Most prized baseball (or sports) related possession?

Recommended Posts

I thought someone had started a thread like this awhile back but I can't find it...

What's your most cherished piece of sports memorabilia? A guy I know through work is a member of the HOF and goes to the induction ceremonies every year. For those that don't know, each year HOFers (not all, but a good portion) will sign pieces of memorabilia for a fee (usually expensive - i.e., Mays is over $100). However, some years various players will drop their price around the $50 range...usually depends on the player and their moods, of course.

This brings me to my most cherished item - an autographed picture signed by Juan Marichal that he got for me as a gift last year. It's an 8x10 photo of Marichal as he releases a pitch. Needless to say, it got framed less than 24 hours after he handed it to me. It hangs in the middle of the wall in the living room, for all to see :D

I can't expect and won't allow him to spend the money on a Mays item, but unfortunately I couldn't spring for it this year - hopefully Mays will be there next year because I will plan more in advance.

So...what are your favorite items? What would you most like to have?

My brother had just went off to school in Boston, and a few weeks after he left, he bought me a pair of Travis Hafner's signed batting gloves. Being the die-hard Tribe fan I am, I couldn't have been happier.

A signed game-used Andruw Jones baseball bat...

(No I didn't catch it or ask for it, I bought it at the Braves Clubhouse Store )

Obviously, I don't have too many sports-related possessions.

Mine is a baseball autographed by 10 of the 1954 Brooklyn Dodgers that my grandfather received personally from Gil Hodges as they used to be bowling buddies back in Brooklyn, and then handed the ball down to me as a highschool graduation present in 2003.

Autographs on it:

Gil Hodges

Pee Wee Reese

Duke Snider

Don Zimmer

Tommy Lasorda

Roy Campanella

Preacher Roe

Johnny Podres

Jim Gilliam

and...

Jackie Robinson =)

I have decided that if the Braves do indeed trade Andruw Jones, I will Carlos Zambrano this bat.

A ball signed by one player is usually more valueable than a team signed ball, just FYI.
