I'll show you an example of what Auto Levels can do to a picture, and then maybe you know of a function in GIMP that's similar. This makes a huge difference, especially in game with portraits, so I imagine it'd help with cf's a lot as well. Could you rotate his face a little to the left so it is level and easier to map. Does he have that much of a 5 o'clock shadow? I say get rid of it or maybe blend it to his face a little better. I think Mark Ellis looks a lot like the generic face 901 so in my opinion, there's no rush on him.
