yourhomiejosh
Front Office News- March 15, 2006 - GM Jim Hendry, due to making bad signings and also conflictions with both owners and fans alike, was in the most polite way, fired. Greenville, SC native Ronald Corn was chosen in a wild move by the owners as the new GM of the Chicago Cubs. Ron had the following to say: "This was a surprise to both me and my son, Josh. He was the one that incouraged me to write a letter to the front office along with my resume. I honestly didn't think I would be hired, but I will do my best to turn this club around." Corn's son Josh gave Ron the idea after being fed up with watching the Cubs spiral towards the cellar year after year. He says that the idea was also inspired by video games. "I've been playing MVP Baseball 2005 since it came out on the PC, and after having several winning seasons, I figured that something must be wrong if a guy like me can win the World Series with the same lineups on the field." Ron later added that his previous career was as an electrician, and that if something messed up at Wrigley, he would be glad to fix it. Talk about hands on... yourhomiejosh
Carlos Zambrano is getting the nod to open the 2006 season at Cincinatti against Aaron Harang. Zambrano finished the 2005 season with a 14-6 record and a 3.26 ERA. Harang finished with an 11-13 record and a 3.83 ERA About Zambrano starting, GM Ron Corn said "I've always liked Zambrano. He shows his emotions very well on the field, and I like that. I like a player who goes out there and gives his all. He has for the most part pitched well, and if he can get the run support that he needs, he can very well have a great season." Corn also stated that manager Dusty Baker has to prove himself if he wants to stay in Chicago. "I don't mind Dusty Baker, he's a nice guy. But nice guys don't always win. I will support him as long as he can succeed, but I will re-evaluate the situation if the time comes."

yourhomiejosh
Cubs start season off with a blowout in Cincy This is quite a way to start off the season. Zambrano went 7 innings allowing 6 hits and only a single earned run with 6 K's. Howry came in to start off the 8th, and he allowed 2 runs while getting 3 K's. A big surprise of the game was left fielder Matt Murton. Murton went 3-for-5 with a double and a 3-run homer while scoring 4 RBI's in total. "This is what I'm talking about. What a great way to start the season." said GM Ron Corn, hoping to break from the past few years' habits.
