FL aka FruityLoops

It's a program that is made for making music on the computer. I read somewhere that 9th Wonder got his career moving by making beats with this program and selling them to artists, so I got curious and downloaded but I really don't have much idea of where to begin. Has anyone used this before? If someone had used it before and could give me a few tips it would be much appriciated.

yeah i used it when i first started production..it's great to learn on and understand how to make hip hop tracks..it makes the learning process very visual, for which i'm always an advocate..i actually did a track for Biz Markie that made his "Weekend Warrior" record on fruity loops

Damn.

I messed around with it for a while. It's kinda complicated at first but theres some beat packs you can download to. Also once you learn to sample beats then it's smooth sailing. I know a guy who is going to college for production and he knows how to use FL pretty well.

Damn, man. I would LOVE to learn how to sample using FL. It's so hard to make beats that actually sound like hip-hop using that program, though. I could make some ill techno beats on it though, heh

man, been a while since i used that. i used to record music and stuff but mvp took over and i left these programs aside. another great program that's more user friendly is Acid Pro. i have this "m-audio mobile pre" mixer-type of thing that i can connect a mic, my keyboard or my guitar to it and through the USB im able to record them into Acid Pro and the sound is just fantastic. i had a whole bunch of music i did but i lost interest and got rid of them. i plan on using that program again sometime in the near future. anyways, good luck with watever you're doing.

I hate when "Do not remote link" images ruin jokes.

I use FL and Cool Edit Pro to do home recording. I don't have a drumset, so I use FL's "Real Drumkit" and get mostly decent results.

sorry man, but i'm not a MAC guy..although MAC's are usually much better for sound and visual purposes, i learned on a PC and I know a PC...i've had some experience on MAC, but never with garageband.

The person who mentioned Reason is right...Great program, especially for hip hop...try to find some demo's of these programs around the web..if you're new, it's like Christmas morning..they used to have a Pro-Tools demo a few years ago that gave you 8 tracks to work with.

Back to Fruity Loops, I don't know if you can actually sample in that program. You couldn't when I was using it back in 2000, 2001...there is no telling what they did to it by now...for PC guys, try chopping up your samples in "sound recorder"..i love it because it makes it visual..you can see the waveform and get an exact chop...that's important if you don't have quantizing programs..you can grab kicks, snares, hats, and any other "hit" samples with sound recorder..this is where it really stands out....just make sure you are chopping .wav files since that is the only thing "sound recorder" will open...wav files will also give you the best sound quality on a PC..so it's a win-win

I'm not an expert on this, in fact I know as much about this as I do in making a sig. But have any of you heard of a program called Sony Acid Pro?

That is the link that tells you about this program. Maybe that is what you guys are looking for?

acid and fruity loops are very similar..it's like nba live compared to 2k..some will swear by one over the other...but they both have their strong points in different areas..if you can figure it out, i say go with acid..it gave me more options during the small amount of time i used it..they are both programs based on loops, though i never used loops for either of them..keep in mind i haven't used FL since 2001...it could be the greatest thing since sliced bread now
