sh0ck
Before you begin... The first 4 posts contain fairly dynamic information on my dynasty. Please check these posts if you want to see updated standings, lineups, statistics, players of the week and so on. I've also been adding various comments below the images. I'll continue to add my comments until the max characters (if there is a max) forces me to delete. Enjoy and thanks for looking! The team isn’t necessarily a contender for the division title however at season’s start. However I believe we’re an outside shot for the wild-card. If at the trading deadline we’re a competitive team we will look adding a few “rentals†for cheap. However, good drafting and solid return on investments is the nature of this organization. Therefore no blockbuster style trades or free-agent acquisitions will be made during the first season. Profitability will determine off-season moves. sh0ck
Current Roster Pitching Rotation Comments: May 21st: Lots of changes in the pitching rotation because of injuries. I to call-up Zach Day and insert Billy Traber into the rotation because Michael O'Connor (out for 2 months) and Billy Lawrence (8 days) are out. My bullpen is really really thin so I've been stretching starting pitching as far as I can. I normally yank them at 60% or so but I've been leaving them until 50% which normally is 1 inning. It cost me the victory in the game versus the Orioles which I lost in the 9th inning. April 24th: I used Ayala for 1 batter against the Mets this week. He's allowed 3 HRs in 7.2 innings pitched and all my games have been close, so I couldn't afford to see if it was just bad luck or not. So he's been moved to MRP position and Gryboski has been bumped up to setup man. I may move over Wagner to setup man later on in the season because he's younger because both his and Gryboski's contracts are up at the end of the season. Wagner is 23 and Gryboski is 32 so the decision is already made at who I'm keeping at season's end. April 17th: Decided to keep the rotation as is. I'd hate to have to switch out Cordero from the closing spot but I may not have a choice. He has a very limited selection of pitches therefore I'm having trouble getting outs. The lack of pitches is definately playing a factor in his 6.75 ERA. Start of the year: Management was pleased enough with Billy Traber to place him in the bullpen on opening day. Hopefully his much-needed left-arm will last until another left-arm can be called from the minors. Batting Lineup: Comments: Start of year: May 21st: Brian Schneider has returned from his injury so that immediately helps out the bottom of the lineup with a little bit of pop. Also, because of Ryan Zimmerman's terrible hitting versus righties, I traded for Garrett Atkins who's been playing well against the right-handed pitching. However, that also means he's been getting a large amount of starts. I don't know how I'm going to juggle these two for the rest of the year. April 24th: Halfway through the week I noticed Guzman wasn't working out either, so I decided to platoon my SS's. I'm going to start trying to bunt for base hits more often with Guzman and hopefully that'll help him out a bit. No changes April 17th: I'm a little disapointed in Felipe Lopez' production and whenever Soriano gets on Lopez can never get the bunt down. So I'll try out Guzman and see how that works for me. Not many differences between the two lineups. Austin Kearns and Ryan Church will platoon in centerfield to start the season. Cristian Guzman should see a few starts because his blazing speed cannot be wasted sitting on the bench. He will be the go-to guy when a late-inning steal is needed. sh0ck
Standings Updated May 21st Comments: May 21st: Looks like the National League East is the weak sister division in the NL this year. I hadn't checked the standings in a while because of my recent poor play and I was surprised to see I was still in first place. The really funny thing is after another month of play, I'm still ahead by the same amount of games (1 1/2) but I'm 3 1/2 up on 3rd (I was 4 ahead in April). I'm really surprised that the Dodgers are 12 games under .500. I have recent trade deadline rosters so their lineup is good but they suck. Weird. April 24th: Atlanta also swept their series against the Phillies which really helped me as I gained 3.0 games in the standings. Arizona finally started losing so I'm only 2 games behind them in the wild card. I still think I'll have to win the division to make the playoffs. April 17: After about 2 weeks of play I'm in a much better position then I was after the 2nd series. I'm already 4 games out of the NL East lead and wildcard but hopefully I can salvage a win versus Arizone to close the gap in the wildcard. Right now it looks like we'll stay at about .500 all year. After 2 series: The Braves, Diamondbacks, Pirates and Giants are off to a lightning pace. Hopefully the Expos can turn it around or face being out of contention by mid-May. Statistics Updated May 31st Comments: May 31st: I'm still striking out way too much. But I've managed to raise quite a few of my starter's averages. I'm really happy with the middle of my lineup and because Vidro and Kearns are getting on base and Guillen and Johnson have been really good at cashing them in. As for pitching, Zach Day was a blessing, throwing 8 innings in his first start. No weak spots in the rotation. I'd like to get Patterson's win-loss record much better but for some reason I can't hit while he's pitching. April 24: I had a really tough time hitting against the top pitchers of the Mets even though I came out on top all three games. The team batting average dropped, Johnson is now hitting below .300 which means nobody in my starting lineup is hitting .300. I still have more strikeouts than hits which really irritates me. Pitching improves however. I'll adjust my sliders to reflect my pitchers performance. Perhaps move the CPU contact slider to +5 or so. I'm reluctant to move the CPU Batter Power however, I feel they "comeback" way to fast and too are dependent on HRs. April 21: I'm obviously quite dissapointed in Jose Vidro. I think his home runs early in the season had me over estimating his power, so I tend to take big rips with him regardless of the pitch. This is quite apparent with his ridiculous 21 SO's. Also, I hate seeing that I have more SO's than hits as a team. I try to stay patient at the plate but it doesn't always quite work The lack of steals is also hurting my run support. I tend to try and hit run which explains the Nick Johnson and Jose Guillen CS. My lineup is quite typical, homeruns in the middle with the exception of Soriano who oddly is also leading the team in RBIs. As for the pitching, I'm quite impressed with my starters, except Tony Armas. I have a serious issue with both my closers, Ayala and Cordero, where they both are at the bottom in terms of ERA. I am still getting used to playing with a NL team which makes me tend to pull my starter too early. I try to spread my innings out in the pen which is shown nicely here. I can't believe I just pitched in my first major league game! The guys were giving me a hard time, as expected, but I came through with seriously embarassing myself. sh0ck
April 18th by Nick Johnson I'm being called out in the media and I'm not happy about it. I know I'm struggling but if coachie has a problem he should come talk to me directly. I started off with 15 hits in my first 8 games, obviously everyone expects lots from me after a start like that. Me and Jose are veterans on the team. We shouldn't be treated like that, you know?
