With two down, Carlos Beltran walked and stole second, Carlos Delgado walked, and David Wright doubled Beltran in to take a 1-0 lead. The Mets extended the lead to 3-0 in the 2nd inning. Reyes tripled to lead off the 5th, and scored on Beltran's groundout, extending to a 4-0 Met lead. Pedro went 6 shutout innings, and Scott Kazmir came in to pitch. Kazmir pitched 2 scoreless innings, and Billy Wagner set the Yankees down 1-2-3 in the 9th, giving the Mets a 4-0 Game 1 victory. "Scott has done a tremendous job out of the pen for us during the playoffs. He's really stablized the bullpen." Tejesh said.
tejdog1
Game 2 WS: Yankees @ Mets Mike Mussina (1-1, 3.98) vs Tom Glavine (1-1, 4.08) Cliff Floyd doubled leading off the 2nd, and with one down, Ramon Castro doubled him in to give the Mets a 1-0 lead in Game 2. "Castro has done an amazing job for us since Paul went down. He has really made sure the 8 hole isn't an automatic out." Tejesh said. The Yankees struck for 5 in the 3rd to grab the lead. Hideki Matsui and Robinson Cano singled to lead off, Mussina bunted them to second and third. Johnny Damon singled to drive one in, Jeff Keppinger made an error on Gary Sheffield's ball to allow another run to score, and then ARod hit a 3 run shot to cap the scoring and put the Yankees up 5-1. The Mets answered right back with a pair in the bottom of the inning, drawing back to within 2, at 5-3. Keppinger walked to lead off the inning, Carlos Beltran singled him to third. Carlos Delgado grounded out to score Kepp, and Cliff Floyd's 2 out single scored Beltran to halve the Yankee lead. Glavine was lifted for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 4th, and Scott Kazmir was called on to pitch the middle innings. Kazmir pitched one scoreless inning, and the Mets took the lead in the bottom of the 5th. Floyd walked leading off, advanced to second on Victor Diaz's groundout, and scored on Ramon Castro's single. Pinch hitter Julio Franco doubled to put two in scoring position. Jose Reyes singled in the tying run, and then stole second. Keppinger grounded out to plate the go ahead run, giving the Mets a 6-5 lead. Aaron Heilman came in to pitch the 6th, and threw up a zero. The Mets added to their lead in the bottom of the inning. Cliff Floyd and Victor Diaz singled with one down, and Castro's groundout scored Floyd with the Mets 7th run. Henry Owens came in to pitch the 7th. Owens threw up a zero, and Octavio Dotel came in for the 8th. Dotel allowed a run to let the Yankees creep back within a run. Damon singled and Sheffield walked to put the first two on. ARod doubled in one and put runners on 2nd and 3rd with no out. Dotel then went through Posada, Carlos Pena and Hideki Matsui, stranding the tying run on third. The Mets exploded for a 7 run 8th inning, icing the game. Delgado singled to lead off, and David Wright homered to put the Mets ahead 9-6. With one down, Diaz singled, Castro walked and pinch hitter Eli Marrero hit a 3 run bomb. With two down, Keppinger singled, Beltran doubled, and Delgado, the 10th man up in the inning, singled to cap the scoring, and put the Mets ahead 14-6. Jonathan Broxton came in to pitch the 9th. Broxton pitched a scoreless 9th, and the Mets took a 2 games to none series lead to the Bronx. "Our bullpen was great today. Absoultely clutch. 5 innings, 1 run. Terrific job." Tejesh said. tejdog1
Game 3 WS: Mets @ Yankees Scott Kazmir (2-0, 0.00) vs Carl Pavano (1-1, 2.30) "Trachsel would be eaten alive by this lineup, especially when they have the luxury of the DH. We felt Kazmir would fare better versus the Yankees at Yankee Stadium." Tejesh explained. However, the first inning didn't go well for Kazmir, as he allowed 2 solo homers to Derek Jeter and Gary Sheffield, providing the Yankees with a 2-0 lead. Jorge Posada, Carlos Pena and Hideki Matsui all singled to lead off the 2nd, and Robinson Cano walked to force in a run, making it 3-0. Kazmir bore down and got out of the jam without allowing anything further, but it was 3-0 Yankees. The Mets tied it in the 5th inning. Ramon Castro singled and scored on Jose Reyes' 2 run shot. Jeff Keppinger walked, Carlos Beltran singled, and Carlos Delgado singled home Kepp, tying it 3-3. Kazmir went 5 innings, and was replaced by Henry Owens. Reyes' second home run of the game, leading off the 7th, put the Mets ahead 4-3. Cliff Floyd led off the 8th with a home run, giving the Mets a 2 run cushion at 5-3. Jason Giambi doubled to lead off the 8th versus Owens, and scored on two groundouts, to slice the Met lead to 1, at 5-4. Billy Wagner was brought in to pitch the 9th. Before that, however, the Mets scored 4 in the top half of the 9th to give Wagner a 5 run cushion. Jose Reyes singled, Keppinger walked, Delgado walked to load the bases with one down. Cliff Floyd walked to force a run in, Victor Diaz singled in a run, and DH Endy Chavez singled in a pair, extending to a 9-4 lead. Wagner couldn't help but throw a heart attack at Met fans, loading the bases with no out before inducing a double play grounder from Sheffield. A run scored on the play, but the Mets won, 9-5, to take a commanding 3-0 series lead.

tejdog1
Game 4 WS: Mets @ Yankees Pedro Martinez (3-0, 0.79) vs Randy Johnson (2-2, 2.79) The Mets look to execute a Subway Series Blitz, sweeping their hated cross-town foes in Yankee Stadium. Carlos Beltran homered with 2 down in the top of the first to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. Gary Sheffield hit a 2 out homer for the Yankees, tying the game 1-1 after 1. The Mets exploded for a 4 run 3rd, chasing Johnson. Jose Reyes walked and stole second, Jeff Keppinger walked, and Beltran singled to load the bases. Carlos Delgado hit a grand slam to put the Mets in front, 5 to 1. Sheffield hit his second solo homer of the game in the 4th, pulling the Yankees within 3, at 5-2. Delgado singled to lead off the 5th, but was erased on David Wright's fielder's choice. Cliff Floyd followed with a 2 run homer to extend the lead to 7-2. Jorge Posada and Carlos Pena went back to back leading off the bottom of the 7th, carving into the Met lead. Octavio Dotel replaced Pedro at that point. Dotel got out of that inning unscathed, but he allowed a single by Sheffield leading off the 8th. Jason Giambi reached on an error by Jose Reyes with one down, and that ended Dotel's outing. Billy Wagner came in to pitch, and allowed a single to Posada, scoring Sheffield and trimming the Met lead to 7-5. Pena and Matsui flew out to end the threat, and Wagner kept the Mets ahead, 7-5. The Mets extended back to a 3 run lead in the top of the 9th. David Wright led off with a single, and with one down, Victor Diaz singled to move Wright to 3rd. Julio Franco lifted a sac fly to score Wright and make it 8-5, Mets. Billy Wagner took the hill in the bottom of the 9th, looking to secure the Mets first World Series Championship since 1986. Wagner struck out Robinson Cano leading off the inning, got Derek Jeter on a comebacker for the second out, but the Yankees weren't done. Johnny Damon singled, and Gary Sheffield doubled him in to cut the Met lead to 8-6. Alex Rodriguez was the last hope for the Yankees, but Wagner was up to the task, striking him out and giving the Mets a Subway Series Beatdown victory. "I can't tell you how exciting this is right now! Wow what a game! What a season!" Tejesh exclaimed.

tejdog1
The offseason is over, and the Mets made many moves, many of them strictly salary dumps to get prospects into the majors. Here is a recap: Cliff Floyd, Steve Trachsel, Jon Lester, Craig Hansen traded to Boston for A RP Anastacio Chen, AA CF Odalis Smith Jeff Niemann to TB for A SP Vince Mazzaro Jose Tabata, Jesus Montera to NYY for A RF Jonathan Poterson Stephen Drew, Justin Upton to ARI for A RF Willy Wathan *recalled CF Lastings Milledge, SP Brian Bannister from AAA Norfolk

tejdog1
Well, it was more because I have a ton of my own internal talent ready to move up a level, then wanting to get any prospects back.
tejdog1
2006 Season News and Notes The Mets today made a last minute decision to recall top pitching prospect Mike Pelfrey from AAA Norfolk and optioned RP Juan Padilla to Norfolk. "With the age of the top 2 in our rotation, we'll be going with a 6 man rotation for the first month or so, and then evaluate. We could, conceivably, go with a 6 man rotation all season. We'll see, it depends on how Mike performs." Tejesh said. The two significant changes the Mets made during the offseason were the addition of Lastings Milledge and Brian Bannister into starting roles, and the trading of Cliff Floyd and Steve Trachsel. "We shed quite a few years in that trade, one thing we had wanted to do. Also, Tommy's contract runs out after the season, and it is unlikely he will be brought back." The team went 19-3 during Spring Training, and opens the season with a special game vs the Cubs, held in Havana, Cuba. The Mets broke camp with the following roster: SP Pedro Martinez SP Tom Glavine SP Scott Kazmir SP Aaron Heilman SP Brian Bannister RP Mike Pelfrey RP Tanyon Sturtze RP Jonathan Broxton RP Matthew Lindstrom RP Henry Owens RP Octavio Dotel RP Billy Wagner SS Jose Reyes 2B Jeff Keppinger CF Carlos Beltran 1B Carlos Delgado 3B David Wright LF Victor Diaz RF Lastings Milledge C Paul Lo Duca UTIL Henry Mateo UTIL Chris Woodward UTIL Eli Marrero OF Endy Chavez C Jason Phillips Game 1: Cubs @ Mets Carlos Zambrano vs Scott Kazmir Carlos Zambrano was primed for his first start of the season, taking a perfect game into the 6th inning. Lastings Milledge, playing right field, had other ideas, doubling to lead off, his first major league hit. That hit opened the floodgates for New York, as they put up their first runs of the season in quick succession. Paul Lo Duca, hitting 8th, doubled Milledge in. After a failed bunt by Kazmir, Reyes was hit by a pitch, Keppinger singled home Lo Duca, Beltran walked to load the bases, and Delgado hit a bases clearing double to break the game open at 5-0. Milledge would get his second hit of the inning, a single, to end the hit parade. Armed with a 5-0 lead, Kazmir went the distance on a 7 hit shutout, striking out 12. tejdog1
Game 2: Padres @ Mets Jake Peavy vs Aaron Heilman Jose Reyes reached on an error by the usually sure-handed Adrian Gonzalez, and promptly stole his first 2 bases of the season. Jeff Keppinger walked and stole second. Carlos Beltran grounded out to score Reyes, and a single by Carlos Delgado scored Kepp, giving New York a 2-0 lead. Adrian Gonzalez made up for his error by homering in the 2nd inning to cut the Met lead in half, but the Mets exploded for a 4 run bottom of the 2nd, putting some distance between themselves and the Padres. Paul Lo Duca walked leading off, and after a sac bunt by Heilman, Reyes tripled Lo Duca home. Kepp singled in Reyes and then stole 2 bases. Beltran walked and stole second, putting 2 in scoring position with 1 down. Delgado grounded out to score Kepp, and David Wright singled to score Beltran, putting New York ahead 6-1. Heilman gave 2 of those runs right back in the 3rd inning. Edgardo Alfonzo singled to lead off, and a double by pitcher Kenny Baugh put 2 in scoring position with no out. Khalil Greene hit a sac fly to score one, and with 2 down, Josh Barfield singled to drive Baugh in, making it 6-3. The Mets got those 2 runs back in the bottom of the 3rd. Lastings Milledge singled to lead off, Lo Duca walked, and after a Heilman bunt moved them to second and third, Reyes singled one in. He promptly stole second. Keppinger grounded out to score Lo Duca, making it 8-3. The Mets put up an 8 run 4th inning, icing the game, making it 16-3. Heilman allowed 2 runs in the 6th, before being lifted for a pinch hitter. He left on the long side of a 17-5 game. Matthew Lindstrom didn't have a good beginning to his 2006 season, allowing 6 earned runs in 3 innings. The Mets, however, cruised to a 17-11 victory. "That was ugly." Tejesh said.

tejdog1
Pelfrey will probably do a little of both. I'm going with a 6 man rotation for a little while, and he'll probably do a little long relief, short relief, really, just want to get him between 10 and 12 starts, and 100-110 innings, so he'll be ready to take over for Glavine after the 06 season. He blew through AAA last year, so no reason to have him repeat the level.
