Hayman19
Ok heres the deal, i wanted to install a fresh, new version of windows xp, so i popped in my new xp disc, clicked install..yadda yadda yadda....my pc restarts and goes into the setup screen. I clicked on the repair install and before the % bar even gets to one percent, i get some error about some missing dll file, and i am forced to cancel the installation. I click out of the setup and restart my pc, and just after it finishes some thing comes up and i have 2 choices, boot windows xp home(which i had previously installed when i bought my pc) and there is another one, setup windows xp professional). When i try to install the setup again i get the same message so i reboot my pc and choose to boot up windows xp home. Everything seems fine except my resoloution is changed and made everything huge. So i thought no biggie, changed it and it was fine. However, when i open firefox and want to scroll down the page, everything seems much, much slower. For example you can see like the top of the website as it scrolls down(its hard to explain, but its not like rediculously slow, but it just bugs the crap outta me). So i figured ok w/e i can live with that, but then, i go to play a video on windows media player( and try the same video with every other media player i have) and the video is really, really slow. Before i attempted the install, everything worked fine, the video was running at the normal speed, but now its pretty unwatchable. So im wondering, is there any way to uninstall the files of the windows xp professional(the one i tried to install) because i know theres something to do with that thats slowing my pc down. Also everytime i reboot, that stupid multi boot menu thing comes up, is there any way to remove that? Im really screwed on this and have no idea where the new files(if there are any) that the professional version installed, and i dont wanna start deleting random files. Sorry for the long post, but can someone please, please help me? Is there any way to go back to the way it was? BTW ive used multiple program utilities that usually would improve the speed of my pc, and none of them have any effect on playing movies.
fenway389
Maybe you could try System Restore.

JoeyMcM93
Your coputer sets them automatically. Look in the system restore menu and there should be some.

BigDom
They usually make automatic ones by itself. EDIT--- Didn't respond for a while, and then seen Joey's response... SORRY
ronmexico
Nah I had this same problem until today. Don't go crazy and do any system restores like I did. I restored it back to factory settings and I still had the same issues. What I did today (and praise the lord, my comp is as blazing fast as the day I got it) is I ran a scandisk. Also I used this one software TweakNow RegCleaner Pro, which is free for 30 days. My comp cleared out everything completely unnecessary and my comp is fresh again. Also, if that don't work, you can go a step further and do a defragmentation. Then set the Icon Cache at 2048 and rebuild your Icon Cache.
Kccitystar
Screw that, what .dll file is missing? Maybe you can copy that back into the System32 directory and get things working again. A while back I broke my Windows XP by removing the nvidia drivers accidentaly and my PC would not start. I had to download the .sys files to my thumb drive and get that to work. angryrat
instead of repairing the install, just start over with a fresh install after formatting your current drive. its the cleanest way to go.

44bigpun
Just an added note a nice little program to keep your computer clean and be able to tweak things with ease in the start up and a reg cleaner is crap cleaner. I have run it on many of the computers I support and I really like it and have had no issues. Check it out it is very user friendly. Best of all it is free, but it is a good program and they do take donations. http://www.ccleaner.com/
Lucas
Don't bother with professional. There are more options in XP Home.
