I hate school.

Recommended Posts

For the past 3 days, I have been having trouble attaining my high school diploma, and the way I've been getting the runaround is annoying me and I am about to explode.

After my old high school, I attended a program at another school to help me get my credits to graduate, seeing as I was 2 credits short, and the classes were not offered in my old school. So I ended up getting the 2 credits via Health and Foreign Language. Now, because I am not a daytime student at the school I was attending, I had to go to my old school to get my diploma. I traveled out to get my diploma and I was told to come tomorrow.

So Thursday comes, and I walk in to my old school expecting to get my diploma. Once I went there, they took a look at my transcript, and out of nowhere, I was told that I needed documentation that says I passed health because it is not shown on my transcript. So I traveled back to the new school and spoke to my counselor about it, and he typed up a letter stating that the permanent records (also known as my transcript) are still in the process of being updated, however I have passed the health class that is not shown in the transcript. That's what was told in the letter, typed and signed by my counselor.

I head on back to my old school, and it turns out the people who I spoke to before had left. I wake up early today and head back down to my old school. I hand them the letter, and instead of saying, "alright, so they will update your transcript, here is your diploma", and I would be merrily on my way home, they insisted I bring in an updated transcript. I was beginning to feel even more aggravated and annoyed, as the letter specifically states that the transcripts are in the process of being updated, which would imply my inability to get an updated version 'on the fly', and the class that is not noted on the transcript was mentioned and it was said that I had passed that class.

Annoyed, I took my documents and stormed out the building. I got angry because not only did I not get my diploma, but I have been going back and forth from school to school trying to get information and instead of them calling up and discussing this issue, they're having me go back and forth with this nonsense. Within 3 days, I believe I've spent over 16 dollars in transit fare, seeing as none of the bus lines or subway lines are able to connect both schools together, it takes long to get around. It's ridiculous.

So basically, I graduated, I attended the ceremony, I did everything, and I still haven't gotten my diploma. Recently I have registered for classes at the New York City College of Technology, as I will be majoring in Electromechanical Engineering. Earlier in the year I was scheduled to go into the Katherine Gibbs School, however due to me having to take classes over, I withdrew from the college and went elsewhere. It is ridiculous how they are trying to screw me over big time.

I don't need to be going back and forth when it's not my fault my transcript isn't updated, and this irresponsibility is what will end up making me miss out on college seeing as I have to provide a high school diploma prior to the start of classes, which will be august 30th, and they want me to pick up my diploma after august 31st, and I hate having to look stupid handing something in real late.

Who do you think is to blame, and what do you guys suggest I do? I've tried calling the District Office, and I have yet to get a call back from those fools...

It's the School districts fault. They didn't update the transcript. They should have all of your records up to date. I don't know much legal stuff, but would you be able to sue them? The school district should owe you something because your missing out on college.

Hey, I'm going into Electrical Engineering at Umass Lowell this fall :D

I hope you have better luck in that school then you are having in here because you are gone as of right now for 90 days.

BoSoxFan is also mfskratch. Oh well, these people think the rules don't pertain to them.

Now let's all give him a nice goodbye, ok? Oh, and good luck in school!

That had nothing to do with my thread, but anyway, I called the district office up, and they didn't tell me anything other than a "we'll call later this afternoon, or on monday"

What a hassle. Stupid Govt. monopoly is what public education k-12 has become. You really want to get a feel for what is really going on in public education read ABC's 20/20 John Stossel's new book. It's called Myths, Lies and Downright Stupidity: Get Out the Shovel--Why Everything You Know is Wrong.

Long title but he covers alot of ground and makes alot of sense, especially about Education. Check it out.

What a dumb system.

Back in the UK, the universities get your final marks electronically before you do, so by the time you get your resuts, they are already expecting you.

good luck to both of you in engineering , it is EXTREMELY difficult especially when "the man" asks you to memorize hundreds of formulas , doesn't permit you to use the calculator on exams , and forces you to go to hours and hours of useless Matlab programming sessions. I cringe at the thought of my days as an engineer.

BTW which college are you entering?

The only thing more annoying than that is when I got arrested for something I didn't do and ended up being in jail for a week.. everyday I had to go back-and-forth to court and they kept pushing it back even though I had someone there to bail me out

If, for some reason, anyone goes to Western Carolina Univ. this year, sign up for the Eng. 101 class taught by "STAFF." That's me.

This site is like an engineers convention.

Must be something to do with a love of computer games and engineering or something. If only I was a sociologist, I could do a thesis or something.

is ENG Engineering or English...lol

STAFF = Teaching Assistant / Grad Student? That's what STAFF usually means in the Virginia Tech class system.

An update....

As the summer winds down, I am kind of stuck between high school and college. The transition has been kind of mentally exhausting, given the fact that I have yet to have my diploma handed to me or mailed to me, and the process of attaining that diploma has been really hard. I'm never really the kind of person to quit, because with the grades that I have, it is impossible for me to not get my diploma. I've made it this far, what's the use of giving up now?

I'm going to be trying to contact the counselor from my high school concerning this issue, because I withdrew from the college I was supposed to be attending this semester due to this issue, and I am unable to attend classes because of my financial aid and etc. I wish everything could be over soon, but it is really hard. I'm not even motivated to move on to college now because of all this crap I've been getting from both my old and new high school.

Oh, and the No Child Left Behind Act is a joke. Look at where I am now.

I'm stuck between 12th grade and being a freshman at college. It's hard seeing all my friends advance their lives as they move on to college while I am stuck here seeing others progressing while I'm not doing anything because of circumstances beyond my control. I wish there was something I could do, but there isn't, really.

I'll keep you guys posted this week on my status, but until then, it's the "KC vs The Board of Education".

Keep your head up Kc!

"I'm going to be trying to contact the counselor from my high school concerning this issue"

This is a good place to start he/she may be able to help you communicate with the college as well. If it doesn't get done then you should go see, not just make an appointment, with the school principal. If that doesn't expidite things call the district and ask to talk to the District Superintendent he/she my have an open door policy you might be surprised. And remember don't get mad (or at least don't show it) and always be cool to the secretaries they're the ones that get it done! LOL!

I had a student, a very good student that got lazy (partying) and ended up failing my class (first class she ever failed). I was shocked, her parents were seriously pissed at her, she was so freaked! So I asked her straight up, "are you going to die from this?" Now I'm pretty cool (or at least that's what you guys say to my face) but I'm a pretty challenging teacher so she and her parents looked at me stunned when I asked. She kind of laughed and said "no", I looked at her parents and asked if they were going to kill her over this, after a second of thought....they laughingly said no. Ok, so we all know we are going to live through this unhappy little situation so where do we go now, lets talk about how this happend, how to avoid it again and focus on some options not just the consequences.

So what are your options Kc? Keep me updated.

Oh, and I call it "Every Teacher & Child Left Behind"

brewdog has a point, years ago I got in touch with John McCain's office, one of our state representatives, about an issue and it was resolved the next day! Oh and kennyAss is probably right about the district being at fault but suing or even threating to sue a financially strapped educational system is absolutely moronic and it doesn't help anyone nor will it win any friends that may feel bad for your situation and wish to help. You start talking about suing everybody and no one will want to help you. If they owe you anything it is to take responsibility for the major inconvenience that was cuased and to help clean up any mess with the college if they can.

This is late, but yeah...I'm a TA English instructor. Four classes into the semester. Doing well so far except for the kid that sleeps and doesn't turn work in. Oh well, he fails.
