I expect an upset from the Mariners.

Not a bad prediction...

Sorry for the big delay in posting the recap - had to leave after I played the game and I just got back home. Gonna warm up some eats and watch the Conan I TIVO'd. I'll try to get to it after that - if not, I'll do it tomorrow afternoon :D

Detroit/New York Postponed

Six innings were played today between the Tigers and Yankees; but when heavy rains and gusting winds moved in during the top of the seventh, there was no choice but to call the game.

According to Rule 4.12:

Any regulation game called due to weather with the score tied (unless situation outlined in 4.12 (a) (5) (i) prevails) is a tie game and must be replayed in its entirety.

Since the visiting team had not scored in the top of the seventh when the game was called [4.12 (a) (5) (i)], the game has been ruled as such and will be replayed at the earliest possible instance. Stay tuned.

Pool 3, Round 2

Rain Comes Again, But Yanks Paddle Away With 1-0 Victory

For the second straight time, Detroit and New York faced off with ominous clouds overhead, threaten-

ing to burst at any given moment. Today, in some aspect, the baseball gods made a compromise.

In their first matchup, the teams remained tied 1-1 into the seventh inning before an eclectic mix of

drenching precipitation and booming thunder crashed from the heavens, forcing the game to be post-

poned.

Today, the rain would come again, reappearing in the seventh inning; but this time, with the Yankees

up 1-0, the game was official.

Both pitchers were on their game, going back and forth before New York struck in the third for a 1-0

lead. Fidrych allowed just two hits in 6.1 innings while striking out 11. Clemens allowed six hits and

struck out four, but his clutch pitching with runners threatening proved to be the difference.

brouq8.png

Scott Brosius robs Willie Horton of a hit in the second inning.

staaq9.png

Rusty Staub slides into second with a double in the top of the third inning. Staub, and teammate Gary

Sutherland, would be left stranded when Roger Clemens forced Willie Horton to ground out to second

to end the threat.

knotx7.png

Chuck Knoblauch lines a double down the left field line, scoring Scott Brosius for the only run of the

game.

possh9.png

Jorge Posada becomes the eighth strikeout victim for Mark Fidrych, going down with the swinging

variety in the fifth inning.

Scoring

B3: Knoblauch double scores Brosius

W - Clemens L - Fidrych

from second.

benhl5.png

Johnny Bench scores on a Dave Concepcion sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, giving Cincinnati a 2-0

lead.

laudk7.png

Tim Laudner shoots a double down the right field line, scoring Gary Gaetti for the first Twins run of the

game. Laudner would later score on a sacrifice fly by Greg Gagne, capping off a three run Twins inning

Pool 3, Round 2

Berry's Four RBI Day Helps Propel Expos Into Round 3 With 7-2

Victory

29a94exgn2.png

alousv1.png

Moises Alou doubles down the first base line in the first inning. He would later score on a single by

Larry Walker.

groxc2.png

Lefty Grove helps his own cause, singling home Jimmie Dykes in the second inning to give Philadelphia

a 2-1 lead.

groeyu4.png

One single wouldn't cancel out Grove's own performance in the field though, as Lefty gave up seven

runs (five earned) on the day. The two unearned runs would come as a result of his own error, how-

ever. When Mike Lansing hit a dribbler back to Grove, the A's hurler overthrew first baseman Jimmie

Foxx, allowing Lansing to reach second and Marquis Grissom to advance to third.

ber1bst5.png

It would appear that Grove would get out of the inning unscathed as he got Moises Alou to pop out

foul to first and sent Larry Walker back to the dugout with a strikeout. With two outs however, Sean

Berry singled up the middle, scoring both Grissom and Lansing and giving Montreal a 4-2 lead.

berhrgl0.png

For good measure, Sean Berry added two more runs to the Expos total with a home run in the fifth,

giving Montreal a 7-2 lead that they would not relinquish.

Scoring

B1: Walker single scores Alou

T2: Hale single scores Cochrane; Grove single scores Dykes

B2: Fletcher single scores Lansing

B3: Berry single scores Grissom, Lansing

B5: Alou single scores Grissom; Berry two run HR

W - Martinez L - Grove

Players of the Game:

Sean Berry 3-4, HR, 4 RBI

Moises Alou 2-5, 2B, RBI

Well, looks like there's going to be a delay yet again - every time a pitch is put into play in this game it freezes...doesn't matter who the hitter is.

I'm too fed up to try a different park right now, so if I feel like it later, we'll see what happens.

Well, looks like the only way to fix it is to try a reinstall. But I have no idea where the cd case is, and therefore, no idea where the cd key is.

In order for EA to send me a replacement key, EA wants $10 and for me to mail them one of the discs as proof of ownership; so until I decide it's time to go that route, this is dead in the water...
