i have too much time on my hands. i was reading this about vista capable pcs at a website and i decided to speak more truth in the matter. always put truth in advertising.

the orignal version:

What's a Windows Vista Capable PC?

The next generation Microsoft operating system—Microsoft Windows Vista—is coming soon. What will Windows Vista mean for you? It will offer new levels of ease, security and reliability, a new interface, and simple ways to organize and search for information on your PC.

We've worked with Microsoft to help ensure that the PC you buy today can run Windows Vista when it's available. All of our new notebook and desktop PCs will be able to run Windows Vista* when properly configured.

Windows Vista will be available in versions ranging from Windows Vista Home Basic for entry-level home users to Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Business, for those needing more robust features and functionality*.

*Not all Windows Vista features are available for use on all Windows Vista Capable PCs. All Windows Vista Capable PCs will run the core experiences of Windows Vista, such as innovations in organizing and finding information, security, and reliability. Some features available in premium editions of Windows Vista—like the new Windows Aero user interface—require advanced or additional hardware. Check www.windowsvista.com/getready for details.

and here's the more accurate version, based on what i've read on this site and many others about vista.

What's a Windows Vista Capable PC?

The next generation Microsoft operating system—Microsoft Windows Vista—is coming one of these days, but we don't know with the many delays. What will Windows Vista mean for you? It will offer new levels of viruses, bloat and instablity, an ugly interface, and simple ways to get confused and lose your information on your PC.

We've worked with Microsoft to help ensure that the PC you buy today can run Windows Vista very crappy when it's available. All of our new notebook and desktop PCs will be able to run Windows Vista* when properly configured, which also means upgrading your hardware.

Windows Vista will be available in versions ranging from Windows Vista Home Basic for a stripped OS to Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Business, for those wanting a bit more satifsactory experince with Vista for more cash of course*.

*Not all Windows Vista features are available for use on all Windows Vista Capable PCs. All Windows Vista Capable PCs will run the core experiences of Windows Vista, such as ripoff features from Mac OS X in organizing and finding information, with the same crappy security, and even less reliability than XP. Some features available in premium editions of Windows Vista—like the new Windows Aero user interface—require advanced or additional hardware, that wouldn't be necsscary if you bought a Mac instead. Check www.windowsvista.com/getready for promotion of eye candy.

Sounds about right to me. Vista will have a lot of bloatware. I have quite the kick *** computer and mine will run Windows Vista Home Premium (according to the advisor downloadable at microsoft.com). I quote RAM: "Macs will take over the home pc community." With Vista looking like this, it very well could happen.

I have to agree, its seems like Microsoft is trying a hail marry before Macs take over completely, and it doesn't sound liek it will have any effect. Vista might be decent after a year of working out all the bugs, but it seems like its been rushed to try to compete with Mac.

I still have both, a mac powerbook and a pretty good PC (mainly for gaming), but for everydy stuff, Mac is far superior.

vista is probaly the main reason why i'm getting a macbook next year for my next computer (i was orginally going to get a pc laptop with vista on it in december). i think 10.5 should be out by early next year and the macbooks should improve at that point. i'm aiming to get it by this time next year at the latest, but would like to have it by march.

with all the nastiness in vista like mentioned above, i'm going to jump the windows ship and get a mac. i have a bit of experince, but not too much with os x.

I guess I don't get this. If you're gaming, you're going to need a dual boot version of a Mac, which would mean you'd be using Windows a decent amount of the time already. Why would anyone in that situation bother switching other than the aesthetic form factors of the Mac? Even still, if you're buying Macs because they 'look cool', they are very overpriced for their performance. Now I have to admit I'm not entirely satisfied with Vista from what I've read, but there is nothing preventing you from sticking with XP unless you want to play certain games, like Halo 2. If you're going to be playing a game like that, a Mac makes even less sense, because not only will you be paying the Apple price premium, but will also still have to shell out money for Vista.

i'm not using the laptop computer for gaming. i still have my desktop pc, which is for gaming.

but you bring up a good point for gamers. but if you aren't going to use the machine for gaming, i doubt going with vista is the best option. im buying the mac becuase i'm trying to get away from vista, which isn't looking so good. getting an xp laptop may lock me into getting a vista, and besides, the computer my parents were going to get me was a cheapie, so i'm buying my own.
