Game 138: Mets @ Reds

With the division clinched, the Mets will be downshifting over the next 24 games, resting their starters, and not allowing them to go beyond 6 innings, if that.

I check in once in awhile... but it's hard to follow when not a single game is actually being played. And I'm not gonna lie, I have a short attention span and some pictures would be nice to entertain me :p

But it's still a good dynasty. You must really enjoy reporting on the games to get this far without a break or losing it all together.

Game 143: Brewers @ Mets

Chris Capuano (8-11, 3.63) vs Mike Pelfrey (12-5, 4.85)

The Mets got a run back in their half of the 3rd. Paul Lo Duca singled to lead off, and Pelfrey doubled to put two in scoring position. Jose Reyes' grounder to short plated Lo Duca, cutting the Brewers lead to, 4-1.

Pelfrey settled down after the rough beginning, and went 7 innings, allowing those 4 runs and nothing more. He left for a pinch hitter, Eli Marrero, following Lo Duca's leadoff single in the bottom of the 7th. Marrero singled, to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no out. Reyes singled Lo Duca in, cutting the deficit to 2, and Lastings Milledge followed with a game tying 2 run double. Game 145: Brewers @ Mets

Dana Eveland (5-13, 5.62) vs Tom Glavine (14-1, 3.45)

With the bullpen having been stretched for 7 innings in yesterday's game, Tom Glavine will have to go a little farther then Tejesh would like to push him.

"We don't have a long man behind him. Pelfrey's not ready to go, Sturtze went 3 yesterday, Liddy and Brox went 2 each. Dotel and Owens are my setup men, I would like to avoid using either in long relief. I don't like it, but Tommy's going to have to give me at least 7 innings today, maybe 8."

Asked who he would turn to if the worst case scenerio happened, Tejesh wasn't sure.

"Well, Kazmir's turn is tomorrow, and Heilman is on his throw day. Either one of those two would be 'first choice', if the situation warrented. I hope it doesn't."

It definetly didn't look good 3 batters into the game. Carlos Lee doubled to lead off, and scored on Bill Hall's single. Prince Fielder followed with a single, and that had Tejesh edging nervously towards the top step of the dugout. Glavine, though, settled in and escaped further trouble, keeping the score 1-0.

The Mets tied it in the 2nd inning. David Wright singled to lead off, and with one down, Carlos Delgado, moved down to 6th versus lefties, singled to put runners on the corners. With two down, Joe Hieptas singled to drive Wright in, tying the game at 1.

The Mets chased Eveland with a 4 run 3rd. Carlos Beltran walked and stole second with one down. Wright singled him home. Victor Diaz walked, and Delgado doubled one in. Jeff Keppinger singled another in, and Hieptas hit into a force play to plate the 4th run of the inning, making it 5-1, NY.

Glavine did his job and more, going 8 terrific innings, just allowing that lone run. Eli Marrero pinch hit for him with one down in the bottom of the 8th.

"Tommy did an incredible job today. He really stepped up big time and allowed us to rest the pen." Tejesh praised.

Octavio Dotel came in to pitch the 9th, and threw up a 0, giving Glavine his 15th victory, 5 to 1.

Game 146: Mets @ Nationals

Scott Kazmir (9-7, 4.24) vs Zach Day (6-12, 5.72)

The Mets opened the scoring with a run in the 2nd. David Wright walked to lead off, Carlos Delgado singled, and with one down, Jeff Keppinger was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Paul Lo Duca's sac fly scored Wright, putting NY on top, 1-0.

Lo Duca doubled to lead off the 5th, and scored on Jose Reyes' homer, extending the Met lead to 3-0.

Kazmir went 7 strong innings, allowing just one run, in the 7th, on back to back one out doubles by Ryan Church and Brian Schneider. Henry Owens came in for the 8th.

Owens, though, got touched up for 3 runs in the 8th inning. Christian Guzman singled to lead off, and Jose Vidro doubled him home. With one down, Ryan Zimmerman homered, putting Washington on top, 4 to 3.

In the 9th, the Mets rallied to tie the score against Chad Cordero. Victor Diaz reached on an error by Nick Johnson. Jeff Keppinger singled him to third, and Paul Lo Duca's squeeze tied the score at 4. Matt Lindstrom came in for the bottom of the 9th.

Lindstrom pitched a scoreless 9th, and the Mets poured across 3 in the 10th, taking a 7-4 lead. Lastings Milledge singled with one down and stole 2nd, scoring on Carlos Beltran's double. David Wright singled, and Carlos Delgado walked, loading the bases. Victor Diaz hit a slow roller up the third base line, scoring Beltran and making it 6-4. Jeff Keppinger followed with an RBI single, scoring Wright and giving Billy Wagner a 3 run cushion to work with.

Ryan Zimmerman homered with one down in the bottom of the 10th, cutting the Met lead to 2, 7-5. Nick Johnson singled, and then back to back walks to Ryan Church and Brian Schneider moved the tying runs into scoring position. At that point, Tejesh made a bold move, bringing Octavio Dotel into the game, setting himself up for all sorts of criticism. Brandon Watson was first up against Dotel, and he fouled out to first. With two down and the bases juiced, the count got to 3-2 on Ryan Bernadina.

"Dotel set, the runners take their leads, they'll be off with 3 and 2 and 2 down. Dotel delievers, and it's hit on the ground to third. Wright fields, straightens, fires and Bernadina is out! The ballgame is over! Octavio Dotel comes into a bases loaded one out mess and cleans it up, preserving a 7 to 5 victory. Dotel gets the save, his 3rd, and Matt Lindstrom gets his 9th victory in relief."
