sfgiantsflgators
Giants Forced To Split First Home Series Giants fans would have to wait a day to see Matt Cain's 2006 debut after rain forced a Saturday doubleheader against the Braves - and I'm sure those that saw the game would agree that it was well worth the wait. Cain faced off against Kyle Davies in the first game of the doubleheader and, while Davies was effective, Cain was the story. Davies allowed one run on five hits in 5.2 innings, but couldn't match Cain's complete game shutout performance. Cain allowed just three hits in the game, while striking out eight. Barry Bonds homered off Braves' reliever Dave Coggin in the eighth for his first long ball of the season. In the nightcap, Jason Schmidt took the hill against Braves' veteran John Smoltz. Schmidt continued his early season struggles, allowing four runs in five innings, including homeruns to Marcus Giles and Jeff Francoeur. Francoeur later added another homerun off reliever Jeremy Accardo. San Francisco would manage to pull within two after going down 6-1 but fell short in the loss, 7-4. Going for the series win, the Giants sent out Matt Morris to battle the Braves' Tim Hudson. Morris allowed five runs in five innings and took his first loss of the year as Hudson allowed just three runs over eight innings to improve to 2-0. After being held hitless on opening day, Moises Alou has hit in six straight games. sfgiantsflgators
okay - i'm going to say this once and in the nicest way i can: this isn't "Bonds' Bashing: A Giants Dynasty". there are plenty of Bonds' bashing threads around - you can go there and post all the asinine comments you want. any more in this one, and it's shut down - i have no problem enjoying this dynasty without going through the effort it takes to post it. for everyone new, i'm going to post this front and center on the first page so anyone that clicks on my sig will see it right off the bat. sfgiantsflgators
Giants Drop Final Two For First Series Loss Of The Season Trying to ride the emotional high of their game one victory, the Giants sent Jamey Wright out to face Brandon Backe. On this night, Wright would need perfection to outduel Backe as he went the distance, shutting out the Giants and allowing just two hits in the process. A homerun by Morgan Ensberg and two run double by Brad Ausmus was enough for Houston to take the contest, 3-0. In the rubber match, the Giants' Matt Cain got the call versus Juan Gutierrez. Both pitchers went five, allowing four runs (three earned) a piece on an also even total of six hits. Gutierrez was credited with the win though as, in the top of the sixth, Houston was able to take the lead on a homerun by Lance Berkman, his second of the game, off reliever Brian Wilson. Wilson would also surrender a homerun to Morgan Ensberg in the eighth and the Astros went on to win the game 6-4, and take the series. Game 2 Boxscore Game 3 Boxscore League Injuries: ANA RF Nick Gorneault will miss the remainder of the season with a torn PCL. MIN SP Carlos Silva will be out until at least July with a torn MCL. Snowdrake
Nice Rotation you should probably get rid of Wright and move Hennessey up to the rotation and put Wright in the pen. But overall very nice.
sfgiantsflgators
Nice Rotation you should probably get rid of Wright and move Hennessey up to the rotation and put Wright in the pen. But overall very nice. i like Hennessey and, unless the Giants trade him for some reason this year, he will probably be in the rotation for me at some point. i want to see how Wright performs first though as i think he is a pretty good fourth or fifth option. if i need a spot starter throughout the season, Hennessey will definitely get the first look. sfgiantsflgators
Giants Take First Series In Rivalry 2006 Game two of the series saw Matt Morris face off against Brad Penny. The Dodgers struck first, scoring two runs in the second inning on a homerun by Bill Mueller. The Giants would take a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning, but were countered with a three run Dodger half of the inning, giving the Bums a 5-3 lead. Two more runs were added by the Dodgers in the seventh, as they went on to win the game 7-3. With the series up for grabs, the Giants sent out Noah Lowry to face Odalis Perez. Each team scored in the first, and the Giants added a run in the second to take an early 2-1 lead. The Giants scored three runs in the fourth to jump out to a 5-1 lead, one coming on a solo shot by Ray Durham, his second of the year. A three run Dodger sixth pulled Los Angeles within a run, but the Giants bullpen threw 3.1 innings of shutout ball to finish the game off for Lowry's second win, and gave the Giants the first series in the 2006 version of the storied rivalry. Game 2 Boxscore Game 3 Boxscore League Injuries: DET 1B Chris Shelton was put on the 15 day DL with a sprained knee.

sfgiantsflgators
Giants, D-Backs Split Four-Gamer In a battle of early season NL West division hopefuls, the Giants went into game two with a half game lead over Arizona. Looking to stretch their lead, the Giants sent out Matt Cain to face off against Miguel Batista. Cain was effective, giving up two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts, in 6.1 innings. Batista was the better hurler on this day though, falling one out short of the complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out eight over his 8.2 innings. The Diamondbacks won the game 3-0. In game three of the series, Jason Schmidt faced off against Enrique Gonzalez. Gonzalez would leave after five, having surrendered four runs on six hits, including homeruns to Ray Durham and Barry Bonds. Bonds would add another homerun later, off Arizona reliever Bill Murphy, for his third of the season. He now sits four away from tying Babe Ruth for second on the all-time list. As for Schmidt, he would pick up win number two after going seven, giving up three runs on six hits and striking out eight. The final score, after a Giants four run eighth - 9-3. Going for the series win was Matt Morris, squaring off against Arizona ace Brandon Webb. Webb pitched 7.1 shutout innings, allowing five hits while striking out five. A two-run homerun by Luis Gonzalez off Morris in the first inning was all that Arizona would need thanks to a shutout effort by it's bullpen in relief of Webb. Orlando Hudson added an RBI single in the fourth as Arizona forced a series split with a 3-0 win. Game 2 Boxscore Game 3 Boxscore Game 4 Boxscore League Suspensions: MIL SP Chris Capuano was suspended for six games.
