Datafile question regarding hitting.

If anyone is interested. I am trying to create the perfect datafile for realistic results. I know "perfect" is not realistic, but I want to get as close as possible. One problem I am trying to overcome is poor timing on inside pitches being hit too well. It is not terribly off, but needs a slight tweak. If anyone knows what controls or has a factor in this scenerio, please give me your ideas? If anyone wants this datafile to test, please let me know. It is made particularly for: 1)direct IP play 2)allstar level 3)MVP fileding 4)high heat hitter's view as default.

I believe it has to do with the bat width contact section in the datafile. In the datafile there is a section where it gives the virtual bat width. Meaning, up to where the computer will calculate allowing you to connect with a ball based on where the pitch is located when you swing at the ball. The only problem is, you are looking for hitting the ball but just not connecting as solidly. It's probably in there too, but exactly where I am not positive. However I hope that my info will lead to being at least a start for you.

Of course another option might be, to edit the player attributes to give them cold zones in the area you feel they connect too solidly. There may even be such a type of global settings located in the datafile.

Although there is no specific field that I know of controlling this exact situation, there is something very close in the batter/pitcher section which I tweaked. Try 197 BatTimeWindow

default is 0.30, increasing/decreasing affects the timing of cpu batters

the section is under 0x739c0a96 233<batterpitcher>

btw, it's very sensitive.

also note there is a couple fields in the batter's section:

0xf3957227 70<batter>

24 Inside_factor 0.15 (def)

40 Inside_power 0.10 (def)

7 Inside_pos 0.40 (def)

Thanks for the replies here. I think 24 inside factor has to do with the spin off the bat on inside pitches. 40 inside power is self explanatory. Not sure what 7 inside_pos does. 197 BatTime Window, I have (.030). If this is how important timing is or if it decreses the window of opportunity, it may help. Question is: if value is increased, does it make it easier or harder to hit??? I really want to know what 7 inside_pos effects. Kam, the MVP fielding was an awesome idea. It has improved our gameplay tremendously. Honestly, we are so close to having incredible realism. If I can get this inside cheap hit problem fixed, all that would be left is to get the outfielders to not take so long to get rid of the ball on sac flies. If anyone wants the datafile, msg me.

yep Big Shmooz has it right. Although I increased mine to counteract some pitching tweaks, in general I found that cpu pitchers don't miss enough or get too many easy outs and cpu batters dont' take advantage weak pitchers enough, more offense in general was needed to me.

Mvp fielding works great, I find it eliminates that annoying half/step reaction time we were talking about. As for the outfielders taking long to throw on sac flies, there's a reason: it's because the fielder cpu or human actually waits for the umpire to call the batter out. To me it's an oversight on the programmers' end. The delay is cause by the time it takes for the audio & animation to load, which is ridiculous of course.

I've tried to circumvent the problem by making the audio load faster (all the Out audio) and umpire anims, but it doesn't seem to fix it. I spent way too much time on this because it always bugged me.

You'd have to find the umpire animation/audio and actually delete the reference to it in the datafile. Good luck.

Great feedback. Thanks guys. I am going to work with window and see what I find. But what I would like to figure out is, what effect does 7 inside_pos have? My hitting is solid. It is just the inside pitch. When batters are late on the inside pitch, there are too many bloop singles and bleeders causing a slight overload in hits per game. I fixed this problem on outside pitches by shortening the bat length. Just need this inside issue resolved.
