tejdog1
Game 160: Rockies @ Mets Aaron Cook (7-11, 4.92) vs Scott Kazmir (12-11, 4.24) The Rockies scored a run in the first, thanks to an error by Paul Lo Duca. Luis Gonzalez and Todd Helton singled with one down, and with two down, Brad Hawpe walked to load the bases. Garrett Atkins hit a knubber in front of the plate, and Lo Duca couldnt make a play on it, resulting in an error and a run. Kazmir escaped further trouble by inducing JD Closser to fly out. The Mets tied it in the 2nd. Carlos Beltran singled, stole second, and scored on Chris Woodward's 2 out single, knotting the game 1-1. Luis Gonzalez quickly put the Rockies back in front, hitting a leadoff homer in the 3rd. The Mets regained the lead in the 4th. Jeff Keppinger walked, Carlos Delgado doubled, and Beltran was HBP to load the bases with no out. Paul Lo Duca and Chris Woodward hit consecutive grounders to plate a pair, putting New York ahead 3-2. Kazmir got through 5 with a lead, putting himself in line for his 13th win. Matt Lindstrom came on to pitch the middle innings. JD Closser, however, had other ideas, homering in the 6th to deny Kazmir a chance at the win. David Wright pinch hit with the bases loaded and 2 down in the 6th, but couldn't deliever a timely hit. Henry Owens came on to pitch the 7th. Owens allowed a couple of runs to score, giving Colorado a 5-3 lead. The Mets fell by that score.

Then we'll give Trachsel 3 tomorrow, and Heilman 3." Tejesh said, revealing his plans for the next two days. The Rockies scored a run in the first against Glavine to take the early lead, 1-0. The Mets scored twice in the 2nd to take a 2-1 lead. The Mets scored twice more in the 4th and 6th, extending to a 6-1 lead. Pedro pitched 3 scoreless innings, and Matt Lindstrom came on to pitch. tejdog1
Game 162: Rockies at Mets Jeff Francis (7-22, 5.53) vs Steve Trachsel (16-6, 2.57) The final game of the season took place at Shea Stadium, as Steve Trachsel started for his final tune up before the playoffs. "The plan has changed for us. Trachsel, Kazmir and Heilman will each throw 2 innings, and then we'll go with Owens, Dotel and Wagner." Tejesh said. Everybody got one AB in the first 2 innings, and then Tejesh mass substituted, taking Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Cliff Floyd and Paul Lo Duca out of the game. Scott Kazmir replaced Trachsel. The Mets had a 2-0 lead thanks to a 2 run 2nd. Kazmir pitched 2 perfect innings, and Aaron Heilman came on to pitch the 5th and 6th. Heilman pitched 2 scoreless, and Henry Owens came on. Only Wagner faltered, allowing a run in the 9th, but 5 previous Met pitchers held Colorado scoreless. The Mets won, 3-1. tejdog1
Game 1 NLDS: Cardinals @ Mets Cris Carpenter vs Pedro Martinez Albert Pujols led off the top of the 4th inning with a homer, putting the Cardinals ahead 1-0. Pedro went 6 innings, and was pinch hit for by Endy Chavez leading off the bottom of the 6th. "We can safely go with a 3 man rotation, so we have additional depth in the bullpen, meaning more flexibility in when we can pull our starters." Tejesh said. Chavez singled and stole second, Jose Reyes walked, and with one down, Carlos Beltran hit a 2 run double, putting the Mets ahead 2-1. Henry Owens came on to pitch the 7th. Owens, however, allowed a 1 out triple to David Eckstein, and Scott Rolen's groundout scored him, tying the game 2-2. Aaron Heilman came on to pitch the 8th. However, Heilman fared no better then Owens. He hit Jim Edmonds with a pitch leading off the inning. Edmonds went to second on a Juan Encarnacion grounder, stole 3rd, and scored on Junior Spivy's grounder, putting the Cardinals back on top, 3-2. The Mets tied it in the bottom of the 8th. With one down, Carlos Delgado walked, David Wright doubled, and Cliff Floyd walked to load the bases. Victor Diaz drew a walk to force Delgado in with the tying run, knotting it up at 3 a piece. Heilman, though, blew up in the 9th, allowing 4 runs. Eckstein singled, Rolen walked, Pujols singled to score Eckstein, and Jim Edmonds capped the inning with a homer, putting the Cardinals ahead, 7-3. tejdog1
Game 2 NLDS Jason Marquis vs Tom Glavine In an eerily similiar game to Game 1, the Cardinals took a 4th inning 1-0 lead on a homer, this time by Jim Edmonds. The Mets bounced back in the bottom of the inning with a 2 spot, taking the lead. Cliff Floyd doubled with one down, Victor Diaz singled him in. Paul Lo Duca singled to put runners on the corners, and Tom Glavine helped himself with a squeeze to drive a run in, making it 2-1. The Mets added to the lead in the 6th on Lo Duca's 2 out solo shot, and Glavine went 7 strong innings, yielding to Billy Wagner. Wagner, however, gave it all back in the 9th. Albert Pujols singled to lead off, Edmonds singled, and Juan Encarnacion doubled one run in. Junior Spivy singled in a pair, making it 4-3 St. Louis. "Our bullpen this series has been a certifiable disaster zone." Tejesh said, stating the obvious. In 5 innings, the Met bullpen has allowed 9 runs, all earned. It was not to be for St. Louis, though, as the Mets stormed back for 2 runs, getting their closer off the hook. Pinch hitter Endy Chavez doubled to lead off, and Jeff Keppinger's one out single brought him in, tying the game 4-4. Carlos Beltran singled to move Kepp to third, and Carlos Delgado hit a slow roller up the third base line, scoring Kepp and giving the Mets a thrilling 5-4 victory. "Time to regroup and go west." Tejesh said.
tejdog1
Game 3 NLDS Steve Trachsel vs Sidney Ponson The Mets got off to a fast start in the critical 3rd game of the series. Jose Reyes led off with a homer, putting the Mets ahead 1-0. Three straight two out singles by Albert Pujols, Jim Edmonds and Juan Encarnacion tied the game in the bottom of the 1st, 1-1. The Mets retook the lead in the 2nd, but at a steep price. David Wright singled to lead off the inning, Paul Lo Duca followed with a 2 out double, and Trachsel singled the pair in. However, Lo Duca was injured on the play, and preliminary reports suggest he will miss the remainder of the playoffs. "It's not looking good right now. We'll know better after the game." Tejesh said. The Mets had a 3-1 lead. Ramon Castro came in to replace Lo Duca. The Mets put up a 3 spot in the 3rd inning to semi-take control of the game. Carlos Delgado and David Wright singled, and Cliff Floyd homered, all with one down, giving the Mets a 6-1 lead. Pujols hit a 2 out homer in the bottom of the 3rd to slice the Met lead to 4. The Mets answered with a 2 run 4th to extend the lead to 6. Reyes singled and stole second. Jeff Keppinger singled and stole second, and both scored on Carlos Beltran's double. Trachsel was his usual solid self, going 7 innings allowing 3 runs, and Aaron Heilman came in to pitch 2 scoreless innings of relief, rebounding from his nightmarish Game 1, and the Mets won, 9-3. tejdog1
Game 4 NLDS Mets @ Cards Pedro Martinez (0-0, 1.50) vs Cris Carpenter (0-0, 3.00) The Mets look for the series clincher in Game 4, turning to Pedro Martinez. David Wright hit a one out homer in the 6th, breaking up the pitchers duel, and putting New York ahead, 1-0. That was the only run of the game, as Pedro Martinez went the distance on a 3 hit shutout. "That is the type of performance aces give you in the playoffs. An absoulte amazing classic gem." Tejesh gushed.

tejdog1
The Mets announced that they would be calling up Joe Hieptas from Norfolk, and placed Paul Lo Duca on the 15 day DL with a fractured toe. "He is done for the season." Tejesh said. Game 1 NLCS: Reds @ Mets Aaron Harang (0-1, 1.35) vs Pedro Martinez (1-0, 0.60) The Mets scored 2 in the first, giving Pedro an early lead to work with. The Reds got a run back in the 4th on an Adam Dunn double play ball scoring Brandon Phillips. Ramon Castro got that run right back in the bottom of the inning with a homer. The Mets then scored 2 in the 7th, making it a 6-1 game. Keppinger and Beltran singled, and David Wright doubled with pair in, opening the game up a bit. Pedro was done after 7, and Jonathan Broxton came on to pitch the 8th. Broxton allowed a pair of runs in the 8th, continuing the dreadful bullpen performance, but Jeff Keppinger hit a 3 run homer to give the Mets a 9-3 lead in the top of the 9th. Aaron Heilman came on to pitch the 9th. Heilman pitched a scoreless 9th, and the Mets won, 9-3.
tejdog1
Game 2 NLCS Bronson Arroyo (0-1, 1.50) vs Tom Glavine (0-0, 1.29) The Reds got to Glavine in the 3rd for 3 runs. Arroyo was hit by a pitch, and Felipe Lopez made Glavine pay, smacking a 2 run shot. One out later, Ken Griffey Junior hit a solo shot to put the Reds ahead 3-0. The Mets scratched a run out in the 4th to pull within 2. Jeff Keppinger walked, advance to second on Carlos Beltran's grounder, and scored on Carlos Delgado's single, making it 3-1. Glavine went 5, and was pinch hit for by Endy Chavez with 1st and 2nd and one out, but Chavez hit into a double play, ending the threat. Brian Bannister came on to pitch the 6th. Bannister allowed a 2 out homer to Edwin Encarnacion in the 6th, putting the Reds back up by 3, 4-1. Bannister went 2, and Octavio Dotel came on to see if he could actually pitch a scoreless outing. He did so, going 2 scoreless, but the Mets could muster no offense, losing 4-1, leaving the series tied at a game a piece, heading to Cincinnati for 3. tejdog1
Game 3 NLCS: Mets @ Reds Steve Trachsel (1-0, 3.86) vs Brandon Claussen (1-0, 1.17) The Mets made a statement in the opening inning, putting up a 7 spot. Jose Reyes singled to lead off, stole 2 bases, and scored on Jeff Keppinger's single. Kepp then stole second. Consecutive walks to Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado loaded the bases with no out. Three straight singles by David Wright, Cliff Floyd and Victor Diaz plated 4 runs, before Claussen retired Ramon Castro, the 8 hitter, for the first out of the game. Trachsel squeezed home Floyd for the 6th run. Reyes then came up for his 2nd AB of the inning and singled, driving in Diaz. Reyes stole 2 more bases, Kepp walked, but Carlos Beltran flew out to mercifully end the inning. 12 men came to bat, 7 scored, on 6 hits and 2 walks. Trachsel went the minimum 5 inning required for a win, and then the Mets put it on cruise control, winning 13-6.

Delgado and Wright walked back to back to force in two, Floyd singled to drive in a run, and Victor Diaz walked to cap the scoring.
