World Trade Center (Movie)

Over here on the Island, if your right near the ferry terminal at St. George you can get a nice view of the Trade Center. On my way home from being picked up early that day, we took a ride down there and we wanted to catch a glimpse of the towers. Sadly they weren't there when we went.

I'll always remeber as a little kid coming home from the Ranger games and we would always pass the WTC. I would always want to stop at there and just look at them.

I'll also remember the first time we went into the sity after the attacks. I was going to the knicks game and just coming out of the tunnel to the right I saw a peice of the WTC standing with the bright lights.

Then the aftermath. All you would see on the Island were dump trucks with Trade Center debris and if you were behind one, little peices of metal or whatever would hit your car. And the retired dump once again reopened.

I'm just glad it's all over. Nothings worse than the day after the disaster and the weeks following. It's like a death in the family. First shock, than anger, sadness, depression (for some) and then it kind of just settles in and you can go on with your life.

Naturally you saw dump trucks....where the hell else would they put all the garbage but in the worlds only island that has a secret identity as a landfill?

(Sorry...im in Arden Heights....anytime the thought of garbage comes up in any form, my nose gets mad) :)

But seriously...it was a horrible sight. And what was worse was going to spots where you need you could see the towers, and seeing just....emptiness. The ride through Brooklyn , as you come up to the city is particularly disturbing.

What annoys me most about the movie is.....

Oliver Stone was originally going to make a movie that showed the terrorists in a sympathetic light. But since all his movies lately have been notorious flops...he decided to make the movie that is currently out.

So my main beef is: Does the director actually believe in his work? or is this just phony money-making nonsense?

I did the see the movie the other night (My girlfriend worked at 1 Liberty Plaza...and was there during the attacks. For those not around NYC, 1 Liberty is directly across, maybe 100 feet from the towers...the first plane flew practically over her building. She was actually supposed to be in the 1st tower that morning....all the way up on one of the top floors...But was busy talking to me on the phone while I was getting ready for work, instead of doing her job. See...sometimes not doing your job and putting things off can save your life) :)

Anyway, we saw the movie. She felt like she "had to"...she said it helps her deal with what she went through.

In terms of a movie...its decent. Nothing overly dramatic. Not preachy. Not political in any way. A little boring at times. (not to be insensitive, but half the movie is the 2 officers trapped. Since you know the ending of the story...there is no drama involved. So i kinda wanted to fall asleep through a good 20 mins of it)

There are many points in the movie that are inspiring...and I think like some other posters mentioned, you rarely see the kind of behavior and attitude now, as you did then. The movie reminds you of the kind of self-sacrifice people exhibited then, which is so rarely seen since.

If you were Oliver Stone and you had the same resume post JFK, you wouldn't want to make a controversial movie either. The problem is that no one can make films anymore the way they want to due to studios and required support to make a film nowadays. I'm sure there was immense pressure on him to make a good film after Alexander, and it's well known that the guy actually can make movies. To me it's deplorable as well to make a movie about the event right now, and I felt the same way about United 93. I don't live in New York, I've never been there (regretfully), but having lost a brother and sister in Hurricane Katrina I have to agree that it's too soon. Just don't blame it all on Oliver Stone, what you're seeing in the theaters is probably not even his vision.

Just saw it.

Too somber. It was almost like watching Passion Of The Christ. Almost.

Rent this movie so you can remember in the privacy of your own home. Don't pay to feel the way you'll feel when you see it. If you see it.

Movie is a bit on the boring side a few times, but then again, you're watching two cops holding on waiting for help. So that is on purpose. Harsh cussing was unnecessary, and there were a couple of good laughs in the movie.

O. Stone makes sick movies, I'm glad he held back his sick ways.

My dad works a few blocks away from where the twin towers were and he felt something when the planes were flying in. I saw it happen on TV, my mom picked me up early from school for an appointment but we didn't go and I had to watch the news. One of the creepiest things I have ever seen was the towers falling from the sky like nothing. I was only 11, and I was seeing people flying out of buildings, people screaming and crying, I didn't know what to think.

I went to see Ground Zero and had to wait five hours to get in. It was so odd to see that something so big was now just a cloud of dust and debris.

I may not watch this movie if I do for a while to come. It's just too soon for a movie like this of this magnitude that effected all of us and that is still fresh on our minds. Right now, they probably want to make money just as with everything else and if one studio isn't going to make it, another one would.

Anyway, I was working several blocks away and I have a corner office with clear sight to the WTC. I just got into work and saw the plane flying. I was thinking to myself ... "what the [bleep] ... ". Anyway, in several minutes, people in my office was screaming, dust was approaching our building, I saw people jumping, and then another plane flying in the air. That rest of the day was very hard trying to get out of the area. But, it is nice to see the beginning phases of the construction of the new tower. However, it's just too soon in my opinion for the movie. And for everything that happened that day to everyone including myself, it is nothing compared to what all the families went through that day and for a movie to come now and bring back any of the pain and suffering; I just think at least they could have waited a little longer if nothing else out of respect.

P.S. At least the subways worked that day unlike on the day of the Blackout. I wonder if they'll have a move of that too.
