dodgerffl
Hi, I'm new to the site and just trying to sort through all the different things you can do with the game. It's mind boggling. Until now, the only mod I thought you could make was to update the rosters. Anyways, I've played the game since it came out and I've played the comp at Pro level. Everyone here says they hit too many Hr's. I can always get singles and doubles, but I rarely hit any HR's. Also, when pitching, my control is too good and and thus, my pitching stats are like 1960's low. Another thing, how do you make your own mods? Do you have to be a computer science wizz or something? Thanks in advance.
JoeRudi26
To hit homeruns, look for something middle or middle in, and push up and in/out on the analog stick. Depending if you want to try to pull the ball or go opposite field. At least that worked for me. As far as making your own mods, there is a ton of information in the forums relating to 'mod making'. You can also find tutorials in the download section. Use the search function and read through the threads, the amount of info is astounding. And lastly, welcome to the site. :)
gimpy7816
i play with a keyboard and i have the same problem the guy above listed. i can hit singles and doubles like they're going out of style, but even when i wait for a fat pitch and i try to pull the ball and clobber it, it usually dies right in front of the fence...even with guys like vladdy guerrero or mickey mantle or reggie jackson. is there something on the keyboard that directs where ure hitting to or whatever like you described on the controller with the analog stick? i just have to press LShift to swing the bat, and LCtrl to bunt....is there something else I should be pressing to get a good HR swing going? bobbey
playing with most of the default keyboard settings if i see an inside pitch with a righty i can usually hammer it over the fence by holding 8 (up) and left (4) on the numpad.
gimpy7816
i play with just the keyboard. i dont use a gamepad. the gamepad i have doesn't work with the game well at all. i'll try it with the keys that are up and left for pitching and see if that helps me homer when im batting. thanks. abc006
I play pro most of the time and with just a keyboard too - for me, if there's a power hitter up or a guy i know can hit it out, i basically just push down 4 + 8 the whole at bat, unless I know there's a like pitch low and away. You don't need to wait for a "mistake" pitch, as i find those are always in spots hard to hit homers. Sometimes pitches just in the middle or top of the plate are better than mistake pitches. gimpy7816
yah, i just tried a homerun showdown cuz...well... i was playing my dynasty and i aaalmost cracked one with howie kendrick whole holding 8 and 4, but i wasn't sure it what side your guy bats on matters... later howie came up again and BOOM!!! as willie mays hays said in major league, "ooooooweeee that ball is outta here." that thing went over both anaheim stadium bullpens and all the seats behind it...almost left the park, and his power rating is only 68. i can't wait to start cracking some homers now with vladdy and others. going to be fun....after the howie homer, i had to verify that i was pressing the right keys so i did a homerun showdown and SMOKED a couple different guys. good times. if i get homerun hitting down, i can bump my difficulty back up to all-star. the only reason i dropped it back down was because if i couldn't hit a really good pitcher much, i couldn't get the timely homer to get some runs up. i usually only need 2 - 3 runs because i can pitch really well. thanks a lot guys!! gimpy7816
i've hit about 35 homeruns in 5 games. lol. thanks a million, i can't thank you enough. is there a way to slide with the keyboard tho? i can never slide, or get a lead from a base to steal one. those two things and pickoff moves...but i dont really care about pickoff moves that much. Edam
You can't lead off with the keyboard. To compensate, fiddle with "User Runner Steal Delay" in Gameplay Tuning. Try different minus numbers. As for stealing, see pages 3 and 4 of the manual for all the key combinations. Pickoffs are rare. I've only been able to do it 3 or 4 times. Number pad 0 + the left, right, or up keys, depending on which base you want to throw to.
gimpy7816
i'd look at pages 3 and 4 if i had them but i got this game used and the manual was gone when i got it. i figured most of it out so i didnt care...but when I found this site i figured someone has got to know on here. nobody i know plays this game. it's a shame, it's a great game. thanks for the pickoff move answer and telling me how to compensate for the leadoff. bobbey
you can lead and slide with the keyboard... i'll paste my config because im not sure exactly what does what anymore (config file is in my documents/mvp baseball 2005)...while on base, select whichever runner and hold right shift+4 on the numpad to lead, and right shift+6 on the numpad to retreat. To slide hold right shift+2,4,6,8 on the numpad for the different slides (headfirst, etc).
