Summary

After a horrible '04, The Blue Jays showed improvement in '05. After John Gibbons took over as manager, they improved 13 games in '05. For '06, GM JP Riccardi made moves to push for contention. Moves like accquiring Glaus, and Overbay, and signing Burnett and Ryan. After 11 years of finishing third place or under, the Blue Jays are ready to dominate the AL.

Meet the Jays (Batters)

Alex Rios

When drafted, Rios was said to have all the tools needed in making himself into one of the top OFs in the league. While he right now seems to have only XBH power, it is expected that HR power will soon come as his body builds. He can also be in the running for Gold Gloves in a few years.

Frank Catalanotto

Consistent preformer offensively. He is a great contact hitter. Frank is a very disciplined player who shows hustle and great work ethic. A problem with him is his lack of a good throwing arm.

Vernon Wells

Wells could create a new baseball position with the range he has in the OF. Like Rios, he is a 5 tool player, although more established. The knocks on Wells is that he is sometimes too aggresive at the plate. He tends to K alot and not Walk enough. The added protection from Glaus will make his numbers even better.

Troy Glaus

Could be a perennial Silver Slugger. Glaus at the plate is your typical power hitter, except he is known to take alot of pitches per AB. His defense at 3rd is very underrated, as he fields well for a big guy. He hopes to stay healthy this year to help push the Jays to the playoffs.

Lyle Overbay

Overbay is not your typical 1B. He has the build to be a slugger, but he usually displays gap power. He seems to be the most likely guy in the lineup to have a breakout year. He has above average OBP and defense

Eric Hinske

Another year, another position. Hinske has been a disappointment since his rookie year. He has the power to hit 20-30 HRs, but he hasn't had the chance for the longest while to show it. He can be patient at bat and has surprising speed. He has average defense

Bengie Molina

Definition of clutch hitting. He is a good contact hitter, who doesn't walk or K much. He has been known for great defense, but hasn't shown it in ST. He is one of the slower runners in the game.

Aaron Hill

This guy is one of those hitters that could fight for batting titles. He has a nice swing and always finds ways to get on base. He has decent speed, and defense. In his rookie year he was very streaky.

John McDonald

He is what he is, a backup IF that has been thrusted into the lineup due to Adams fielding problems and Santos' hitting problems. Lil Mac has always been known for his defense. The reason he is a backup though is because he is a poor hitter

Reed Johnson

Cat's platoon partner. Reed is very underrated. He shows great hustle. He makes good contact at the plate and did very well in ST as a leadoff man. Reed is known to be very clutch.

John-Ford Griffin

From his 2005 campaign he looks like he may become a hitter like Willy Mo Pena. There was a lot of hype since he was drafted because of his bat. He projects to be a DH because of his poor fielding. He has 30HR power but has never gotten the chance even at the age of 27

Gregg Zaun

A team leader who plays with alot of heart. He is a disciplined hitter who can hit for contact or power. He isn't that great against lefties, and he tends to lose his groove in the second half.

Meet the Jays (Pitchers)

Roy Halladay

Probably the best pitcher the Jays have ever had. Would've won another Cy Young award if he was not injured by Mench's line drive. He has a FB that he can pump up into the mid 90s, and a devastating curve, but his approach is to make hitters get themselves out. His only flaw is controlling the running game.

AJ Burnett

Potential ace. The guy has the best stuff in the majors, but what he lacks is control. He has a sizzling FB and a insane curve. What Burnett needs to do is proove he can stay healthy.

Ted Lilly

Lilly is a very fustrating pitcher at times. He can look like an ace one game, then look like a minor leaguer the next. Has a dirty curve that catches alot of batters looking. He is murder on lefties

Gustavo Chacin

The guy has his own cologne, so he has to be good :). Chacin is a very consistent pitcher. If the Jays get 6 runs he will give up 4, if the get 2 he will give up 1. He really doesn't have any dominating pitches, but has a decepetive delivery, and is also good on lefties.

Dustin McGowan

A top prospect. They say he can be as good as Halladay. Although he has 4 plus pitches, he doesn't have great control, and loves to overuse his FB. He needs to also get ahead of batters.

Shaun Marcum

Control artist. This guy has had great success in the minors due to his control. He projects to be a great #3 or #4 in a rotation

Brandon League

He can top 100 on the radar gun. His FB has movement, and he has a great changeup to compliment it. He seems to be a groundball pitcher. He can start or pitch in relief.

Jeremy Accardo

For an ex SS, he is one dominating pitcher. He was just an out of the blue prospect, who was signed as a free agent, then was a the best reliever in the SF farm system the next. He was being groomed as the Giants future closer, as he has great stuff.

Scott Schoeneweis

One of the better lefty specialists in '05. He doesn't have overpowering stuff but still is a great groundball machine. His problem is that he isn't really good against righties. He also seems to fold under pressure.

Brian Tallet

A former 2nd rounder who was accquired from the Indians. He doesn't have overpowering stuff, but he is a very smart pitcher.

Justin Speier

He would be a closer on alot of teams. Speier has a great forkball. He is effective against both righties and lefties. His flaw seems to be controlling the running game

Jason Frasor

For a small guy, he can really pitch. He can crank it up into the late 90s and has a curve that can be unhittable at times. His flaw is that he has low stamina.

BJ Ryan

Scary to hit against. Ryan is solid all around. When he finds a flaw in his work, hes always found a way to fix it. He thrives under pressure.

Scouting Report on Santana

4SFB, Change, Slider, Cutter. His changeup is the most devastating pitch in his arsenal. It comes out of his hand like his fastball but it ends up being around 17 mph slower.

Scouting Report on Halladay

4SFB, CFB, Curve, 2SFB, Slider. He has great command on all his pitches and they all have great movement. His best pitch is his Curveball. The curve starts at a batters arms, then drops to their knees over the outside black

For the Indians:

They get a starter who had a great year and ST

They get a faded prospect

They lose a guy who would be a backup outfielder

They lose a stud catcher who never got his chance

They lose a offensivly lacking catcher

For the Jays:

Their MIF is finally set

Their C spot is set for next year

They lose a potential great contact hitter

They lose a potential replacement for Speier next year

This game was a tight pitchers duel until the 7th. Halladay and Santana were exactly as dominating early on. The Jays thoguht they were gonna have a big inning in the 3rd, when Johnson hit a HR (which is all the Jays needed) then they got 2 guys on base, but a GIDP killed it. The game proceeded like before until Santana got in trouble and Kendrick hit a 2RBI double. Guerrier came in the 9th and gave up another run to give the Jays a bigger lead. Halladay ended up pitching a CG SHO. He struck out 9 and only gave up 4 hits

ph_120878.jpg vs ph_150359.jpg

Scouting Report on Radke

4SFB, Crv, Changeup, 2SFB, CChange

Radke relies on his 4SFB. He has pinpoint control and uses his changeup to disrupt batters. Radke is also known as a good fielder, he holds runners well and is good at taking bunts

Scouting Report on Burnett

4SFB, 2SFB, Changeup, KCrv, Slider

He relies on his fastballs. He usually pitches at around 97mph but he has hit 100 before. Burnett seems to have recovered from TJ surgery and is ready for this season. What Burnett needs to improve on is his control, and he needs to control the baserunners.

At first, this game looked like it would be a tight one. 2-0 after 4. Then Burnett started to struggle and gave up 4 runs. The Jays came back in the next inning to take the lead, but the Twins tied it up again right after. But when the 8th inning came, Reyes struck out 1 batter, then got walloped for 7 runs, which turned the game into a blowout and secured a win for League and the Jays.

League - Althoguh Griffin hit a GS, League did a good job of not giving up any runs after Burnett gave up 5.

Game #3 - Min @ Tor / 7:07PM

ph_400067.jpgvs ph_150404.jpg

Scouting Report on Silva

4SFB, 2SFB, Sinker, Slider

He's a pretty good ground ball pitcher. His best pitch is his sinker of course. Silva seems to preform even better in tight situations and isn't easily shook. The 1 thing that hurts him is how he tends to be a little to perfect with his pitches.

Scouting Report on Lilly

4SFB, Changeup, CRV, Slider

Lilly is a flyball pitcher. His best pitch is his dirty curve ball. Lilly has faced problems with control through out his career. He also is a question mark when it comes to his health. Lilly is a good fielder when he needs to be

Scouting Report on McClung

4SFB, 2SFB, Curve, Changeup

He is a flamethrower. He pitches in the mid 90s and has a good curve as well. He needs to learn how to control his pitches so he can last longer inhis games.

Scouting Report on Chacin

4SFB, Changeup, CRV, Slider, Sinker

Pitches to contact. He doesn't pitch very fast. He has a deceptive windup. He induces alot of grounders and is tough on left handers. His flaw is that he never usually lasts longer than 6 innings.
