JuUaAn
Hey everyone, I was looking through my roster and I see players with their 2nd position as UTIL or as IF. What is the difference between the two? IF is any infield position I assume. So what's UTIL? Able to play every position? Some clarification would be appreciated. Thanks. evil1182
Utility player's is a sort of jack of all trades, one who can play several positions.

Correct, UTIL can play every position except pitcher. They can even catch, though I don't recommend that.
JoeyMcM93
Man is that true. I once put Miguel Cairo behind the plate. 5 stolen bases. I learned my lesson the hard way I guess.
Edam
Miguel Cairo is a good example, as far as the Yankees go. He can play just about any infield position.
BigDom
Brandon Inge used to be a Utililty Player, he could play all the infield positions, all the outfields, and could even catch....
kgbaseball
I'm not 100% positive, but I think I've noticed in MVP that if a player is playing a position other than the ones speficially given to him in MVPEdit or the CAP screen, their defensive attributes lower. So, for instance, if you have Cairo playing catcher, his defensive rating goes down. Like I said, I'm not sure about that, but I remember seeing that in the game. So adding the IF or UTIL to a player can have a big effect on his defense, depending on where you play him.
JuUaAn
So I'm correct then? IF can play any infield position and UTIL can play any position at all except for pitcher?
HENNLAYSEGG
Yes, thats correct.
kgbaseball
They don't necessarily have to play the position you give them. You could play a 2b/IF in the outfield and the game would allow it. The positions are just used as a reference.
