A MILE HIGH: A COLORADO ROCKIES DYNASTY

(first off, I would like to thank the modders who have enriched my desire for playing the game, there are some names below.)

2006 Season Preview

The Colorado Rockies are highly regarded as a mediocre franchise. The have failed almost every season, even having trouble to have a .500 winning percentage. Manager Clint Hurdle believes this year’s tale will be much different. He has a nucleus of experience, versatility, and youth, which is certainly the mood of the clubhouse. With stars on the rise such as Matt Holliday, the Rockies look a bit more impressive this year. Todd Helton is regarded as one of the best “all-around†first basemen in the Major Leagues. With a batting average of over .300, and gold glove caliber defense every year, guys like Clint Barmes and Garret Atkins praise that glove of Helton as he has proven to be the vocal leader, and star of the team.

Pitching has been the main concern. Over the years, Coors Field has been regarded as a hitter’s park with the altitude being off the charts and the outfield is vast in structure, pitchers usually bomb in their stint as a Colorado Rocky. Examples, Denny Neagle, Mike Hampton, “the late†Daryl Kile, Andy Ashby, Shaun Chacon amongst those to experience success with another team. However, hitters that have either revived or kick start their careers are notable, Todd Helton, Vinny Castilla, Larry Walker, Preston Wilson, Jay Payton, Dante Bichette , and Ellis Burks. Slowly emerging, Matt Holliday, and Clint Barmes have been impressive respectively. Clint Barmes led the league in Batting Average last year for a short period of time before injuring his left collarbone in a bizarre accident.

But yet again, Pitching is what is needed. Jose Mesa, Ray King, Zach Day, Josh Fogg were among the off season acquisitions. Ray King and Jose Mesa hopefully can provide well in the set-up man position, 7t h and 8t h inning respectively. Zach Day and Josh Fogg can hopefully provide consistency on the bottom end of the rotation. Brian Feuntes has emerged into a closer, not dominant but a smart closer.

They also have acquired Yorvit Torrealba, Jamey Carroll. Yorvit Torrealba is most likely to become starting catcher, while Jamey Carroll takes on a utility role which is always well-appreciated. He has played the infield in Washington/Montreal, look for him to play the outfield in later innings. Most recently, Colorado swapped Eli Marrero with Kazuo Matsui of the New York Mets, and the Mets picking up most of Matsui’s contract he has been optioned to (AAA) Colorado Spring Sky Sox. Also, Zach Day a potential fifth starter was recently claimed off waivers and will most likely be replaced by Aaron Cook.

What is most important is their manager, Clint Hurdle has had some troubles in the past with the Rockies, as far as winning goes but this year with a decent squad, perhaps the Colorado Rockies can contend in the NL West.

Game One: Starters

Game One: Preview

Brandon Webb, a cy young candidate takes on Jason Jennings in Opening Day at Coors Field in game one of the three game series.

Brandon Webb's signature pitch is his hard sinker, and it's one of the best in the game in competition with Roy Halladay's. It's hard for hitters to get a peice of it as it usually starts off at the outer half against right handers and sneaks in, usually pounds the left handers with it as it sinks into the strike zone. He has a good changeup and a curve that baffles the hitters. With a long delivery, Webb can get out of synch at times, leading to walks. Sometimes he betrays himself with bad body language.

Jason Jennings has three quality pitches. His strength is his hard sinker. He also has an average changeup. When he gets in trouble, he turns to his sinker. Sometimes he goes to his slider to often which makes hitters sit on his slider and nail a hanger. He has to be more aggressive, he needs to nail righthanded batters inside and changing speeds on lefthanded hitters.

Note

I have the box score and tons of screenshots, I just need help with the box score extractor, I don't want to cut it into images, I simply want it on a site, I already have a site at tripod, can someone tell me how they did it. Also how is it progressing, I'm working on an update (mlb.com format) on that National trade I'm trying to do followed by the Game Two preview, how am I doing?

thanks everyone for the comments, I just made a big trade, improved the offense, speed, and bench at the same time. I gave up talent though, and god rid of Kaz Matsui in the process with his whopping 8M$ salary, I'll post the details quickly.

thanks to Fastflink2009 for helping me on the box score extractor

yeah, I'll try to get a number one starter later in the year, also I've got some great ideas that I'll present after game two. As for the Soriano deal, I thought it was a steal, originally Aaron Cook was supposed to be apart of the deal with Kaz Matsui but I expanded the deal even more.

Game Two: Starters

mvp20052006071919284026xy3.png

Game Two: Preview

Diamondbacks look to retaliate. Jamey Carroll wasn't too fond of Gonzalez nearly trampeling Carroll on a double play. He uttered some words of expression and clearly Luis Gonzalez was the veteran and left the game, with an inflamed right elbow. He will be out for ten days at least. The starters are Juan Cruz who has the reputation of being a hot head and prospect Jeff Francis who can emerge as the ace and saviour of the ball club.

The Arizona Diamondbacks lineup went under drastic changes, the lineup looks entirely different from yesterday's bout.

Cruz has a sinking mid-90s fastball and a good changeup that features both fade and depth. He challenges hitters and can be nasty against righties. Lack of consistent command sometimes causes him to be too fine, which leads to gopher balls.

Throws his low-90s fastball with pristine command. His curveball can also be nasty and he throws it all with a quick and easy motion. His secondary pitches are mediocre at best, he needs to develop consistency and endurance.

Notes

Clint Barmes is now the leadoff hitter, as the lineups were released. Daryl Ward was seen in the dugout wearing a Rockies jersey so someone was obviously demoted. Dave Cortez was demoted to AAA, and Daryl Ward was brought up to provide pop in a pinch hitter role.

Game Three: Starters

mvp20052006072000501506ks5.png

Game Three: Preview

Claudio Vargas takes on Byung-Hyun Kim in the rubber game of this three game series. Emotional, to say the least but very entertaining. Recently acquired Alfonso Soriano makes this lineup much more better, and faster. With him at the top of the lineup, expect pitchers to pitch to him with Helton behind him. When Clint Barmes gets on base, he'll get in a run because Soriano, Helton, and Holliday have proved thus far that they can get it done.

Claudio can crank the heat up into the 97-mph range, has a strong curveball and gets ahead in the count. However, he tends to hit a wall in the seventh inning and needs to find a little more movement on his fastball so it doesn't get cranked out of the park so often.

Kim has a unique submarine delivery that can baffle hitters. He gets his fastball into the low 90s, an impressive feat for a submariner. His fastball, sinker and changeup all have good action on them. Kim is agile and an effective fielder, although his long delivery is a disadvantage at holding runners. He struggles when he isn't aggressive.

Notes

Lineups are pretty much the same from game two, excluding the number nine slot. Colorado needs to use their bullpen convservatively, they chose to have an extra fielder rather than pitcher. If anyone gets sent down, it is most likely Jorge Piedra.

Good luck, both with your post count and your dynasty. I have to say, Soriano looks pretty sharp in a Rockies uniform. Also don't worry about the typos, your stuff is great and I think the quality of presentation overshadows the minor typing erros. Good luck
