Pitch effective balls,steal bases

I play MVP 2005 on PC with keyboard and I have two main troubles in the gameplay.

1. How can I pitch good balls? I mean,every time I go out of the "orange zone" on the pitch meter to get the ball outside the plate and fool the batter I get the yellow cross which means "bad pitch" and hitters never swing. On the other hand, the keyboard numbers only allow me to aim to the plate for a strike...in a word:how can I pitch effective balls?

2. I never stole a base in 2 dinasty season...is there a way to take one step off the bases on keyboard? Or more simply...is there a way to steal using the keyboard??

Thanks in advance for the help!

To tell the runners to advance/steal, press Page Up, to retreat press Page Down. To pitch an effective ball hold Right Shift while aiming. PLEASE READ THE MANUAL!

Carp, as a fellow keyboard user there can be some interesting challenges.

1) Hold down right shift when you aim (ie. hold shift and location, then pitch)- should this not work, try re-assigning it to say - left shift (which is my personal preference). You should be throwing outside the zone in no time.

2) search for the forums for editing for keyboard leadoffs. Then you should be able to get a good lead and steal (i've forgotten how to do this - you need to edit a controller file and assign your keyboard leadoff manually - there are better worded examples on the web/in this forum)

Cheers

how to steal... better use search forum:

"how to slide" or any you need to search you will find!

and you can edit your slider in your mvp 2005 pc to boost more stole bases if you want

i did edit slider and searched for how to slide and copy controller (assign)

it worked! first about 40 games i have stole more than 50 in first season!

I don't think a leadoff is possible with a keyboard, although Im not too sure. Also, pitching out of the zone is pretty hard cuz it misses by pretty far using "aim outside (R Shift by default i believe)" button. However, for sinker, change, curve, you can make it go low down the middle and it works pretty fine.

Right - took me 10 minuntes to find but i found it - the keyboard leadoff fix (sorry if its been posted before)... it can be a bit confusing to read - dont blame me i only copied this in.

Go to My Documents > MVP Baseball 2005 folder

Open controller.cfg with notepad

***BE VERY CAREFUL***CREATE A BACKUP IF POSSIBLE***

Look for the line containing whatever key profile you want to edit. for example, I use Keyboard profile 1, so I look for:

profile= Keyboard_Profile_1

Now slowly scroll until you see

VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_RIGHT=

VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_LEFT=

VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_UP=

VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_DOWN=

Those have something after them to indicate its blank (i think its a -1 ?), and those are the controls for the right joystick. I replaced them like so:

VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_RIGHT= key sc_numpad6

VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_LEFT= key sc_numpad4

VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_UP= key sc_numpad8

VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_DOWN= key sc_numpad2

Whatever key you use, make sure it's "key sc_" before the key, just like I have.

BTW, you may have noticed that those are the default base stealing controls. I changed those to the following. I was upset that every time I try to hit a homer the guy would run to second and usually get thrown out if I swung and missed, or doubled off in a lineout.

VPAD_RUNNER_RUNFIRST= key sc_numpad3

VPAD_RUNNER_RUNSECOND= key sc_numpad9

VPAD_RUNNER_RUNTHIRD= key sc_numpad7

VPAD_RUNNER_RUNHOME2SCORE= key sc_numpad1

So 3 runs to first, 9 to 2nd, 7 to 3rd, 1 to home. It's a bit confusing at first, but it's the best system. Period.

For the record, this is how you do directional steals too. Straight headfirst, straight feet first, or to the sides with a diagonal combo. Press right shift. You have to do this a good while before the base or else he'll default slide or no slide at all.
