TwentySeven
Just wondering how you guys usually set up your batting order... Here is how I do mine: 1. Contact hitter or speedy guy... Someone like Jimmy Rollins, Carl Crawford, Jason Kendall, Mark Loretta. 2. Speedy guy or contact hitter. I put the opposite of what I pick above. This person usually has to have a little bit of pop. 3. My RBI guy. Doesn't need to be big on power, but has to be able to drive in the runs. Usually, I put someone with decent speed too, like A-Rod or Vernon Wells. 4. The power guy. Plain and simple, this guy is intended to hit homers. Travis Hafner, David Ortiz, etc. 5. Medium power + contact, a second RBI guy. This guy is similiar to #3, but the speed isn't as important. Someone like Nick Swisher, Robinson Cano, Milton Bradley. 6. If possible, this guy will be like #5, otherwise it will be more of a flat out contact hitter to drive in anybody remaining on base. Doesn't need as much power as #5 either. For AL: 7-8. The three worst hitters on the team, probably guys who aren't that fast either. This is someone like a bench player. 9. A speedy guy who might not be able to get good contact. If they can get on base, they can set up for the 1, 2, and 3 hitters well. For NL: 7-6. The worst hitters on the team, probably guys who aren't that fast either. This is someone like a bench player. 8. A speedy guy who might not be able to get good contact. 9. Pitcher for bunting if #8 is on base, otherwise, swing away for all I care. kgbaseball
1. Speed and contact. 2. Contact, contact, contact. 3. RBI machine. 4. Power guy. 5. Contact + power. 6. Guy that's not good enough to be my first choice for 1-5. 7. Same as 6. 8. Catcher for NL, anyone for AL. 9. Pitcher NL, poor man's leadoff hitter for AL. sfgiantsflgators
NL same, but pitcher ninth: 1. Speed & Contact 2. Contact 3. Best overall hitter 4. Power 5. Best remaining combination of Power and Contact 6-8. Best to worst overall hitters of the remaining three 9. Fastest guy on the team that's not in the 1-3 holes. Even if he might be a good enough hitter to be in the 6-8, he is placed here for his potential for being a second leadoff man.
Rags
currently...... 1- Kotsay (speed/contact) 2-Crosby (power...he's young and i gave him long term contract so i want him to get at bats) 3-Griffey JR (power, contact, decent speed) 4-Chavez (power, contact, decent speed) 5- Kendall (same as griffey/chavez to a smaller extent) 6- Izquiredo (he's a switch hitting rookie, great bunt skills, around a .300 avg) 7-Dan Johnson (power/average/no speed..he started off slow but he was my cleanup guy last year before i got griffey) 8-Nick Swisher (i just don't hit good with him in the game, but he's got strong defense at 1st base) 9-Charles Thomas (i hit great with him, he's got like a .340 average...no speed but he gets on base for the top of my order) it may not be conditional but it works good for me

Don
1. Has to get on base and has to have a great eye at the plate. Maybe some speed. 2. Atleast average speed and an good contact hitter. 3. Power hitter who can get on base and hit homers. 4. Power hitter straight and simple, doesn't get a lot of hits, but somebody who can drive the ball for doubles and homeruns. 5. Clutch ballplayer with a mix of contact and power. 6. Decent hitter. 7. Someone who may strikeout a lot, but who can also hit the ball exceptionally. 8. Worst hitter on the team. 9. Someone who can get on base with some speed aswell.
SwinginSoriano
In a videogame, a 'blitz' lineup (best hitters in front,, worst in back) works best. All offense is usual via homerun anyway. But, for the sake of realism I always do Major League style batting orders.

utahjazzno12fan
I set my defense first... Then I set my order. 1. 90+ speed... If more than one, I will look at best on base. 2. I like a lefty most of all.... if there is one with good contact. this helps with the hit and run to hit behind the runner. 3. Power hitter, with a good BA 4. Top Power hitter left, regardless of BA 5. Best Power Hitter left 6. Best power hitter left 7. Fastest guy left... 2nd leadoff hitter 8. Worst hitter (2nd worst if AL) --Hopefully to move the runner to 2nd if less than 1 out 9. Pitcher or Worst hitter
ixcuincle
I set my batting order as follows: 1 someone who can get on base (M. Scuttaro) 2 someone who can hit well (V. Castilla / G. Atkins) 3 someone who hits well (J. Guillen) 4 someone who hits home runs (K. Griffey Jr) 5 someone with power (D. Young / N. Johnson?) 6 someone who can't hit as well as 1-5 (A. Berroa / D. Cruz) 7 someone who can't hit well (J. Damon) 8 someone who can't hit well (B. McCann) 9 Pitcher Damon used to bat leadoff until I got angry at his struggles at bat and brought him down to 7. As you can see , I mostly neglect attibutes such as speed , and I don't run or steal a lot of bases with the first 5 either. :)
