Southeast and Midwest US Open Bias

Recommended Posts

I'm getting kinda pissed about all of the future (and mostly current) US Open tournaments taking place in NY and Cali. I know Pinehurst #2 was last year, but look at the future Open Championship locations:

2007 - Oakmont, PA

2008 - Tourey Pines - CA

2009 - Bethpage - Black - NY

2010 - Pebble Beach

2011 - Congressional - Blue - MD

2012 - Olympic (san fran) - CA

that's 4 of the next 6 are in cali or NY, and MD is pretty much a northeastern state.

what, i cant say "pizzed"?

hey, we lost the western open man. that sucks, and i bet you understand.

p.s. not a big fan of golf, but it's a sport and therefore i follow casually.

Yeah, but none of them are U.S. Open Courses. Torrey Pines fits the bill perfectly because it long and you may not make it back alive if you venture far off the fairway. The other part is credibility. If you look at that list most of those are historical courses that have succesfully hosted previous tournaments. The problem is the cliamte. The midwest doesn't have many notable golf courses to begin with. The southeast gets a lot of rain and humidity which leads to softer courses, the #1 enemy of the USGA. Winged Foot set the tone for the next ten years. I wouldn't be suprised if 10 over wins by the time Olympic Club rolls around. If you want to talk about a bias Alaska has never had a tournament :p. There's a rumor going around that we might be getting a Nationwide event though.
