TwentySeven
For you fantasy draft people, what order do you usually do your drafts? Personally I go: 1. Ace Pitcher - Enough said 2. Good hitter - The centerpiece of your order, this guy will hit in your 3 or 4 spot. 3. Good hitter - You can get the guy to hit in your other 3-4 spot, or get a leadoff hitter 4. #2 starter - get a lefty if your ace isn't already a lefty 5. Good hitter - if you don't already have a 3-4 guy, get one, otherwise grab a leadoff hitter. 6. #3 starter 7. Catcher/#2 hitter. If you get a catcher, go for fielding. If you get a #2 hitter, go for high contact. 8. Closer - Get someone you can stick in the top of your bullpen to shut the other team down. 9. #2 hitter/Catcher. See #7 10. #4 starter 11. Fill in defensive/offensive hole. 12. Same as 11 13. Set-Up guy. 14. Same as 11 15. #5 starter 16. Fill in what should be your final hole if you are AL. NL, grab a good bench player. 17. Bullpen guy, try to get a lefty. 18. Grab another starter, this guy will be your long reliever. 19. Grab a bench guy, it would be smart to get a top level backup catcher. 20. Another bench player, try to grab one who can hit 21. Final bullpen guy 22. Bench IF 23. Bench OF 24 - 25. Use these spots to grab anything you feel you might be weak in. If your starting rotation has little depth, grab another pitcher. If you have a weak bench batwise, grab hitters. Likewise for fielders. If you feel you have generally good depth, grab a pinch runner and another pitcher.
DoubleD
I draft 12 strait pitchers first. Best tip for pitchers are getting Relief Pitchers with low stamina. They're "total rating" thing is ofcoarse lower then starting pitchers because of less stamina, but they normally have better stuff. I'll generally draft my 5 SP, then a true closer, then 5 RP with 1 last SP somewhere imbetween the 5 RP as an 'incase' starter. The reason I get all my pitching out of the way is because you can get a lot of good hitters at the end of the draft. This is EXPECIALLY true with the default MVP 2005 rosters, but not so much with UR. The following is with the latest version of UR Two catchers - can normally wait until pick 24 and 25 for this. I perfer Csote (Decent hitter, good arm) for my main catcher although there are several others you can choose from. I'll then get Walker as my second catcher with my last pick. 1b - Julio Franco 2b - Omar Infante SS - Alex Cora 3B - Rich Aurila Back up corner fielder - Wes Helms Back up middle infielder - Miguel Cairo bunch of other infielders I can't really think of at the moment. OF depends a lot on what's drafted or not. I almost always draft all my out fielders after drafting my pitching, since all the infielders are pretty low in total ratings. RF - Rondell White or Carl Everett, or Gnomes if he isn't taken yet. Juan Rivera another choice LF - Scott Podsedik, Marcus Thames antoher choice CF - Dave Roberts, or Nook Logan if he isn't taken yet (And dave roberts as back up OF, mostly for pinch running) If doing a team with a DH, I'll get a star 1B (Since there's several of them) as 2nd, 3rd, or 4th pick, then either play him at 1b and DH franco or vise versa. I'm a believer that pitching wins ballgame, so I make sure I have the best pitching possible and good enough hitting to score just enough runs This is on MVP difficulty
