tejdog1
Game 3: Padres @ Mets Chris Young vs Brian Bannister Jose Reyes doubled to lead off the 4th inning, and scored on Jeff Keppinger's single, giving the Mets a 1-0 lead. The Mets extended their lead to 3-0 in the 6th inning. Reyes singled leading off and stole second. Keppinger drew a walk, and Carlos Beltran's grounder moved them into scoring position. Carlos Delgado grounded out to score Reyes, and David Wright singled to score Kepp. Jason Phillips, who the Mets signed during the off season to back Lo Duca up, singled with one down and scored on Reyes' homer in the 7th, extending to a 5-0 lead. The Padres got those runs back in the top of the 8th. Ryan Klesko homered leading off, and after consecutive singles by Dave Roberts and Khalil Greene with one down, Bannister was taken out in favor of Henry Owens. Owens allowed a single to Mike Cameron, but escaped further trouble, and took a 5-2 lead to the bottom of the 8th. Billy Wagner was brought in to nail it down, and did anything but. He walked the leadoff hitter and allowed a single, putting the first two men on. He then retired two in a row before serving up a 3 run shot to Termel Sledge, tying the game 5-5. In the bottom of the 9th, the Mets won on walks. Lastings Milledge led off with one and stole second. Phillips walked, and with two down, Keppinger walked. Beltran capped the scoring by walking. The Mets won, 6-5.
tejdog1
Game 4: Padres @ Mets Tim Stauffer vs Mike Pelfrey Pelfrey's 2006 debut began much as his major league debut did, shakily. Mike Cameron doubled with one down and Josh Barfield singled him in to give the Padres a quick 1-0 lead. The Mets got Pelfrey a lead to work with in the 2nd. Carlos Delgado walked to lead off, and David Wright doubled, putting 2 in scoring position. Victor Diaz grounded out, 5-3, to score Delgado. Lastings Milledge, the other half of the rookie tandem in the game, singled to score Wright. Milledge then stole second, moved to third on Paul Lo Duca's single, and scored on Pelfrey's squeeze, putting the Mets ahead 3-1. Jeff Keppinger walked leading off the 3rd, and Delgado homered to extend the Met lead to 5-1. Jose Reyes singled, stole 2 bases, and scored on Keppinger's sac fly in the 4th, giving Pelfrey a 5 run cushion. Pelfrey went 7 strong innings, allowing 2 runs, and Matthew Lindstrom was brought in to pitch the 8th. Lindstrom pitched 2 scoreless innings, bouncing back from the drubbing he took in the second game of the season, and the Mets won it, 6-2.

tejdog1
Guys, I just saved over the save file by mistake. Luckily, I create backups periodically, but the last one I did was prior to the 2005 playoffs. I am going to sim everything up to Game 5 of the 2006 season, and do everything the same. I will fast sim the first 4 games of the season, and just edit the posts with the new boxscores. OK?

tejdog1
Doesn't that just feel so bad? Makes me angry. Tonight's win helped soothe me ;)
TheProdigy
Absolutely, Reyes should be considered an MVP Candidate, when you're mentioned in the same sentence as Rickey Henderson and Joe Morgan for having a 300 AVG 20 HR 20 2B 20 3B and 60 SB, that's outstanding. If he continues driving in runs, he can get to 100 RBIs, if he's really into it, he has 74 at this moment.
Dom2662
Very right. Howard also has MVP numbers 54 homers 130+ RBIs.

tejdog1
Question: Would you guys like me to keep doing the writeups, or will the boxscore be enough? Game 5: Dodgers @ Mets Chad Billingsley vs Tom Glavine The Mets batted around in putting up a 4 spot vs the 2nd year phenom, giving Glavine some breathing room. Jose Reyes and Jeff Keppinger lead off with singles, and with one down, Carlos Delgado grounded into a 4-6 fielder's choice, scoring Reyes. David Wright followed with a single, and Victor Diaz hit a 3 run homer, capping the 4 run outburst. The Mets added a run in the 2nd. Reyes doubled, Kepp singled, and Carlos Beltran grounded into a double play, plating Reyes and making it 5-0 New York. Lance Nix and Billingsley each doubled leading off the 3rd, getting that run back and pulling the Dodgers within 4, at 5-1. The Mets chased Billingsley in the 3rd with a run, which the Dodgers got back in the 4th, making it 6-2. Glavine allowed solo runs in the 5th and 9th innings, but went the distance, and the Mets won, 6-4. "I think we will be monitoring our older starter's innings. They're strong right now, so they can go a bit longer, but you shouldn't except complete games from Pedro or Tommy often." Tejesh said.
tejdog1
Game 6: Dodgers @ Mets Odalis Perez (0-1, 2.57) vs Scott Kazmir (0-0, 0.00) The Dodgers greeted Kazmir roughly in the lefty's 2006 debut. Rafael Furcal singled to lead off the game, and scored on Cesar Izturis' double, putting LA ahead 1-0. Jeff Kent's 2 out single scored Izturis to make it 2-0. The Mets answered with a 3 run flurry in the 2nd inning, opening the inning with 4 straight baserunners. Carlos Delgado walked to lead off, David Wright singled, Victor Diaz doubled in a run, and Lastings Milledge singled in two, putting New York ahead 3-2. Jeff Keppinger doubled with one down in the 3rd and scored on Wright's single, extending the Met lead to 2. The Dodgers answered with a 3 run 5th to take the lead back, 5-4. Lance Nix walked to lead off, and following a sacrifice by Odalis Perez, scored on Furcal's double. JD Drew drew a 2 out walk, and back to back singles by Jason Werth and Jeff Kent plated a pair, putting LA back on top. Jeff Keppinger tied it with a one out solo shot in the bottom of the 5th, and Jonathan Broxton came in to pitch the 6th inning for New York. Lance Nix, however, hit a one out solo shot of his own, putting LA back on top, 6-5, in the 6th inning. Victor Diaz tied it with a solo homer off Duaner Sanchez, knotting the game once more, 6-6. Endy Chavez pinch hit for Broxton leading off the 7th inning. Chavez singled and stole second, but the Mets could not push him across. Henry Owens came in to pitch the 8th for the Mets. Owens pitched 2 scoreless innings, but allowed a 3 run homer to Lance Nix in the top of the 10th, providing the margin of defeat, and the Mets lost their first game of the season, 9-6 in 10 innings.
