K_45
I have a question regarding the srike zone. I noticed the orange, blue, clear boxes. WHat are the significances of the different colors? Do I strike at a certain color or what? Thanks
heathd521
Red = player's hot zone. Blue = player's cold zone. Clear = neither.
mrmariner
If you find the game to easy, you can turn hot / cold zones off. I play on allstar and have it turned off, I think it makes for better game play.
JoeyMcM93
Turning off the hot/cold zones and the strike zone has greatly immproved the game for me.

ronmexico
Whoa! You can do that? Where can I change that setting up?
D-Unit
It's in Visual Options under Gameplay Options, I believe. I play without strike zone or hot/cold zone and variable strike zone. So realistic.

So realistic. The variable strikezone pisses me off sometimes.. some games I can't get the call on the corners even though when I turn on the zone it hits the lines. heathd521
When would you say is a good time for a newbie to the game to turn off the strike zone? I have the game set on Pro and have multiple double-digit win streaks in my first season in dynasty, and it seems like the game is getting a little too easy. No strike zone, No hot /cold zone. It make for alot better game play. you will actually tense up when pitching, you can feel it in your body. The only thing I use is the pitch curser. heathd521
I turned both off and played a game in my dynasty, winning against the Cardinals 4-2. Randy Johnson went 6 innings, 5 hits, 2 ER and 7 K's, no walks. Mariano struck out the side in the 9th for the save. I think I can handle no strike zone and no hot/cold zones. K_45
A big thanks for the insight. I just started playing the game (of course not good yet) and that clears up one thing for me. Thanks again.
ronmexico
Out of curiousity. Do the zones still exist under these settings, and you just can't see them? or is it that therer are no zones, and all 9 zones are neutral.

Do the zones still exist under these settings, and you just can't see them? or is it that therer are no zones, and all 9 zones are neutral. Everything is completely invisible. It takes a little time to get used to, but to me it is more realistic. I play with just the pitch cursor on (in fade mode). I kept the strike zone on long enough I had learned where the 4 corners of the strike zone were (e.g. upper right part of the catcher's mask, upper left part of the catcher's shoulder, etc.). I also use the Behind-the-Pitcher view when I pitch which makes it easier for me to visualize the strike zone. When batting, I have to gauge myself which pitches are balls, which are strikes, and how close they are to the corners.
ronmexico
I understand that they are invisible, but are the players still hot and cold in the zones that they were hot and cold in?
xiberger
Of course.
ronmexico
Okie doke, then I think I will change that, to make my games more realistic. I was getting kinda sick of killing em on MVP.
Cash #25
I always liked the concept of the hot/cold zones because it was like having a scouting report on the hitter, however..........I agree, makes it way too easy. I turned it off also, and it's better. If you pitch a guy low and inside, for example, and he pounds a triple to the gap, you have to remember not to pitch him there anymore. Of course, you can always look at the lineup screen to see where those zones are, if you're really serious about not getting beat by Jim Thome this time.
