Pitching vs. Hitting

Recommended Posts

In my dynasty, I am at the trading deadline, about ten back in my division. I have average pitching and hitting, but I have good defense. I can make a deal to get a few quality pitchers, like a starter and two relievers, or I can get two or three good bats. Which do you guys think will help me more? Assume that I can get either pitching or hitting but not both.

Would you mind posting your 25 man roster? I think I could help you. I made a D-Rays dynasty and made a few moves that have kept my team at .500 for the first half of the season so far.

Personally, since you have a good defense, go with the pitching because it can be more effective. Your pitching will be able to use that defense but not your hitters. Also, you don't wanna ruin your defense and by getting pitching you won't.

I have a really good bullpen, I think.

Anyways here are the games rankings, though I think they don't really fit.

Pitching = 29

Hitting = 18

Fielding = 2

Speed = 2

Lol, I don't know why you guys would say he needs another bat. He'll soon become the Yankees.

You need another Starter... I mean Moyer as your 3rd starter? I would improve my bullpen and get another starter thats a #2.

Moyer is a very good 3rd starter. Also, the bottom of his lineup looks a little weak, its a dramatic drop off for his hitters. Its a good lineup but he's got a bunch of lead-off hitters and no real power hitters besides Sexson & Bay.

Then what about the Oakland A"s... they have what? Chavez and Thomas?

Power is not the most important thing in a line-up. Its the way the players compliment the lineup. Not every team can be stacked like the Yankees.

Podsednik

Abreu

Bay

Sexson

Hunter

Zimmerman

Wilson

Biggio/Matheny

Biggio/Matthey/Pitcher

How is that a bad lineup?

His bullpen is brutal, I agree on that.

He just asked how to improve it. I never said that his team was bad or nothin. The A's also have Swisher. Another thing, if you've ever read moneyball, the main stat is OPS, which is on-base + slugging. Slugging is an imortant stat because it is the run driving capability of a hitter, while just getting on base is only half the offense. The A's have been loaded before but this year they just don't have a pop filled lineup.

Get a setup man, and get a shortstop...or a catcher if you can. I wouldn't settle on one or the other. Consider trading Scott-Pod or Melky.

Do you know who Brandon League is?! He is a 23 year old fireballer who currently plays for the Jays with lots of potential. I say keep him. Trade for a shortstop and a better 5th starter.

The walk factor cannot be compared to in-game. The walks are controlled by the person playing the game, not by the skills of the players. Its totally different between real life and game because every single hitter is himself in real life and not just someone controlling them.

But no, we've never been loaded with offense. We're always near the bottom when it comes to RS.

hey im a venezuelan and the best thing that you can`t do is a trade for vizquel you can maintain your defense and also have a natural second bat and put abreu third. you will have a great one two three

I like Monza's thinking. That is a good plan, or you could hit Biggio 2nd, cause he's a good 2nd hitter and go after a pitcher or 2. Also, you can hit abreu, 3rd, 5th or 6th, what ever your preference is.

Abreu can hit really well anywhere, IMO. He has good enough contact to hit third or second, but the speed of some leadoff guys.

Alright guys, thanks for the help. Picked up Vizquel, J. J. Putz, and Esteban Loiza. Will see how it goes in a few games.
