Dan
This is my entry for a logo competition in my city for the 2006-2007 Celebration Johnstown! logo. It is a New Years celebration that is held in the city, and every year they have a logo competition. Here is last year's entry: I'd like to know how you think mine compares with last year's winning entry, and what I could do to improve mine. I tried to incorporate a family theme, though without the third person, it doesn't really work right I guess. There's also a Johnstown Chiefs hockey game, and fireworks display. Your feedback is much appreciated. Thanks. -dan
Guest
Not bad. Are there any small details that sets that town apart from the others? You could incorporate that if it exists.
Dan
Well, the Inclined Plane is the world's steepest...I tried to find more. I have till mid-August so I have plenty of time to improve it. It is non-alcoholic, so that may be one, though I have no idea on how I would do that because there can be no reference what so ever to alcohol... -dan
AstroEric
I'm not too sure about the arm between the two figures. It might be better if it was curved under instead of curved over. At first, I thought the larger figure was hitting the smaller one in the head with an ice cream cone. I really like the font choice and the colors though. It looks very good besides the two figures. A slight change to them, and you will have a winner. It seems more apealing than last year's winner. Your entry looks more modern and might atract a younger crowd as well as families. Nice job.
Dan
Thanks guys...so you're saying maybe make it swing down instead of straight out/up? I think that would look better too. Do I need to add a mom/dad to really finish it? I think so. I've still got more problems with it...the fireworks are too real for everything else, the figures are too geometric for everything else, and the inclined plane/arena is somewhere in between that. -dan
AstroEric
No, I think you should keep it as "Dan's Salute to Single Parenting"! Here's how I would fix it:
Dan
Yeah thanks Eric. I'm sure that will go over well with the city council. No, it's not a piano, its one of the cars of the inclined plane, which if you lived here, you'd realize what it was. I will touch them up. I made the 'Celebration' and '2006-2007' bold and stretched out the 06-07 more so it covers the bottom of the logo. Here's an updated design - expect another one by the end of the week as I will be working on many more revisions (one-color/shade fireworks, etc.)... -dan
AstroEric
That looks tons better. I tried to figure out which Johnstown it was...but there's apparently a bunch of them in the world. Do you guys not have vampires? --Eric
Dan
Haha nope, never heard of them. I'll let you keep guessing - the logo is a big enough clue. -dan
Zach
So you are from PA too Dan? By the way, the logo looks great.
Dan
Yeah. There's a lot of stuff I don't like about this logo - I think I'll sumbit what I have right now and begin work on another design. We'll see what I can do. -dan
