18th, 26th: Martinez

19th, 27th: Glavine

Game 150: Mets @ Braves

Pedro Martinez vs Mike Hampton

The Mets opened the scoring with a run in the 2nd, on a David Wright leadoff homer. In the bottom of the inning, the Braves tied it on a 2 out double by Chad Tracy and single by Kelly Johnson.

The Mets chased Hampton with a 4 run 4th. Lastings Milledge singled to lead off, and scored on Carlos Beltran's double. David Wright walked, and Victor Diaz launched a 3 run homer, capping the scoring and providing Pedro a 5-1 lead to work with.

Pedro went 6 terrific innings, allowing just the one run, and Octavio Dotel came in for the 7th. Dotel went an inning, and Jonathan Broxton came into the game for the 8th. Brox pitched a scoreless 8th, and Matt Lindstrom did the same in the 9th, giving the Mets a solid 5-1 victory.

Game 151: Mets @ Braves

Tom Glavine (15-1, 3.33) vs Tim Hudson (9-14, 4.35)

The Mets used their legs to propel themselves into a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning. Jose Reyes singled to lead off, and stole 2 bases. After a walk to Lastings Milledge, who stole 2nd, Carlos Beltran singled the pair in. Beltran then stole second and scored on Carlos Delgado's 1 out single, giving Glavine a 3 run lead.

That was all the scoring into the 7th, when Henry Owens replaced Glavine. Owens, however, imploded, allowing 4 runs. Jeff Francoeur singled to lead off the inning, and Chipper Jones singled him to 3rd. Chad Tracy walked to load the bases with no out. Kelly Johnson walked to force in a run, Johnny Estrada stroked a 2 run game tying single, and Chuck James grounded out, plating the go ahead run, putting Atlanta on top, 4 to 3.

The Mets answered right back with their own 4 run inning. Jeff Keppinger singled with one down, and stole second. Back to back walks to Joe Hieptas and pinch hitter Endy Chavez loaded the bases with one down. Jose Reyes walked to force in a run, and the big blow was struck by Lastings Milledge, in the form of a 3 run double.

Jonathan Broxton came in and pitched a scoreless 8th inning, setting it up for Billy Wagner. However, the Mets struck for 2 more in the 9th, extending to a 9-4 lead, so Brox was allowed to pitch the 9th, and threw up a second 0, earning the save.

Game 152: Mets @ Braves

Scott Kazmir (9-7, 4.11) vs John Smoltz (13-8, 4.15)

The Mets tagged Smoltz for 3 runs on 4 hits in the opening inning, including 2 homers. Carlos Beltran hit a 2 out solo shot to get it started. David Wright followed with a single, and Carlos Delgado homered, opening a 3-0 Mets lead.

Carlos Beltran walked to lead off the 7th, and scored on Victor Diaz' 2 out double, extending the Mets lead to 4-0.

Kazmir began the 7th, but faultered, allowing a pair before being lifted. Edgar Renteria led off with a homer, cutting the Mets lead to 3, 4-1. With one down, Jeff Francoeur walked, Chipper Jones singled, and Chad Tracy singled Francoeur home, ending Kazmir's night. Octavio Dotel came in and induced Kelly Johnson to hit into a 4-4-3 double play, ending the inning and keeping the Mets ahead.

Henry Owens pitched a dominating 8th inning, striking out a pair, setting it up for Billy Wagner in the 9th.

Wagner, however, blew yet another save. Renteria singled to lead off the inning, and scored on Andruw Jones' triple, cutting it to a 1 run game. With one down, Chipper Jones lifted a sac fly, scoring Andruw and tying the game at 4.

Victor Diaz led off the top of the 10th with his 25th homer, putting NY back on top, 5 to 4.

With the one run lead, Mike Pelfrey was brought in for the save chance.

"He can get by throwing gas in one inning stints." Tejesh said. Pelfrey did just that, striking out a pair, pitching a 123 10th for his 2nd save.

Game 153: Mets @ Phillies

Aaron Heilman (13-2, 3.92) vs Ryan Madson (11-13, 3.61)

Jimmy Rollins singled to lead off the 3rd for Philly, advanced to 2nd on Chase Utley's one out grounder, and scored on Pat Burrell's 2 out single, giving Philly a 1-0 lead.

David Wright homered to lead off the 4th, tying the game at 1. Bobby Abreu homered leading off the 5th for Philly, giving Philly a 2-1 lead.

Heilman was done after 5, and Jonathan Broxton came in for the 6th. Brox pitched a scoreless 6th, continuing his recent improved pitching, and Matt Lindstrom came in for the 7th. David Wright homered to lead off the 8th inning, retying the score at 2.

Tanyon Strurtze came in for the 8th inning. He pitched a scoreless 8th, so the Met irregulars in the bullpen did their jobs, and the Mets grabbed the lead in the top of the 9th. Endy Chavez singled and stole second with one down, scoring on Wright's single, making it 3-2, NY. Billy Wagner came in for the save chance.

Wagner pitched a 1-2-3 9th, getting his 34th save, and David Wright drove in all 3 NY runs.

Game 154: Mets @ Phillies

Brian Bannister (10-8, 3.81) vs Cole Hamels (13-9, 4.32)

The Mets rested 3 of their regulars today, fashioning another odd lineup.

"I like odd lineups." Tejesh smiled.

Lastings Milledge (rf), Carlos Beltran (cf), David Wright (3b), Carlos Delgado (1b), Victor Diaz (lf), Ty Wigginton (2b), Chris Woodward (ss) and Joe Hieptas © was the lineup Tejesh posted for the game.

Hamels left the game in the 2nd inning, due to an undisclosed injury, Jon Lieber replaced Hamels.

Milledge homered to lead off the 3rd against Lieber, giving NY a 1-0 lead. The Mets padded their lead with a 2 run 5th. Woody led off the inning with a homer, and with two down, Milledge singled, stole second, and scored on Beltran's single, extending to a 3-0 lead.

Diaz tripled leading off the 6th, and scored on Woody's sac fly, adding a run to the Met lead.

Banny was allowed to pitch into the 8th with a 1 hitter going, but faultered, allowing 2 hits and a run. With two down in the 8th, Abraham Nunez doubled, putting a runner in scoring position for the first time all game. David Delluci walked, and Jimmy Rollins singled Nunez in, to cut NY's lead to 3, 4-1. Billy Wagner came in at that point and got Bobby Abreu to foul out, ending the threat.

The Mets and Phillies traded runs in the 9th, and Wagner got his 35th save, giving Banny his 11th win of the season.

September 23rd, Game 155: Mets @ Phillies

Prior to the game, the Mets announced they had recalled Phillip Humber from AAA Norfolk to start tomorrow. They optioned Matt Lindstrom down to Norfolk for the next couple of days.

"Lindstrom will be back, there is no forseeable situation where he wouldn't." Tejesh said.

Mike Pelfrey (12-6, 4.82) vs Jon Lieber (1-3, 5.40)

The Phillies got on the board first with a run in the opening inning. Jimmy Rollins singled, stole 2 bases, and scored on a 1 out error by Pelfrey.

The Mets tied it in the 3rd. Jose Reyes singled to lead off, stole 2nd, and scored on Carlos Beltran's 1 out single, knotting the score at 1.

The Mets grabbed the lead in the 4th. Victor Diaz and Jeff Keppinger singled to open the frame, and Kepp scored on Paul Lo Duca's sac fly, putting NY on top, 2 to 1.

Lastings Milledge and Carlos Beltran opened the 5th with back to back doubles, giving the Mets a 2 run cushion, 3-1.

Kepp singled to lead off the 6th, advanced to 2nd on Pelfrey's 1 out grounder, and scored on Reyes' single. Milledge followed with an RBI double, giving Pelfrey a 4 run cushion at 5-1.

Pelfrey went the distance, and the Mets won it easily, 8-2.

Game 156: Mets @ Phillies

Phillip Humber (3rd ML start, 1-0, 5.93) vs Gavin Floyd (11-10, 3.02)

Phillip Humber's last major league start, on May 3rd, was his best, as he went 5 2/3 innings, allowing 7 hits and 3 runs, walking 2 and striking out 4. He spent the bulk of the season pitching in Norfolk, sharpening his offspeed pitches, and now he gets a spot start, hoping to build some momentum for the 2007 season.

Brad Harman doubled to lead off the 3rd against Humber, and Gavin Floyd walked to put the first two on. With Tanyon Sturtze called to warm up in the pen, Jimmy Rollins singled home Harman, giving Philly a 1-0 lead. Humber then struck out Bobby Abreu and induced a double play out of Chase Utley, limiting the damage to 1 run.

Humber allowed just that lone run in his 6 innings of work, leaving on the short end of a 1-0 game.

"Man he pitched in some tough luck today. He showed alot of poise, especially in that 3rd inning. The game could've really gotten away from him there, and he buckled down nicely. Great job by Humber." Tejesh said. Jonathan Broxton came in for the 7th.

Brox allowed a run in the 8th, but it didn't matter, the Mets were blanked, 2-0. Humber took the tough luck loss, going 6, allowing 5 hits, 1 run, walking 3 and striking out 3.

Game 157: Braves @ Mets

John Smoltz (13-8, 4.19) vs Pedro Martinez (13-3, 3.34)

The Mets begin the final homestand of the regular season with a 3 game set versus their hated rivals, the Atlanta Braves. Matthew Lindstrom returns from Norfolk, as Phillip Humber gets back down to Norfolk, getting ready to start Game 1 of their playoffs.

The Mets got on the board first, with a run in the 3rd. Pedro and Jose Reyes singled to open the inning, Carlos Beltran walked, and Lastings Milledge hit into a double play, plating Pedro and giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.

The Mets chased Smoltz with a 5 run 4th. Victor Diaz singled with one down, and Jeff Keppinger followed with a 2 run homer. Paul Lo Duca singled after that, and Reyes singled with two down, setting the stage for Beltran, who blasted a 3 run homer, opening up a 6-0 Mets lead.

Pedro went 6 shutout innings, and Jonathan Broxton came in for the 7th. Brox worked 3 innings, striking out 5, while allowing 1 run on 3 hits, picking up his 6th save.

Game 158: Braves @ Mets

Victor Zambrano (9-14, 3.72) vs Tom Glavine (15-1, 3.20)

The Mets grabbed the lead with a 2 spot in the 5th. Glavine led the inning off with a single, and Jose Reyes singled behind him, putting the first two on. Carlos Beltran grounded out, moving them up a base, and Lastings Milledge grounded out, plating Glavine. David Wright singled to drive Reyes in, making it 2-0, NY.

Glavine went 7 shutout innings, and was replaced by Henry Owens for the 8th. Owens allowed a run in his inning, so Billy Wagner had a 1 run lead to protect going to the 9th. Wagner worked into and out of trouble in the 9th, nailing down his 36th save, and giving Glavine his 16th victory of the season.

Game 159: Braves @ Mets

Bruce Chen (3-1, 3.15) vs Scott Kazmir (9-7, 4.06)

The Mets grabbed the lead with a run in the 2nd. Carlos Delgado walked with 2 down, and Jeff Keppinger singled. Joe Hieptas followed with an RBI double, scoring Delgado and giving NY a 1-0 lead.

David Wright's costly 2 out error in the 6th lead to 2 unearned Atlanta runs. Wright made the error on a Jeff Francoeur grounder, and Chipper Jones followed with a 2 run homer, giving Atlanta a 2-1 lead.

Kazmir went 7 terrific innings, and the Mets got him off the hook in the bottom of the 7th. Hieptas reached on an error by Chen, opening the inning. Eli Marrero then pinch hit for Kazmir, and Endy Chavez pinch ran for Hieptas. Marrero grounded out, sending Chavez to 2nd, and Jose Reyes singled him in, tying the game, 2-2. Paul Lo Duca replaced Hieptas, and Matt Lindstrom came in for Scott Kazmir.

Lindstrom pitched 2 scoreless innings, and the Mets loaded the bases with no out in the bottom of the 9th, but failed to score, so the game moved into extra innings. Tanyon Sturtze came in for the 10th.

Sturtze pitched a perfect 10th, and the Mets won it in the bottom half. Victor Diaz singled to lead off, and Carlos Delgado launched a walk off 2 run shot to right, giving NY a 4-2 victory.

Game 160: Nationals @ Mets

Zach Day (6-13, 5.70) vs Aaron Heilman (13-2, 3.91)

Alfonso Soriano hit a 1 out solo shot in the 6th, breaking up the scoreless duel and giving Washington a 1-0 lead. Heilman went 6 good innings, allowing just that run, and Jonathan Broxton came in for the 7th. Brox allowed 2 runs on a Vidro homer in his inning of work, but that didn't matter, as the Mets were blanked, 3-0.

Game 161: Nationals @ Mets

Livan Hernandez (16-8, 4.54) vs Brian Bannister (11-8, 3.69)

Banny got tagged for 4 runs on 4 hits in the 2nd inning, opening the scoring. Ryan Zimmerman singled, then three straight doubles by Nick Johnson, Ryan Church and Brian Schneider plated three runs. Brandon Watson and Livan Hernandez grounded out, plating Schneider and giving Washington a 4-0 lead.

The Mets got a run back in their half of the second, but should've had much more. David Wright walked, and Carlos Delgado singled, putting the first two on. Victor Diaz hit into a very untimely double play, though, 6-5-4. Jeff Keppinger singled, and Paul Lo Duca doubled one in, cutting it to a 4-1 Washington lead.

The Mets tied it in the 4th with a 3 spot. Wright walked, and Delgado homered, pulling them within 1. Diaz reached on an error by Zimmerman, Kepp singled him to third, and Lo Duca hit into a 5-3 fielder's choice, tying the score. Endy Chavez then pinch hit for Banny, flying out. Tanyon Sturtze came in for the 5th.

Christian Guzman singled to lead off the 7th against Sturtze, with one down, Alfonso Soriano walked, and Zimmerman doubled the pair in, giving Washington a 6-4 lead. Sturtze left after working 4 very effective innings, allowing just those 2 runs.

The Mets rewarded Sturtze's good pitching with a 3 run 8th, grabbing their first lead. Wright homered to lead off the inning, cutting the deficit to one. Delgado followed with a single, and with one down, Kepp and Lo Duca walked to load the bases. Pinch hitter Eli Marrero singled home a pair, putting NY ahead, 7-6.

Billy Wagner came in for the 9th, looking for save No. 37. Wagner walked Soriano with one down, but nothing came of that, and he got his save, and the Mets got their 115th victory.

Game 162: Nationals @ Mets

John Patterson (14-9, 3.71) vs Mike Pelfrey (13-6, 4.66)

Lastings Milledge walked with one down in the first, stole second, and scored on Carlos Beltran's homer, giving the Mets a 2-0 lead in their final tuneup before the playoffs.

Pelfrey allowed those runs right back in the 3rd inning. With one down, Patterson doubled, and Christian Guzman was hit by a pitch. With two down, Alfonso Soriano singled home Patterson, Ryan Zimmerman walked to fill the bases, and Nick Johnson singled home Guzman, tying the game at 2.

Milledge singled to lead off the NY 3rd, David Wright singled with one down, and Victor Diaz homered with 2 down, a 3 run shot, putting NY on top, 5-2.

The Mets exploded for a 4 run 5th, icing the game. Wright singled to lead off, and Carlos Delgado launched a 2 run shot to center, opening up a 7-2 lead. With one down, Jeff Keppinger hit a solo shot, Paul Lo Duca doubled, and Pelfrey singled him home, extending the lead to 7, at 9-2.

The Mets emptied the bench at that point, Endy Chavez replaced Beltran, batting third, Chris Woodward replaced Wright, batting fourth, Ty Wiggington replaced Delgado, batting fifrth, and Joe Hieptas replaced Paul Lo Duca, batting 8th.

The Mets opened up a 10-2 lead, but the Nationals chipped away, bringing the tying run to the plate in the 9th with no out. Billy Wagner came in and put down the uprising, earning his 38th save. Mike Pelfrey absorbed 5 runs, although he pitched very well for 6 innings.

"We desperately didn't want to use anyone for 3 innings, so we had to try and sqeuak a 7th from Mike. It didn't work." Tejesh said.

Game 1 LDS: Dodgers @ Mets

Before Game 1 of the Playoffs, manager Tejesh Patel announced that Aaron Heilman would be the 3rd starter, and Scott Kazmir, and Brian Bannister, would both be available out of the bullpen.

Chad Billingsley vs Pedro Martinez

The Mets grabbed a 1 run lead in the opening inning. Jose Reyes singled to lead off, advanced to 2nd on Lastings Milledge's grounder, and scored on Carlos Beltran's single, giving Pedro a 1-0 lead.

The Mets chased Billingsley with a 4 run 2nd inning. With one down, Jeff Keppinger, Paul Lo Duca and Pedro Martinez all drew walks, Pedro's coming with him trying to bunt. Reyes singled home a pair, and Milledge doubled home another pair, opening up a 5-0 Mets lead.

The Mets continued the attack, taking a 10-1 into the 7th. Pedro was removed after 6 innings, and Jonathan Broxton came into the game. Paul Lo Duca was also taken out, in favor of Joe Hieptas.

Broxton worked 3 1 hit innings of relief, picking up his first save, and the Mets cruised to a 10-1 victory in Game 1.

Game 2 LDS: Dodgers @ Mets

Odalis Perez vs Tom Glavine

The Mets go up against regular season Cy Young winner, Odalis Perez, who pitched to a 2 era in the regular season, while 16 game winner Tom Glavine goes for New York.

The Mets once more jumped on top, 1-0, in the 1st inning. Jose Reyes singled, stole second, and scored on Lastings Milledge's single.

Tom Glavine was inexplicably ejected from the game in the 2nd inning for hitting Bill Mueller.

"I hope that [naught word] umpire chokes on a hot dog and dies." Tejesh snarled. Scott Kazmir came in with runners on 1st and 2nd, no one out. Kazmir got Lance Nix to ground into a double play, but Perez helped himself with an RBI single, tying the game at 1.

The Dodgers took the lead with a run in the 3rd. Jose Cruz singled with one down, JD Closser walked, and with two down, Bill Mueller singled home Cruz, putting LA ahead, 2 to 1.

The Dodgers added a pair in the 4th, taking a 4-1 lead. Rafael Furcal walked to lead off, Cesar Izturis singled him to third. With one down, Jose Cruz singled Furcal home, and JD Closser lifted a sac fly to center, plating Izturis.

Kazmir was pinch hit for after pitching 4 innings, and Matt Lindstrom came in for the 6th. Lindstrom allowed a pair of runs in his 2 innings of work, which the Mets got back, so heading to the 8th, the Mets trailed 6 to 3. Mike Pelfrey came in for the 8th. Pelfrey went 1, and Henry Owens came in for the 9th. Owens allowed a run in the 9th, but the Mets lost, 7-3, leaving the series as a Best of 3.

Game 3 LDS: Mets @ Dodgers

Tom Glavine vs Derek Lowe

With Glavine having gone only an inning in Game 2, the Mets brought him back for the pivotal Game 3 start.

The Mets, for the third straight game, got off to a 1-0 lead. Jose Reyes walked to lead off, stole 2 bases, and scored on Carlos Beltran's 1 out sac fly.

Bill Mueller singled to lead off the 3rd for LA, Lance Nix walked, and with two down, Cesar Izturis singled home Mueller, to tie the game at 1.

Carlos Beltran walked to lead off the 4th, stole 2 bases, and scored on David Wright's grounder, giving NY a 2-1 lead.

The Mets put up a 2 spot in the 6th, grabbing a 3 run lead. Lastings Milledge doubled to lead off the inning, and scored on Carlos Beltran's single. Beltran then stole 2 more bases, and scored on Wright's grounder. Octavio Dotel came in for the 6th.

The Mets ran roughshot over the Dodgers in the 7th, stealing 5 bases en route to 3 runs. Paul Lo Duca doubled to lead off, and Endy Chavez, pinch hitting for Dotel, singled and stole second. With one down, Milledge singled the pair in, and then stole 2 bases, scoring on Beltran's single. Beltran then stole 2 bases, but the Mets couldnt get him home.

Jonathan Broxton came in for the 7th. Brox pitched 2 1/3 innings before he, too, was ejected for hitting a batter

"You know, these umpires are real anal [naught word] [naughty word]." Tejesh said after the game, earning another fine from baseball.

Tanyon Sturtze came in and got through the 9th, and the Mets won, 8 to 1.

Game 4 LDS: Mets @ Dodgers

Aaron Heilman vs Jimmy Gobble

Jose Cruz led off the 2nd for LA with a solo shot, putting the Dodgers on top, 1-0.

Heilman went 5 2/3 innings of 1 run ball, leaving with the bases loaded, 2 down, and Bill Mueller due up. Mike Pelfrey was brought in and did his job, striking out Mueller, stranding the bases loaded and keeping the Mets in the game.

The Mets responded to the key strikeout, getting a pair in the 7th, and grabbing the lead. With one down, Victor Diaz drew a walk, Jeff Keppinger doubled, and Paul Lo Duca walked to load the bases. Eli Marrero, pinch hitting for Pelfrey, stroked a 2 run single to center, plating Diaz and Kepp, giving NY a 2-1 lead.

The Mets grabbed an insurance run in the 9th. Diaz was hit by a pitch, advanced to 2nd on a Kepp grounder, and scored on Lo Duca's single, giving NY a 3-1 lead. Billy Wagner came in for the save chance.

Wagner threw up a scoreless 9th, and the Mets won the series, 3 games to 1.

Game 5 (1 LCS): Cardinals @ Mets

Anthony Reyes (0-0, 0.00) vs Pedro Martinez (1-0, 1.50)

David Eckstein homered with one down in the opening inning, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead, 2 batters into the game. Scott Rolen homered leading off the 2nd, doubling the Cardinals lead to 2-0.

David Wright walked to lead off the NY 2nd, and Carlos Delgado blasted a 2 run homer to tie the game, 2 apiece.

That's the way the game played out, until Albert Pujols' 1 out solo shot in the 8th put the Cardinals ahead, 3 to 2. Pedro finished up that inning without anymore damage, and then was pinch hit for, ending his night.

Endy Chavez pinch hit for Pedro with runners on 1st and 2nd, and one out, and doubled home Jeff Keppinger, who had doubled with one down to begin the rally.

With the game tied at 3, Brian Bannister came in for the 9th. Banny went 2 innings, and the Mets won it with a run in the bottom of the 10th. Jeff Keppinger singled to start it, and Paul Lo Duca singled to put runners on the corners and no out. After some hesistation, Eli Marrero was sent up to pinch hit for Banny, and struck out. Jose Reyes saved the day with a sac fly, scoring Kepp and giving NY a 4-3, 10 inning victory.

Game 6 (2 LCS) Cardinals @ Mets

Cris Carpenter (0-0, 2.57) vs Tom Glavine (1-0, 3.00)

Juan Encarnacion singled, stole second, and scored on John Rodriguez' single, and 2 batters into the 2nd inning, the Cards had a 1-0 lead.

The Mets grabbed the lead in the bottom of the 2nd with a 2 spot. Victor Diaz was hit by a pitch leading off, and Jeff Keppinger walked. Paul Lo Duca's grounder advanced them, and Glavine's squeeze tied the game. Jose Reyes followed with an RBI single, giving NY a 2-1 lead.

Scott Rolen walked to lead off the 7th, and with one down, John Rodriguez doubled him to third, and Yadier Molina's grounder scored him, tying the game at 2.

Glavine went 7+, allowing just those 2 runs, and Mike Pelfrey came in for the 8th.

With one down in the 8th, Jeff Keppinger and Paul Lo Duca singled, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd. Pelfrey bunted them over, and Reyes singled them in, giving Billy Wagner a 4-2 lead for the 9th.

Wagner allowed a hit and a walk, but no runs, and the Mets took a 2-0 series lead to St. Louis, with a 4-2 victory.

Game 7 (3 LCS) Mets @ Cardinals

Aaron Heilman (0-0, 1.59) vs Ted Lilly (1-0, 1.42)

The Mets broke up a scoreless duel :starwars: with a 4 run outburst in the 4th inning. Lastings Milledge led off with his first career playoff homer, opening the scoring. Carlos Beltran then walked and stole second. With one down, Lilly committed a costly error on Victor Diaz' grounder, allowing Beltran to score. Carlos Delgado walked, Jeff Keppinger singled Diaz in, Paul Lo Duca walked to load the bases, and Heilman delievered a successful squeeze, plating run No 4 and giving himself a cushion to work with.

Heilman allowed one of those runs back in the St. Louis 4th, and then imploded, allowing 5 in the 5th. Yadier Molina walked to lead off the disasterous frame. Adam Wainwright, the opposing pitcher, singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Aaron Miles walked to load the bases. David Eckstein singled home one, Albert Pujols' grounder plated another, Jim Edmonds 2 run double gave St. Louis the lead, and Scott Rolen's RBI single added a run to the lead. After Juan Encarnacion singled, Heilman was pulled, and Scott Kazmir came in and escaped any further damage. The Mets trailed, 6-4.

The Mets, as the did all throughout the regular season, absorbed the body blow and then dished one of bigger proportions right back out, annihilating the Cardinals bullpen for 7 runs in the 6th. Jeff Keppinger walked with one down, Paul Lo Duca followed with a single, and pinch hitter Endy Chavez singled Kepp in, cutting the Cards lead to 1. With two down, the carnage began. Lastings Milledge walked to load the bases, Carlos Beltran singled home a pair, giving NY a 7-6 lead. David Wright walked to reload the bases. Victor Diaz singled home a pair, Carlos Delgado singled one in, Kepp walked to rereload the bases, and Lo Duca capped the onslaught with a RBI walk, capping a 7 run inning, and giving the Mets an 11-6 lead. Mike Pelfrey came in to pitch for the Mets.

Pelfrey went 4 innings in relief, allowing just 1 run, picking up his first career playoff save, and the Mets won it, 12-7.
