Preseason Report: Hopes a-Brewing in Milwaukee

BY TOM HAUDRICOURT

The Brewers have not been in the brightest limelight in a while.( Okay, in a Loooong while) However, with Rickie Weeks and Prince Fielder the Brewers may have an opportunity to shine in the limelight. They went .500 last year so they should be able to run after they wild card with the development of Weeks, Fielder, and ace pitcher Ben Sheets will have to avoid injuries.

Key Player: Carlos Lee. If he has a performance like last year, we may be looking at the next Robin Yount.

Starting Pitchers for Opening Day Released!

It seems like on opening day we will have Ben Sheets going up against Oliver Perez.

I'll Re-sign him. Unless I can get some terrific young talent.

Brewers Slip By

BY TOM HAUDRICOURT

Brewers:1 Pirates:0

The Milwaukee Brewers have won their first game. The Pirates had more hits but could not drive in any runs. Oliver Perez had a terrific performance, but could not help a bases loaded sac-fly in the 5th inning. Neither team could get an extra base hit. The Brewers fielding looked very sharp as Carlos Lee made multiple diving grabs. Danny Kolb's relief in the 8th and 9th was needed as Sheets was hanging pitches poorly.

Ned Yost. " Dan [Kolb] was really looking strong. We had Turnbow warming up but we let Kolb finish the 9th."

Hot Player- Rickie Weeks- 2 for 4. He started off 2 for 2 but cooled down after the 5th. He dropped a diving catch, but picked up the ball and threw to first to get Sean Casey out after he rounded first, and turned back.

Cold Player- Damian Miller-0 for 3. He struck out twice.

Sorry. Forgot to take screen shots.

Yeah, Prince usually bats 5th and Damian Miller Bats right before Clark which bats 8th. A lineup should go like this...

Weeks

Hardy

Koskie

Lee

Fielder

Jenkins

Miller

Clark

Pitcher

Thank you. I shall institute these changes by game 3 of Pirates series.

Brewers Get Thumped 7-0

By TOM HAUDRICOURT:

Doug davis gave up 5 earned runs, including a Jeromy Burnitz 3 run shot.

mvp20052006070710111914small1u.png

Dan Kolb Gave up a 2 run shot in the 8th to Humberto Cota. Make it 7-0

mvp20052006070710255462small7t.png

Kip Wells threw a complete game Shutout

mvp20052006070710273335small1a.png

Hot Player: Kip Wells. SHO. 1K. 8H

Cold Player: Geoff Jenkins. Has yet to get a hit all season.

Verdict: I guess It's not all bad. Rickie Weeks went 2 for 3 and is batting .571. The brewers need a stronger pitching staff, and their hitting was dismal as they couldn't drive in one run in 8 hits. Prince Fielder grounded into a double play while the bases were juiced to end the inning.

Brewers Relief Blows it!

Chris Capuano pitched great. The relief blew the game.

Jeromy Burnitz won this game for The Pirates again with a 3 run shot.

mvp20052006070715423801wince8e.png

Best Player: Rickie Weeks. 4 for 5.

Cold Player: Dana Eveland. Gave up the game losing home run

Geoff Jenkins: Yet to get a hit

Player of the Series: Jeromy Burnitz. Single-handedly won games 2 and 3 for the Bucs.

Brewers Make Changes

BY TOM HAUDRICOURT:

The Brewers have switched their pitching staff around because of the lacking relievers.

Signed: Dan Reichart RP

Promoted from AAA to MLB: Dan Reichart RP

Demoted from MLB to AAA: Justin Lehr RP

Promoted from AAA to MLB: Dave Bush SP

Demoted from MLB to AAA: Rick Helling SP

So the Brewers pitching staff stands as such.

Starting Rotation Relief Pitchers

1. Ben Sheets LRP Dan Reichart

2. Doug Davis LRP Mike Adams

3. Chris Capuano MRP Jorge De la Rosa

4. Tomo Ohka MRP Dana Eveland

5. Dave Bush SU Matt Wise

SU Dan Kolb

CP Derrick Turnbow

We talked to pitching coach Mike Maddux about the recent changes.

Mike:" Our bullpen was horrific. Just terrible.. Derrick [Turnbow] didn't have one CHANCE to save a game. He hasn't made an appearance all season. I have never worked with Dan [Reichart] but he should be a great addition to the 'pen. As for Dave Bush, [he] has deserved this job since day one.

Brewers Lose Again

BY TOM HAUDRICOURT:

Tomo Ohka looked like the big favorite in this matchup.

mvp20052006070808444131wince8a.png vs.mvp20052006070808521756wince0q.png

Carlos Lee hit the Brewers first home run of the season. Damian Miller hit one two ABs later

mvp20052006070900270512custom4.png

But the D'Backs hit 4 home runs and drove in many runs off of base hits.

mvp20052006070900334640custom5.png

Best Player: Luis Gonzalez. 1 HR, 2 RBI. Everytime he stepped to the plate he performed.

Cold Player: Brady Clark. Hasn't wowed anyone except with his ability to whiff.

The verdict: The brewers really flashed their stuff this game. The only downside was Tomo Ohka. Whenever the starting pitcher isn't performing, this team can't win. When Dan Reichart was fresh he was on fire. The Brewers showed they could hit for power. Geoff Jenkins' first hit was a double in this game. Although they may have lost 3 straight, they showed they can win many more to come
