Pool 3, Round 1

Feller's Two-Hitter Sends Indians To Round 2

62ang48indbx0.png

bouhrar3.png

The Indians didn't wait for an invitation, opening up the scoring in the first frame on a solo home run

by Lou Boudreau. The "blast" went just far enough, hitting the bottom of the foul pole down the right

field line.

bouglya4.png

Boudreau made an impact in the field as well. Here he makes a diving catch on a line drive by Felix

Torres in the third inning.

gorvs3.png

Joe Gordon would add the second of five Indian runs with a solo shot to right field in the third inning.

errtg8.png

The Angels were very imperfect on this day, committing three errors - all by the infielders. This error,

made by Felix Torres in the fifth inning , allowed Bob Feller to score the third Indians run as Ken

Keltner reached first base safely.

Scoring

B1: Boudreau solo HR

B3: Gordon solo HR

B5: Keltner reaches safely on an error by Torres, Feller scores

B7: Boudreau double scores Doby; Robinson sacrifice fly scores Boudreau

W - Feller L - Chance

Players of the Game:

Lou Boudreau 3-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI (triple short of the cycle)

Pool 3, Round 1

Giants Bullpen Can't Tame Tigers In 5-4 Loss

76tig05giaao9.png

horva5.png

Willie Horton opened the scoring early, plating Ron LeFlore with a single in the first inning.

merbh2.png

Sam Mertes tied the game 2-2 with a single in the fourth, scoring Dan McGann and Mike Donlin.

McGann had reached safely on an error by Tigers shortstop Tom Veryzer, going all the way to third on

the wild throw. Donlin was then intentionally walked before stealing second, setting up a second and

third situation for the Giants.

browfm4.png

George Browne gave the Giants a 3-2 lead in the fifth with an inside-the-park home run. Browne hit a

line drive into the mammoth right center field gap at the Polo Grounds and never looked up as he tore

around the bases, scoring easily without a throw.

roddu5.png

Aurelio Rodriguez brought the game back to even for the Tigers with a solo home run in the seventh

inning.

mcgqd4.png

Dan McGann comes home on a sacrifice fly by Sam Mertes in the bottom of the eighth, giving the

Giants a 4-3 lead with one inning to play.

suthuq2.png

Giants closer George Ferguson pitched well in the eighth, but his luck would run out in the ninth as

the Tigers rallied for two runs and a 5-4 victory. The go-ahead run was driven in by Gary Sutherland

(pictured) with a liner right back up the middle, scoring Bruce Kimm.

Scoring

T1: Horton single scores LeFlore

B4: Mertes single scores McGann, Donlin

Well...

this could be the end of Total Classics Madness.

For some reason, it's a crap shoot now deciding whether or not I can finish a game. There were no problems with Pools 1 and 2, and I've never had problems with MVP in general, but starting with the second game of Pool 3 (Indians/Jays), the game has started to randomly crash. No two instances have been the same - innings, players, teams, etc.

I'm not an expert, so I don't know where to start looking. Tomorrow, I'll try to reinstall TC6 and see if that fixes it. If not, well, that's my only idea.

I'll post the Yankee game sometime as it froze on the last out - so I finished the game, but couldn't get a shot of the final linescore or run the box score extractor. Other than that, the game was official.

Wish me luck.

I was able to finish the Twins/Braves game, so we'll see if the game decided to un-F itself.

I'll post the results of the two games in a bit.

This is sweet, but my Marlins lost :'(

Besides that everything is awesome. :)

Glad you like it :D

Hopefully whatever was causing the game to screw up has disappeared and we can get back to the games.

Pool 3, Round 1

Yankees Put Up A 10-Spot On Halos, Advance To Round 2

onnp6.png

The Yankees hit every value of home run today, beginning with a two run shot by Paul O'Neill in the

first inning...

brogf2.png

...followed by a three run shot by Scott Brosius in the second.

marsw6.png

With a 5-1 lead in the third, the Yankees continued to pour it on the Angels when Tino Martinez blast-

ed a grand slam into the upper deck in right field.

willmf8.png

With nothing left to prove, and a 9-1 lead, Bernie Williams added a solo shot in the seventh for good

measure. The Yanks would go on to win 10-2.

Scoring

T1: DeCinces sacrifice fly scores Downing

B1: O'Neill two run HR

B2: Brosius three run HR

B3: Martinez GS

B7: Williams solo HR

T8: Hendrick single scores Schofield

W - Clemens L - Witt

Game Notes:

Ruppert Jones left the game in the bottom of the fourth after colliding with the wall in an attempt to

catch a fly ball by Jorge Posada. The relay would hold Posada at first.

Pool 3, Round 1

Niekro K's 11, But Twins Pull Out 2-1 Victory

69brav87twinlk0.png

cart1xs0.pngcart2mo9.png

In a little bit of foreshadowing for the Braves, what looked to be a disastrous start for the Twins turn-

ed out to be nothing more than an out in the box score. Leading off the second inning, Rico Carty hit a

line drive right back at Minnesota starter Frank Viola that deflected off his chin (left) and popped up in

the air. Second baseman Steve Lombardozzi reacted quickly, reaching the errant projectile and secur-

ing it for an out. Viola would wave off the trainers and continue to pitch effectively, earning the victory

with seven strong innings of work.

gaehv2.png

Gary Gaetti got the Twins on the board in the second inning with a solo shot to left field.

pucvc1.png

Kirby Puckett gave the Twins a little breathing room - that it turns out they would need - with a RBI

single in the sixth, scoring Dan Gladden.

millii9.png

The lone Atlanta run today came on a solo home run by Felix Millan off Viola in the eighth inning - it

was the last batter Viola would face.

Scoring

B2: Gaetti solo HR

B6: Puckett single scores Gladden

T8: Millan solo HR

W - Viola L - Niekro S - Reardon

Players of the Game:

Gary Gaetti 2-3, 2B, HR, RBI

stakv3.png

Rusty Staub put the Astros out in front early with a solo shot in the first inning.

bentw8.pnggriry1.png

Stellar defense kept the Reds in the game, with two of the best plays coming in the third and fourth

innings. First, Johnny Bench (left) went superman, making a spectacular play on a foul bunt by Mike

Cuellar in the third. In the fourth inning, Ken Griffey (right) made a sliding catch, robbing Rusty Staub

of a hit.

asppj6.png

Houston took a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning on a single by Sonny Jackson, scoring John Bateman and

Bob Aspromonte (pictured).

fosvk7.png

The Reds finally got on the board in the seventh on a solo home run by George Foster, making the

score 3-1.

benhrfu0.pngperzv3.png

Trailing by two in the ninth, Cincinnati started the rally with a solo home run by Johnny Bench (left).

blast to left field, winning the game 4-3.

Scoring

T1: Staub solo HR

leave the game later that inning after his first pitch to Pete Rose. No news is available on the extent

of the injury. Rose would strike out to finish the at bat and the inning.

first run of the inning with a double to left center, scoring Sammy Hale. A single by Al Simmons would

Pool 3, Round 1

Yankees Outlast Mets In Offensive Battle 6-5

84met96yankcm5.png

str1dp4.png

The first run of the game would be scored by the Mets when Hubie Brooks drove in Darryl Strawberry

with a single in the first inning.

rai1xa0.png

Down 2-1 in the third, the Yankees tied the game on a solo home run by Tim Raines.

petji2.pngsantdpew1.png

(Left) Andy Pettitte struggled today, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits before being pulled

in the fourth. (Right) Pettitte would get Rafael Santana to ground into a double play, scoring Hubie

Brooks, before facing his last batter of the day, opposing pitcher Dwight Gooden. Typical of the day

Pettitte was having, he allowed a single to Gooden, scoring Mike Fitzgerald for a 4-2 Mets lead.

on1hb3.pngdunhd8.png

(Left) In the bottom of the fourth, it looked as though Paul O'Neill would pull the Yankees within one

with a solo home run, but for the moment fate continued to look down poorly on the Bombers as the

ball bounced off the top of the wall and O'Neill was held to a double. (Right) The next batter, Mariano

Duncan would make that point moot, blasting an opposite field no-doubter for a 4-4 tie.

str2rc2.pngon2sd3.png

(Left) Darryl Strawberry gave the Mets yet another lead with a solo shot in the fifth inning. (Right) But

Paul O'Neill would accomplish what he fell short of in the fourth, clearing the right field wall for a game-

tying home run.

rai2lu8.png

The final lead of the game would be taken by the Yankees in the bottom of the seventh when Tim

Raines hit his second home run of the day, putting the favored Yankees up 6-5.

marnn8.png

Representing the go-ahead run, Jerry Martin (in for an injured George Foster, who left in the first

inning) hit a weak pop-up to second baseman Mariano Duncan, ending the game for the Mets.

Scoring

T1: Brooks single scores Strawberry; Fitzgerald single scores Foster

B2: Duncan single scores O'Neill

B3: Raines solo HR

T4: Santana grounds into 6-4-3 DP, Brooks scores; Gooden single scores Fitzgerald

B4: Duncan two run HR

T5: Strawberry solo HR

B6: O'Neill solo HR

B7: Raines solo HR

W - Mendoza L - Gooden S - Wetteland

Game Notes:

George Foster left the game in the first inning after sliding into home for the second Mets run of the

game. No word on the extent of the injury, but Foster was able to walk off the field without assistance.

Players of the Game:

Tim Raines 2-3, 2 HR, 2 RBI, BB

Paul O'Neill 2-3, 2B, HR, RBI, 3 R, BB

Pool 3, Round 1

Athletics Score Three In Third, Gamble Pickoff Proves Costly In

3-2 Philadelphia Victory

78pad10asxu1.png

smibs6.png

Ozzie Smith slides into second with a stolen base in the first inning, the first of three stolen bases for

the Padres on the day. After advancing to third on a ground out by Bill Almon, Smith would score on a

sacrifice fly by Gene Richards for an early 1-0 San Diego lead.

lorzs3.png

Bris Lord singles in the third, scoring Jack Barry to tie the game 1-1. Lord, along with Amos Strunk,

would later score on a double by Eddie Collins to put the A's up 3-1.

bendc7.png

Chief Bender settled down quickly after the Padres early 1-0 lead, retiring the next 11 batters before

surrendering a single to Rick Sweet in the top of the fifth. He would leave the game after 5.1 innings,

having struck out 11 while allowing just the one run on four hits.

gamrx9.png

Having led off the ninth with a single, bringing Gene Tenace to the plate with no outs as the tying run,

Oscar Gamble got caught napping by Lefty Russell as he was picked off first base. It would prove to

be a very costly mistake.

tenwp8.pngreyin0.png

(Left) After Gamble was picked off, Gene Tenace hit a solo shot to left field, bringing the Padres to

within one. (Right) Pinch-hitter Don Reynolds would come to the plate as the Padres last hope, but

failed to deliver as a weak grounder to second base sealed San Diego's fate.

Scoring

T1: Richards sacrifice fly scores Smith

B3: Lord single scores Barry; Collins double scores Strunk, Lord

T9: Tenace solo HR

W - Bender L - Perry S - Atkins

Game Notes:

Every San Diego starter struck out at least once in today's game. The three pinch-hitters did not.

Players of the Game:

Chief Bender 5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 11 K

Eddie Collins 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI
