I've been watching some of the summer league games, and during tonight's game, they asked who is the most athletic 7-footer in league history.

My 2 picks are Olajuwon and David Robinson. Just wondering what ya'll thought.

I couldn't pick Dirk over Olajuwon. He blocked shots, rebounded, ran the floor like no other big man in history, imo. He could not only guard, but shut down any position on the floor. If I was going to start a franchise, Hakeem's my pick. And yes, that's over Jordan.

Yes thats true, but when you see these 7 footers with knee problems, you know that they are doing too much for their body to take. For Dirk, his body is built for what he does, he only sprains his ankle alot and he can still play through it. He rebounds, and can dribble a ball almost like a point guard. He starts fast breaks and pushes the ball down the floor like no big man in history has ever done. He can shoot inside or outside and he creates so many matchup problems it is crazy. Teams don't know whether to put a big man or a guard on him becuase he can take a Big Man outside and a Guard inside. He is the the only player in the game that could probably play every position and do well at each.

My problem with Dirk is that he doesn't play defense. He can win a game with his offense, but he can lose one with his D. Olajuwon done it all on both ends of the court. I'm not saying all this because he's my favorite player, because he's not. I just think he's the best all around player.

But Dirk has improved his defense greatly and he will continue to do so throughout his career. There are some times when he looks like a great defender and others like an awful one. But I still think Dirk will eventually be in the HOF and be the most unique Big Man ever

Don't take it that I don't like Dirk. I'm not his biggest fan, but he's a great ballplayer. But there's already been a player in the league that played just like him. Detlef Schrempf.

It is true that Dirk is a good player but tebjr is right here. He is certainly no MVP by any stretch of the imagination. The whole offense revolves around him and when he has a bad night he won't give it up, he just keeps shooting. David Robinson would be my pick.

Dirk is better than Detlef Schrempf.

Jermaine O'Neal had potential but he might be plagued with injuries. Vladimir Radmonavic is another one of those guys who is on the verge of breaking out. How about the Sonics though, they better start thinking of a new name. Oklahoma Sonics doesn't sound very good.

first of all, you lost all credibility by if you're picking olajuwon over jordan for your franchise.

secondly, detlef was 6'10". not quite 7'.

thirdly, you're all crazy if you're not picking the greatest of all time: gheorge "the animal" muresan!!!

Let me get one thing straight: Dirk is not very athletic at all. He can't jump and he isn't quick. He can obviously shoot it amazingly well for his size, so I'll give him that. The improvement of his defense is a joke; he's easily the worst defender in the entire league.

To answer the question, I'll go with tebjr and say Hakeem the Dream and David Robinson are right up there.

no, no, i was serious. muresan was so good that he scored over 90 points a night, but did it so fast, he made it look like his teammates were scoring. he did it so well that even the score keepers couldn't keep track of it, so he never got credit for 99.9% of the points he scored. it was the greatest travesty in the history of the universe. i once saw him punch a guy 371 times before he hit the ground. true story.
