Santana Rights Ship, Dominates Sox

The Twins turned to their ace pitcher to get things back on track, and he responded with a complete game win over the Chicago White Sox today. The Twins chased Mark Buerhle early on with 7 earned runs in just 5 and 1/3 innings pitched. The biggest culprit was Michael Cuddyer who turned in a 5/5 day with 3 RBI. "This was a nice win for us, especially with the events of today, having to send Liriano down to AAA. It was good for our team to bounce back from yesterdays loss and get a nice win on the road against a division foe." Gardenhire said. Cuddyer had been struggling at the plate this season, but got his average up over .300 with his performance today. Said Cuddyer, "I was just locked in, today was one of those days where everything seemed to just slow down for me. I did't want the game to end, but hopefully this will help me turn my season around." With the win the Twins moved back to .500 on the year at 8-8, but with the loss the defending champion White Sox fell to 5-11. These two teams have 2 more games left in this series.

Radke Pitches Well,But Not Well Enough

Brad Radke had another strong performance for the Twins today, unfortunately Javier Vazquez had just a little bit stronger of a performance. The White Sox were able to knock off the Twins 4-3 today, thanks in large part to the 7 innings pitched by Vazquez. Radke on the other hand pitched 6 and 1/3 innings of basebll, and looked good doing it. Tad Iguchi again proved to be a thorn in the Twins side today with 2 RBI's in todays game, including what would prove to be the game winner in the bottom of the 7th. Mauer hit his team leading 5th homerun in the 4th inning, but the Twins just couldn't put the White Sox away. The series is now tied at a game apiece, and the 3rd and final game of this series will be held tomorrow. Carlos Silva will take the mound for the Twins, while the Sox have yet to name their starter. It is believed to either be Freddy Garcia, or Jose Contreras.

Contreras Outduels Silva

The Minnesota Twins suffered another hard luck loss today to the Chicago White Sox. The Twins just weren't able to hold off a late charge by the Sox who would score 3 late runs to win the game 3-1. The Twins would get the scoring started in the 3rd inning with a Louis Castillo solo homer, but that would be all they would be able to get off of Contreras who was dominant for 7 innings, and the White Sox bullpen would take over from there, picking up where Contreras left off in shutting down the Twins offense. "We just ran into a pitcher who had been struggling, but got things together tonight. We were able to rough up Buerhle in the first game of the series, but we couldn't really do much offensively for the last 2 games of this series." said Gardenhire, "Things will turn around for us, we never give up and seem to always be battling back. But once our pitching turns around and gets some consistency our offense shouldn't be far behind." Silva pitched well the entire evening gong 7 1/3 innings and allowing 3 runs, 2 of which were earned. Catcher Joe Mauer added, "Silva pitched well out there tonight, unfortunately our offense was no where to be found, and he gets a loss to show for his great performance."

Down On The Farm

Francisco Liriano made his AAA debut last night, going 7 1/3 innings striking out 7, while walking one, and allowing 2 runs. The Twins GM offered no comment on Liriano's performance, but said that he will not be rushed back, and won't be back until he's proven he will be able to be consistent.

Twin Talk

Silva:"It wasn't coaches fault, I had nothing left and still told coach I wanted to go back out there, I take responsibility for that."

Gardenhire:"Well I wasn't going to leave him out there for the 7th inning, but he just went through the 6th so quickly only needing 6 pitches to do it in, I figured I'd give him one more inning."

Rough start, huh? Hopefully things will come around for you, the offense needs to step up.

You should put Nevin at 3B, he adds a lot of offense and is a UTIL with solid D.

Thanks for the comment. This dynasty for whatever reason doesn't seem to be all that popular, but oh well..the show must go on.

As for Nevin, sometimes I do put him in at 3rd, and move Punto so short, and then play J.T. Snow against righties. But I don't do it always, b/c Snow's not so great against lefties, but I may end up doing it more often though b/c Jason Bartlett has just sucked tremendously so far. I wish friggin' Morneau didn't get hurt, it would make things so much easier.

Mav, Keep up the great work. I keep my eye on it daily looking for game results. I cant play that much myself being a stay at home Dad with a six month old. anyway, it was a dissapointing start for Liriano, but hopefully will come around. Another observation was The always inconsistent Rondell "O for" White needs to sit pine until he can step up game in and out. look forward to more action.

Thanks for the input, I liek it.

Only problem with sitting White is that he's actually hitting .329 so far this season for me. He hasn't been consistent, but he's got decent numbers so far.

The real dissapointment is Jason Bartlett and his .190 batting average. I want to give him a chance, but he's constantly 0/4 all the time. If he doesn't change soon though he'll be on the pine.

Twins Waste Great Performance By Baker

Scott Baker had a tremendous debut for the Twins allowing just 1 run in 5 innings, but the bullpen was unable to hold the lead and the Twins blew a game to the Royals they should have won. Baker was pulled after just 5 innings, and Guerrier was brought in to protect the lead. After a quick 6th inning, Guerrier was left out for the 7th inning and after getting 2 outs he hung a curveball that Joey Gathright put over the right field wall to tie the game at 2. Guerrier would be left out there for the 8th inning, but would only face one batter. It turned out to be one batter too many though, as Mike Sweeney hit a 1-2 pitch into the fountains to give the Royals a 3-2 lead that would prove to be the difference. Baker said, "I felt great out there. I had good command, but that first inning caught up to me in the 5th and I was just too tired to continue. " Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was unavailable for comment after the game. The Twins held a player/coaches only meeting to try and work out some of their kinks before the season gets out of hand. After starting out 6-2 the twins are now 8-11 and are only ahead of the Royals in the central division. The Twins still have 2 more games left in this series against the Royals, and if things don't improve, they could find themselves in the cellar before they leave town.

Twins Offense Forgets To Show Up, Bullpen Blows It Again

The Minnesota Twins came to play today against the Kansas City Royals. Unfortunately the Offense must have gotten lost on the way to the stadium becasue the Twins failed to do any scoring on their own. They did manager to score 2 runs off of Odalis Perez. One via a bases loaded hit batter, and another on a bases loaded walk. The Twins were only able to muster 5 total hits on the evening, and none until the 5th. The lack of offense spoiled an outstanding outing by Boof Bonser who would go 6 innings, allowing just 4 hits, and only 1 run. The lead would actually hold up at 2-1 until the bottom of the 9th where Twins closer Joe Nathan was only able to get 1 out while giving up 2 runs, including the game winner thanks to Doug Mientkiewicz. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire says that Nathan will no longer be the closer of the team, and will instead be moved to a middle relief role until he can be more consistent. Matt Guerrier will be relegated to the setup role. "With Nathan in middle relief, and Guerrier being the setup guy, it should help us shorten some games. We can bring in Guerrier in the 7th inning and get 2 innings out of him, and then hand it over to Rincon." said Gardenhire. One thing is for certain though, if the Twins don't score any runs, it will not matter who is the closer.

Above: This was the only way the Twins could score, the Royals get the game winning hit.

Twin Talk

Mauer:"Our offense is terrible right now. We can get the hits, but we can't produce any runs."

Gardenhire:"Well, he won't be closing any more games for us anytime soon. To have an E.R.A over 6 as a closer is totally unacceptable. Juan Rincon will take over that duty for us."

redsx2434 : Thanks, I appreciate the comment.

drbeep97 : yeah, these loses suck. but at least its still early in the season, and there is plenty of time to turn it around. but first liriano, and now nathan, and no offensive production, it's killing me.

dunit : i sure hope so, this is frustrating. but at the same time it's fun b/c i'm not winning every game, but i'm also not losing every game either. so it seems realistic.

to all : just to screw around for a min after I saved my dynasty I wanted to see who I could trade for that would help out my offense while giving up the least. and with fair trades on, and all that good stuff...the nationals accepted Brad Radke, and in return they gave me Alfonso Soriano. I was shocked. Now I'm thinking about possibly making the trade once liriano is able to return from AAA and be consistent. but i'm not sure if i will b/c i want it to be at least somewhat realisitc.

dunit : the outfield is performing well, but the problem is the lack of production, namely from Torii Hunter...while he is batting .289 which isn't bad, he has no homers though, and only 1 RBI and that was a bases loaded walk...so the #'s are a little deceiving.

8ball : SS is a major weakness for me right now, but what I'm thinking of doing is just waiting till morneau comes back, play him at first, and put Nevin at 3rd, and Punto at SS. or maybe getting a new one, i don't know yet..

Have you tried playng Kubel at all? i would be careful giving up any more pitching with the lack of help already. The games will start to turning soon, every season i have played with them has started the same way. Crain is about the best long man you have from what i have found, also bartlett likes fastballs and changeups and will hit up the middle 75% of the time on those two pitches. keep up the good work.
