there without causing the game to actually crash afterward when I go to those players I fixed. Btw... if anybody knows how to do this, please post this info. Thanks.
NCMALEN
Yeah shmooz, I figured BigGui wasn't the best option, but I thought'd I'd give it a shot before overwriting models.big again. Like I said, the 7.0 models.big and UR 7.0+ will hopefully solve the issues.
big shmooz
One more thing... the missing texture wording (that's what the lettering actually says on the corrupt faces) can sometimes be fixed (at least temporarily) by exiting the game completely & then going back in.
